I completely agree Erik. I adore Vinnie’s first 2-3 albums. I grew up on those and they aspired me to start playing guitar way back in the 80’s. Then Vinnie began becoming more blues based I guess you could say and of course he began playing with UFO and he’s never really returned to his initial style. I will always love Vinnie but for me he never recaptured those early years of his playing and line you said, I would have loved if he would have gone more of the cyber shred style guitar like Paul. But at least we have Paul now! In many ways I feel like Paul even exceeds Vinnie. So glad we found Paul!

@@LifeHawkeye Blues is where advanced musicians goes to die. The same thing happened to Joe Satriani - first two albums were genius, and technical, then came blues, and it all died.

@@andoletube I couldn’t agree more. Same with Paul Gilbert. Hey I’ll always appreciate those players and I’m forever grateful for their part in creating pieces of my musical history, but the stuff they do now just doesn’t really interest me as much. I did see Satriani in concert with the G3 tour back in 2018 when Petrucci was with him. Gotta say Satriani impressed me more than I thought he would that night. Dude can play for sure, but it was most of his Surfing With the Alien and Flying In A Blue Dream songs that were highlights. I was always ostracized by my old band for not playing the blues enough and it really ate at me when they’d say that. Here I was winning guitar competitions, our band was winning battle of the band contests with music I wrote, our songs that I wrote had radio play and an NBA team even bought one of our songs that I wrote….yet…they would make fun of me for not wanting to utilize the blues 90% of the time lol. I have nothing against the blues per se. It’s a valid form of musical expression. But as I’d explain it to them…it’s not in my blood. I sprinkle pentatonic patterns into my playing and solos when I want them there but I never ever wanted to be a Buddy Guy, George Benson, Stevie Ray Vaughn type of player. It’s not who I am. I appreciate your comment though and wholeheartedly agree my friend. Stay metal!
