FYI Evans has form with dissing Weller dating back to a while after Stanley Road. Evans on Radio One at the time said he'd never play Paul's music again on his show apart from Broken Stones. No doubt that's why Paul picked that song to play in this set, saying that this is specially for you Chris (i.e. you "rodney plonker").
It's a bit sad to hear the loss of vocal range. He was QUITE the soul singer (something I don't think he gets enough credit for ). If you were a white boy and wanted to sing CREDIBLE soul music, you couldn't model yourself better than after Weller. I wish he'd duet with Lisa Stansfield, they're both managing a major loss of vocal range with such skill and professionalism.
Weller asks him "what would you like us to play Chris?" But being a celebrity dj he hasnt got a clue about music and cant think of a song. Hes hopeless, what do people see in his forced fake delivery.
hopeless. I'm amazed at how many people don't GET this album's concept. careers in pop music journalism do NOT guarantee brains or critical skills or even populist sensibility.
