Lessons from the life of Leonard Ravenhill. Paul Washer comments on street preaching and how to preach the Gospel in street Evangelism. May God speak, all other voices be put to the side.
Luke 9:51-56
51 And it came to pass, when the time was come that He should be received up, He stedfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem,
52 And sent messengers before His face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for Him.
53 And they did not receive Him, because His face was as though He would go to Jerusalem.
54 And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt Thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did?
55 But He turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of.
56 For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. And they went to another village.
King James Version

“No man is greater than his prayer life. The pastor who is not praying is playing; the people who are not praying are straying. We have many organizers, but few agonizers; many players and payers, few pray-ers; many singers, few clingers; lots of pastors, few wrestlers; many fears, few tears; much fashion, little passion; many interferers, few intercessors; many writers, but few fighters. Failing here, we fail everywhere.”

I don't boast in this but know that if I yelled at them, they wouldn't listen to the Gospel Message. I know by the Spirit, when to engage and when to back off. Paul Washer is a Calvinist and a heretic and Leonard Ravenhill was against that doctrine of OSAS. A big difference between the two. “He was despised and rejected- a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way. He was despised, and we did not care. Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins! But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all. He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet he never said a word. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth. Unjustly condemned, he was led away. No one cared that he died without descendants, that his life was cut short in midstream. But he was struck down for the rebellion of my people. He had done no wrong and had never deceived anyone. But he was buried like a criminal; he was put in a rich man’s grave. But it was the Lord’s good plan to crush him and cause him grief. Yet when his life is made an offering for sin, he will have many descendants. He will enjoy a long life, and the Lord’s good plan will prosper in his hands. When he sees all that is accomplished by his anguish, he will be satisfied. And because of his experience, my righteous servant will make it possible for many to be counted righteous, for he will bear all their sins. I will give him the honors of a victorious soldier, because he exposed himself to death. He was counted among the rebels. He bore the sins of many and interceded for rebels.” ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭53:3-12‬ ‭NLT‬‬ "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16 God loves you so much and showed that by sending His Son to die for us so that we may inherit eternal life. We deserve hell but He gave us heaven through faith in Jesus. He took the punishment we deserved and by putting our faith in Him we can be saved. True word, but becareful that you do not look at all street preachers in this light. Some of these men cries at night in the morning hours to Jesus to help them to preach. Hear how Jesus preached to the leaders of that day. As much as my soul loves Paul Washer, I feel his made a err here to a certain extend, just as we all can, but He the Lord help us. Brother Ravenhill was not the standard, but Jesus through His Spirit is. Do not judge these men family of God in Christ who loves souls, pray for them so the Lord perfect them, not according to Ravenhill standards, but according to Christ standards. God bless and I thank you Lord to have a brother like Paul Washer who loves truth and righteousness. Lord may You multiply Grace, Peace and Truth in our dear brother Paul. Yes, there are some preachers who can be very aggressive and rude in their street preaching and when they get some heat back from a by passers, they say it is a persecution for the sake of Jesus. Not good. I believe you have to have a special anointing to be able to do that work, to street preach, people like pastor David Lynn has it, many others, do not.

I appreciate the pastoral nature of these comments on loving the flock. I have wondered though, that Yeshua, our Savior, will destroy with a Word when He returns. Obviously He is still pouring out mercy by waiting a bit longer, but finally, He will come with a sword. Also His Two witnesses are recorded to actually call fire from heaven. So the wisdom of Christ on this topic is more about timing than it is about tactics. Peter's epistle also reminds us that we are not to suffer because of unrighteousness. No one should be arrogant about preaching. It is the same spirit as lucifer who was proud of his 'worship' so much that he decided he was worthy of glory. Our worship whether breaking bread in word or song is not about us.

Good points. Jonah cried out 30 days and Nineveh will be destroyed. So contrary to what a lot of the comments in this comment section or saying, you don’t have to whip your way down the street to preach the truth. Now of course it is better for the individual preacher if they mourn over the people they are preaching to you. The fact of the matter is that God‘s word needs to go forth. Cities and families and nations ARE and WILL BE destroyed for disobeying God. And they need to be told that in any tone that you want. When everyone is bemoaning ‘tone’ these days I think the real problem is they no longer ACTUALLY BELIEVE God and his word. They don’t truly believe that people are in danger. They would rather criticize the men God is using than amen them and criticize the sin they are crying out against.

Having seen, literally, thousands come to Christ during the “Jesus Movement” of the early 70’s through mostly street evangelism, I can tell that the problem with today’s young and genuine street preachers is, primarily, that they do not know what they are doing. They mean well but they are locked into a “religious” mindset that is not as much faith as it is superstition. They do not have wisdom but they do have sincerity. They usually are coming from a misreading and a misinterpretation of Isaiah 55:10-11 and think that all they have to do is quote Scripture and the Holy Spirit will descend on the hearers and convict them. It doesn’t work that way and largely their preaching ends up being harsh, alienating, impersonal and counterproductive. They do more harm than good. The key to good evangelism, on any level or iteration is “make many understand” ( The Book of Daniel). Remember the book-end examples of right and wrong evangelism in Matt 13’s Sower and the Seed. The seed that fell along the path “did not understand it” and the seed the bore fruit “indeed understands”. If you can’t deliver the Gospel message without using Christianese (meaning - language that only a believer understands) then you probably shouldn’t be out there doing it because God hasn’t sent it. You’re preaching in your own strength. Go back and learn the first principles yourself first before you deign to tell others. Learn to be able to show them how their own reality reflects what the Gospel says about us first. And the ratio of how often we use the word “you” as opposed to “us” or “we” will be a good indicator if you are being compassionate or arrogant.

@@CSUnger i wasn’t the one throwing stones at preachers who actually go and reach the lost with the gospel. How people respond is up to them. Jesus lived 30 years as a regular church going ‘good person’. It wasn’t until he started street preaching truth that in 3 1/3 years people became so angry they killed him. Paul was a street preacher Peter was a street preacher Elijah was a river 😅 preacher It doesn’t take much self-sacrifice or courage to sidle up to someone who is dammed and headed to hell and tickle sweet nothings into their ears. We need more boldness to speak the truth, more self-discipline and seriousness to get on our knees and weep before a Holy God for lost souls, and last but not least, less critics who do neither.

Paul washer preaches a works based gospel. Salvation is by faith in the blood of Christ and nothing else
@gospelrap11
@gospelrap11 2 года назад
You are correct that salvation is by faith in the blood of Christ, and nothing else. But does Paul Washer teach differently from the apostles? These say that faith in Christ transforms a person's heart supernaturally, and the character of their life turns from obedience to the evil one to obedience to God. Such a person has both the will and power as a Christian to increase in holiness, gradually giving up the character of sin and seeing it replaced by the character of godliness through the Holy Spirit. Indeed, if they do not after some time display such a change in their lifestyle and walk in the light, this is given as proof both by Jesus and the biblical writers who followed him that they never did put faith in him. Instead, such a person is still walking in darkness and has yet to repent. That is not the message of salvation *created* by works, which is false. It is the message of salvation *demonstrated* by a changed life, which will include the works of obedience to our Lord Jesus.

No he said diver him unto Satan for the destruction of his flesh SO THE SOUL WILL BE SAVED. If you sin, you will face consequences here on earth, but your salvation is locked in the second you put your faith in the finished work of Christ. Salvation is a Gift from God and you cannot work for a gift. Christ fulfilled the law on our behalf. It isn’t 90% Christ 10% us, it is all Christ. @@thesaint9276 Have you considered that being delivered to Satan for the destruction of one's flesh (to the end that their soul is saved) means letting them face the world until they are driven to repentance? Read the syntax of that verse; it does not say "deliver him... but his soul is already saved." It says "...so that his soul will be saved." So, does Paul say he wasn't saved? Yes. The man who is committing evils even beyond what non-Christians would tolerate is demonstrating his lack of conversion; he is not a toxic and worldly Christian who needs to be quarantined from the rest of the church (because no such Christian exists.) If he were converted he would not do these things without repentance-- every person is accurately known by their fruit. His fruit is shameless evildoing. That is also the state of his soul. You are correct that you do not work for the gift of salvation. Yet it is impossible to ignore the behaviors that a person will show if they have received the gift, according to Jesus and all the apostles. If a person has salvation, they will be given a new heart to replace the old one (Ezek 36:26, 2 Cor 5:17). They will have their evil ways taken away from them (not every individual act of evil, but the trend and nature of willing sinfulness), see Acts 3:26. And they will do good works, not to earn their salvation, but again as proof that they have their salvation. (Eph 2:8-10) Indeed, they were saved specifically so that they may live according to the will of God and the works He prepared for them. A person who does not have new desires, sorrow for sins, and a disposition toward obeying God is not a fleshly believer; they are an unbeliever or a very new believer whose ways will soon change for the better. (And the works of a believer are NOT the filthy rags of the unbeliever. Paul esteemed his worldly qualifications as rubbish because they did not qualify him for heaven. He was NOT referring to the work which God set out for him to do as a believer; that would be saying that God's will is worthless and filthy, which is not only wrong but the talk of an antichrist.)

@G1stGBless

Probably because young preachers are studying their Bibles and praying more where many older preachers rely on “their experience” and are eyeing the offering plate. The OT is filled with Gods fury on sin. And so is Revelation. We are in a period of grace. People need to understand exactly that. TODAY is the day of salvation. Harden not your heart because of Gods mercy. While his steadfast love endures forever his mercy will come to an end. Ask Pharaoh. All men everywhere are commanded to repent. Ravenhill said it best, “I’m not preaching an option to men, Im preaching an ultimatum.”
@Blessedhope83

@@G1stGBless The love of money has affected both young and old preachers alike. I agree completely with you we preach an ultimatum that this world is left to choose. When I was a younger man my complete style was just hell fire in Fork and lightning and during Bible college doctor McAbee told me that I was too intimidating I needed to pray and ask God for tears. Much of what I see now especially with people who are overly boisterous I believe it’s just semantics it is a different story when you get a loan with God and beg God to break your heart over sinners. And Leonard Ravenhill wrote one of the best books on prayer apart from the Bible that has ever been written.

So typical. P. Washer says you can't be a street preacher unless you agonize, weep and wail over the souls you are preaching to [and when he says that he's letting you know, boasting, while beating his chest, that is what he does]. All these other preachers he has judged just aren't good enough. How does he know this? Well, because he is P. Washer and just knows. But what does the Bible say? I give you the woman at the well in John 4. A woman with 5 husbands who Jesus sought out and after a short conversation with him, became an instant street evangelist. And all she told the town was "Come see a man who told me all things about myself" and the whole town came out to meet Jesus. But according to P. Washer, she just wouldn't be good enough. I'll put my trust in the Bible's example over P. Washers any day. And as for Leonard Ravenhill, he was a legalistic angry nutcase.

I understand what you mean my brother, Ravenhill spent half of his life in street meetings and I think brother Washer is testifying to what he sees in the rise of young preachers preaching not out of love. He is attempting to make the point to warn others and it is edifying, however I agree with your point relating to John 4. Also: there is no requirement to evangelize except to be called from God, sent from God and anointed by God.
@jellytoast12
@jellytoast12 2 года назад
@@ChristsDisciples I would also bring up Jonah. A man who hated the people God sent him to, yet the whole city repented. What Washer does is point you back to yourself in such a way as giving glory to man. It's not about the message, he is saying. It's about the man who gives it. The Gospel does not need a person who is "super anointed through fasting, wailing and prayer." The Gospel is itself anointed. God could use a donkey if he wanted to, as he did with Balaam or even rocks as he warned about in Luke 19:40. People have been saved by picking up the scriptures for themselves with no preacher at all. Sure, we don't want drunks out witnessing on the street. Yet at the same time, God can use a 90 year old school teacher who only has a heart for the people as easily as he could a man such as Jonah. The glory goes to the Gospel. Not the man because of "how hard he prayed and fasted and cried out for the people." That is just plain boasting in man.

What is the gospel?
@colonalklink14
@colonalklink14 2 года назад
@@bryanlovesjesus2204 The purpose of this life is to love God and love your neighbor as yourself. This sums up the law and the prophets. God is love, and just at the same time. He is absolutely Holy and cannot have sin in His presence. God loves us but hates our sin because it seperates us from Him. For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. The wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. All our righteousness is as filthy rags before God. Jesus has always existed and was never a created being. His name means Jehovah saviour or Yahweh saves. In Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. He had a physical birth two thousand years ago of a Virgin and of the Holy Spirit, thereby Jesus did not inherit the sin nature of Adam. Jesus lived a perfectly sinless life, was crucified, shed His innocent blood, physically died, was buried, and physically rose again from the dead, thereby Jesus paid for all the sins of all the world at the cross (past, present, and future). That payment is put to your account when you have believed on Christ alone for salvation. This means that saving repentance is realizing that you are a sinner deserving of God's just punishment in Hell and turn (repent) from whatever you trusted in before, if indeed you trusted in anything; to trusting in the person and finished work of Christ alone for salvation. God immediately declares you justified and gives you everlasting life as a free gift. Salvation is absolutely free, instant, and eternal, recieved solely by trusting in the person and finished work of Christ alone, and is certainly not conditional upon service to God. Service (discipleship) if you choose it can cost you everything if you go all out in serving God. Our good works, repenting of sins, and obedience, are for temporal fellowship with God here on earth and for rewards in Heaven or a lack thereof and have absolutely nothing to do with salvation at all. The only reason anyone will ever be in Heaven is solely by the perfect life, shed blood, death, burial, and resurrection, of Jesus Christ alone. Anything added or subtracted from this is another gospel. False teachers such as Paul Washer, redefine faith as obedience and belief as total commitment. Let's help them with the Biblical definition of faith. Faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen. They say stupid double talking stuff, like," faith alone saves but saving faith is never alone". Anyway 😜. Let's review: What must I do to be saved? Make a commitment? Promise to follow Jesus? Actually follow Jesus? Surrender my will? Pick up my cross daily? Make Jesus Lord and Master of my life? Repent of my sins? Give my life to Christ? Etc??? No!!!, those are works of service and have absolutely nothing to do with salvation at all. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 16: 31... believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved. That means to put all of your confidence (trust) in the person and finished work of Christ alone for salvation.

@@colonalklink14 You claim that Paul is claiming salvation by works, but he consistently denies and opposes that idea. Washer, like all the faithful, knows and proclaims that we are saved only by faith in God, and that while we are held responsible for it, that faith is also provided and increased by God. It is also true that "enduring and progressive conformity to God's commands is one of the great indicators of true conversion." See 1 John, 1 Peter, and James, as well as Jesus's teaching on the fig tree growing figs and the thorn tree growing thorns. Nobody uses works to become saved-- but when they are saved, it will be evident by the work of God in their life, who conforms them by his instruction to his own image.

Hello. I am an atheist. I define atheism as suspending acknowledgement of the existence of gods until sufficient evidence can be presented. My position is that *_I have no good reason to acknowledge the existence of gods._* And here is the evidence as to why I currently hold to such a position. Below are 10 facts I must consider when evaluating the claim made by theists that a god exists. To be clear, these are not premises for an argument concluding there to be no gods. These are simply facts I take into account when evaluating the claim. 1. I personally have never observed a god. 2. I have never encountered a person whom has claimed to have observed a god. 3. I know of no accounts of persons claiming to have observed a god that were willing or able to demonstrate or verify their observation for authenticity, accuracy, or validity. 4. I have never been presented a valid logical argument which also employed sound premises that lead deductively to a conclusion that a god(s) exists. 5. Of the 46 logical syllogisms I have encountered arguing for the existence of a god(s), I have found all to contain either fallacies or false or unsubstantiated premises. 6. I have never observed a phenomenon in which the existence of a god was a necessary antecedent for the known or probable explanation for the causation of that phenomenon. 7. Several proposed (and generally accepted) explanations for observable phenomena that were previously based on the agency of a god(s), have subsequently been replaced with rational, natural explanations, each substantiated with evidence that excluded the agency of a god(s). I have never encountered _vice versa._ 8. I have never experienced the presence of a god through intercession of angels, divine revelation, the miraculous act of divinity, or any occurrence of a supernatural event. 9. Every phenomena that I have ever observed has *_emerged_* from necessary and sufficient antecedents over time without exception. In other words, I have never observed a phenomenon (entity, process, object, event, process, substance, system, or being) that was created _ex nihilo_ - that is instantaneously came into existence by the solitary volition of a deity. 10. All claims of a supernatural or divine nature that I have encountered have either been refuted to my satisfaction, or do not present as falsifiable. ALL of these facts lead me to the only rational conclusion that concurs with the realities I have been presented - and that is the fact that there is *_no good reason_* for me to acknowledge the existence of a god. I have heard often that atheism is the denial of the Abrahamic god. But denial is the active rejection of a substantiated fact once credible evidence has been presented. Atheism is simply withholding such acknowledgement until sufficient credible evidence is introduced. *_It is natural, rational, and prudent to be skeptical of unsubstatiated claims, especially extraordinary ones._* I welcome any cordial response. Peace.

With proof there is no faith, it becomes a sure thing. Also, GOD will not force you to love him, if he did you would just be a pre-programmed robot, this is why we have free will. With faith that GOD exists and free will to accept HIS free gift of salvation (through the death and resurrection of JESUS)you would truly be able to understand what “Love” actually is. Otherwise one could only conclude (scientifically) that it was a random chemical reaction in your brain.

@@theoskeptomai2535 , not that good at philosophical stuff, but I am sure there are. The difference is that there is significant objective historical documentation for the life, death and resurrection of JESUS. No other person or subject has so much written of them in history. One would have to concede that it was true or the most epic delusion imaginable. There are no parallels in recorded history. If you play the odds (not suggested) one would have to be willfully ignorant to deny the evidence.

The gospel is simple. Jesus Christ, who is God in human form, died on the cross for the sins of every person. He was buried and rose again three days later. Eternal life is a free gift. it’s received, by faith (trust) in Christ alone. it’s not earned. Jesus said in John 6:47, Truly, truly, I say to you, he that believes (trusts) in me has everlasting life. Once saved, always saved. Salvation can never be lost! Trust Jesus alone and forever live

Those who believe in me will be resurrected? We go to romans too: Those who are called are also already glorified. Saying Jesus won't let anyone steal you out of your habd but yourself can, is an interpretation, that has no backing of scripture, or would you say that sin can separate us from the GOD who justified us? Also saying you can lose your salvation is contrary to 1 Peter 1. GOD with his might keeps us, through the faith, Is my will stronger than GODs might or is my sin stronger than GODs might , is satan stronger than GODs might. The last thing that an unsafe salvation is absolutely contrary to is the teaching of the new birth. You are literally a new person born of GOD, you can't undo your birth why should you be able do undo your spiritual birth. The holy spirit changes you: No one that has the holy spirit, can say Jesus is cursed. Would you say we can lose the spirit? Well the bible tells us that we are sealed with the holy spirit for the day of salvation. If The government puts a seal on something you can't legal just take it off, the government has to do it. So Christ takes the seal away from you at some point? Question your heart, pray to the LORD, and you will be able to have peace in the glory of GOD and your ETERNAL life (something that can be lost is not eternal at all). GOD may bless you.

John Piper, this was your prayer for Donald Trump on Jan 20, 2017: "Until that day Lord, in your wonderful providence, “The king's heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; he turns it wherever he will” (Proverbs 21:1). So, guard him from folly. Guard him from stupid decisions that would damage people, damage America, damage the church. Guard him. Superintend him and the congress in such a way that, beyond their explanation, things turn in a direction that makes for the kind of good that, even though it may not have faith in it, would have the form of faith in justice and love." Thank you, John, for praying this for Donald Trump. The Lord Jesus answered your prayer, and brought us 4 years of brilliant leadership (not perfect, mind you) that the church is still reaping the benefits of (does Jun 25th ring a bell?). Tell me, John: have you ever thanked God for answering your prayer?
