It pains me to write this comment, but I’m afraid this is how things go in PFS. I was an instructor in PFS for many years and have watched many people who were put into leadership positions come and go. In just the last few years I have seen talented people like Roy Harris, Bob Giambrone, Monty Hendrix, Harinder Singh, Darrell Thompson, Bruce Corrigan, Pedro Rodriguez, etc. all get be subjected to the kind of behavior that is exhibited in this video. Initially all of them really tried to help Vu, but in time he would find (or create) something to hold against them and eventually run them off. I hate writing anything about this because I really loved the training I did with Vu back in the day. He was always very kind to me and my family, however, I watched him become paranoid and react in very strange ways toward others. I came to discover that he has a real Jekyll and Hyde aspect to his personality. In the early 90s, PFS had some really amazing practitioners and teachers. While many other JKD practitioners were busy doing the seminars circuit and writing down excessive notes about different forms of Silat, the PFS guys were full contact sparring and introducing hardcore grappling to their students. In time things naturally change, but things seemed to dramatically change every 5 - 10 years in PFS. All would be going great in the organization, but the process would begin with Vu would start ranting about how someone was ripping him off and call up all his guys to go after the alleged ‘offending party.’ After things cooled down, the process would start over with Vu letting everyone know that he was revamping the company and rolling out some new ‘cutting edge’ programs, which was really the same material rebranded (Vu is a genius at rebranding and reinvention). It appears that the older Vu gets, the 5 - 10-year time frame is shortening to one year. In his prime, Vu was one of the best martial arts teachers I have ever met. His physical skills were amazing and his ability to quickly impart that knowledge to others was incredible. What I learned in PFS still forms the core of what I do in the martial arts. I really miss my old friends and the feeling of camaraderie that I briefly experienced there in PFS. Many of the senior PFS people have moved on to do their own thing or have just disappeared. I miss the feeling of family that there used to be in PFS and I hate what has become of the organization. I have even heard that even Vu’s longest student and partner, Tom Cruse, has also left the organization he co-founded and moved back to Ohio. I do hope Vu gets some help because I really do feel he is suffering with some serious mental health issues. He has much to offer others if his demons do not continue to dominate him.
@@zibtihaj3213 I can't say whether the erratic behavior was specifically due to his past drug use. He may also have TBI issues from some of the fights he has been in. He once told me that he ended up in the ICU after a bad fight he had in Virginia Beach. I sincerely hope he gets the help he needs.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. This proves why I am posting this audio recording of VU. He had victimized many people, including me. But with Jon, he cross the line because Jon is not scared of him. This is the first time people shows who Vunak really is. with all of the harassment and verbal abuse, clearly he is not a person to gain respect as a teacher, Sifu or descendant of Bruce Lee. Unfortunately he still gets Idiot followers that thinks this kind of behavior is acceptable. I still have many recording from former partners and student, even recent messages. I received many direct messages regarding how Vu harass, and took advantage of them. He is lay lowing, and I will wait.
Years ago in the 90’, one of the European Top Instructors of PFS was in US and felt really sick, Vunak insisted to bring him to the hospital and when the time to pay the bill arrived, well, Vunak paid the bill for that Instructor; perhaps how the kindness of heart relate strictly to be a street fighter??? How could someone say to a single man:” I got wife and kids and you got only your dogs! did you… your dogs???” And how could someone talk like this to any instructor no matter which subject teach??? Note: I’m not related to PFS or Jeet Kune Do in any way, I just dropped here. its a sad ending,,,to Paul Vunak,,,when all his early tution videos showed the World his enthusiasum,,and passion for JKD,,etc...sorry Holger Thomas for your experience,,,a sad ending to a well known JKD .Progresssive System Instructor...now its all about money and survival in a trailer park....really sad and pathetic...great video for future potential students...give up going to Paul Vunak,,just train yourself...find a current local Coach..
Vunak is NOT a Sifu. He depicts the meaning of a teacher. He is an Addict and mentally ill. You yahoos only knows him on his videos or seminars. when you get close to him he will take advantage of you. He has many enemies, believe it or not he is Done.
I can understand, specially if all your interactions with him his Videos, may be a few seminars. But once you know him and be more attached you will know.
It's sad, because it is a good system. but very hard to find a good teacher the good ones get out of the organization and the others try to imitate him.

Heard a similar story several years back from someone that went over there to train it was Tom cruse doing the teaching and vunak just popped in for a minutes.
It’s no longer a story. People are slowly coming out. I have so many message about their experiences, how Vunak got Mad because of a suggestion.. I ask them to forward me any recording. People need to know.
@@pfsmasterpaul7289 2011 I contacted paul. He eventually called me back. He agreed to have me come train. I asked for his email and he said he didn't know how to use a computer at all. Seriously? Anyway I got my airline ticket. Called him to let him know. He called back 6am. Woke me up and we talked briefly. I forgot to ask for his address. So I called him the next day, left a message on his voicemail. He didn't respond. I got an airline ticket for nothing.
UPDATE: Recent Webinar by Vunak. Did not go well. It is viewed via Zoom, why in the world people still used zoom specially for some thing paid webinar. It only shows Vunak is not smart and probably hiring his students again that are not smart and have no business or technology knowledge and you know how will that end - Harassment and Threats. You dont even know the story. This person Vunak left a message was a new student, new in martial arts, and came to see for his one on one training. Vunak is that kind of a person, one side nice but turn around he is worsts than the devil.

A REAL SHIFU according to Chinese way… he has to be knowledgeable in healing arts like TCM/Accupuncture/Tui Na-Anmo.. along with the Martial Aspects. Anyone who doesn’t know the full qualifications are called COACH!
The first one: with paul. The sifu, master, sensei thing is part of the student-teacher dynamic in traditional martial arts. Its about more than respect, its part of discipline and, in my experience, necessary. For the same reason in the military you adress an officer by rank or sir or ma'am. Also if they called angrily or aggressively complaining, expect the same tone back. It would be good to gear what the website complainers call actually sounded like. The 2nd guy: with the customer on that. Sounds like vanuk needs a business manager with task-master skills, and in the meanwhile a gamble to take the class. Bait-and-switch never cool, wether martial arts or paying for a PhD professor at college and being taught by his/her T.A. who's a 1st year master's student.

@apostlestevenl.williams5384 I was there when he charged a guy one thousand eight hundred dollars for two days of training. Plus the guy had to pay for a hotel and food and his flight from the east coast.
Part of me wants to be mad people for falling for this stuff but the other half of me just feels bad. If you can’t find a good friendly mma gym, try to do wrestling and boxing classes. Please people stay away from these gurus and sifus and mcdojos.

That is so sad. Vu has destroyed so many good things in his life. I think there are just a handful of people left in PFS who are trying to help him. It seems that every time someone tries to help Vu he turns on them in the end. PFS could have been something truly special, but at this point it seems like it is destined for disintegration. Too bad.
