Training is a key part in building great self defense. In this video Paul Vunak shows us two of his Energy Drills used against both an unarmed and an armed attacker. The first of these drills is the Chi Sao Drill, this teaches you how to feel the energy or pressure of an attackers punches and kicks. The second drill is the Knife Sensitivity Drill, this drill deals with a knife welding attacker and teaches you to how to keep the blade away from your body and face.

Paul perfectly demonstrates why "sticky hands" is crucial for training. It's also one hell of a great workout for upper body strength. Try it for 20 solid minutes with your sparring partner and get worn out.

One thing I’ve noticed about knife drills is that there’s more emphasis on the stabbing motion on the right and left sides then there is on the slashing disemboweling motion underneath which slashes the stomach the kidney the intestines and the liver. More emphasis should be put on defending that area than simply “Slicing the air”

Paul's methods are the best. You hope you never need them--Paul always reminds us that fighting is the last resort. But the confidence is there from his teacings.

Dude your gonna get your ass kicked if you try to do this. Just try to neutralize the attacker by getting him on the ground and putting him out. Learning jiu jitsu and just lock your attacker in a position until help gets there. It’s very useful I recommend it instead of this crap that will get you killed

@@anthonyakauola9014 Your ignorance shows. Sticky hands is a sensitivity drill, it's not to simulate a fight. JU Jitsu is not all that. Honestly the reason so many fights go to the ground is because most fighters are NOT that good at striking & footwork. Ju jistsu is a last resort for not so skillful fighters

@@anthonyakauola9014 there's a difference between survival mindset and sport mindset what if the attacker is bigger and stronger than you no matter how hard you try he will out wrestle you Plus if you go to the ground you are vulnerable to attacks from his friends if it's a multiple attackers scenario street fights should be ended in seconds clearly you've never been in a street fight in your life

@@italianstallion890 that’s just not true if you are an experienced grappler the average person has almost no chance. Myself being 6’2 I can safely say I can handle myself in most situations. And yes I’ve had a homeless drugged out dude attack me who was almost the same size as me and I held him in mounted position until the cops came. If I tried this bullshit he probably would’ve hurt me. I know jiu jitsu isn’t gonna automatically save your life but it can be the difference between life and death. Way more effective than the bullshit in this video.

@@anthonyakauola9014 what Paul vunak is demonstrating in the video above is just training drills you should check his other videos and do some research about him this guy trained seal team 6 he's a respected martial artist all around the world do your research before commenting and by the way I'm not saying jiujitsu is bad but I would like to see you using it against multiple attackers 😆

I doubt knife attacks are side angled like that. Most likely centerline like in Pyscho or the attacker is aiming for the belly & chest area.

True, but these excercises are just to teach the theory & principles of knife defense as well as to better condition you for redirection & manipulating momentum. Very cool to see a lady interested in self defense.

When she defends the knife, watch, you see a slight gap in time. He resets the blade, she sets up for the next block. I'd like to suggest a quick upper cut by her while part of her pivot. I think she could sneak in a shot, and the attacker caught off guard. Just an idea
@deafsmith1006
@deafsmith1006 Год назад
Just do a fake. Slight throw of the shoulder will make 'em think you are going to do a certain knife attack but instead you do another. Very hard to defend against as the more expert you become the more susceptible to fakes you become!
@jasonrudolph491
@jasonrudolph491 Год назад
@@deafsmith1006 That’s why this is a simply sensitivity drill. Paul Vunak says one must defang the snake (before) entering into trapping range. To try to go empty hand against a knife otherwise is pure fantasy. 😎
@TheSubwaysurfer
@TheSubwaysurfer Год назад
Paul Can fight no doubt about it. But it takes years to develop the level of sensitivity-in chi sao to make it something functional that you can put to use. Also it’s kinda strange the way he leans into each drill like he’s leading with his face. Maybe he can make this work but the average guy is gonna develop one hell of a bad habit trying to imitate him

what happens if the opponent steps away and they are no longer close enough to be felt
@kempofury

It would depend on the situation of course, but space equals escape so that would be your chance to run. If you are like me and can't physically run or the situation doest allow you to do so you would step towards the attacker to maintain control of the weapon. If the attacker continually retreats it's a potential sign of intimidation so that may help with the psychological aspect of the engagement.

If the principal of sensitivity is conveyed that is the point. There has to be a reason why Bruce Lee dumped a lot of Wing Chung- probably due limitations for the street so if the energy drill isn’t perfect but the principal is conveyed that’s a win. 😎

Yea, this is not advanced training. This is more beginning drill training, it displays the obvious facts of a real knife fight. In other words this here would not be the end product. Made you look, made you think. Now, Get ready for real. I have a few suggestions, but I'm sure Paul already knows. Always remember " ". Click, Paul made money. LOL.
