Oh man, I grew up in San Antonio, Texas (U.S) and these baked treats were a staple of that area. I’d love to see a bake-off contestant make a rockin’ version of this for that show!

I used to live down the street from a Mexican bakery and stopped in all the time for one of those almost every single morning. Man I miss that place.

In south Texas we call the Concha Mollete. I transfered the sugar base to the top of croissants and absolutely love them.

I grew up in southwest Detroit and just about a block or two away was a place called Luna's Bakery. They used to make these same conchas and my mom would send me there to load up on pan dulce. When I go home to Atotonilco el Alto, Jalisco, there is a bakery just a few yards away from my hotel, Hotel Casa Rubio, and the scents that waft out of that place are absolutely exquisite.

I’ve made Cinnamon Conchas several times. They are so good! I need to find a nifty concha cutter like that though.

I loved how you took the time to research and taste some of our food. I think it would take months to learn more about it. Next time I recommend you try the rosca de reyes (my favorite) and that is very linked to the tradition of eating tamales on February 2nd. And the pan de muerto (which has its varieties), as well as the typical food of the northeast, here in Nuevo Leon.

Nice to see you in Mexico. I hope you tried also Campechanas, Cocoles, Rosca de Reyes, Pan de Muerto, Hoajaldras de Maiz con mole, etc. A lot of unique Pan Dulce in Mexico not only conchas.

Man if only you'd remembered that Conchas are traditionally eaten alongside hot chocolate when you complained they were too dry on GBBO, the episode would've been slightly less embarrassing.

Though Rosetta is great, it is more like a french bakery or something like that. You gotta go to a real local panaderia (bakery) so you can try the real pan dulce.

Both breads were created seperate from each other and neither date of the bread's creation is clear. However, there were both influenced by the Europeans when it came to the creation.
