While Kim and I were in Hawai'i for the first time ever, we got to crew & spectate the HURT 100 ( • THE 2016 HURT 100 | Th... ). The following day, we wanted to venture out and take in some of the course. This is a short 7 mile section of the 20 mile HURT loop starting from the Manoa Cliffs trail.
Thank you to Patreon Supporter, Darin Burris, for the awesome GoPro Session! I wanted to make sure I fooled around with the camera while I was in Hawaii. I appologize for the shakier footage as I do not have a gimbal for the Session yet, but I like the waterproof with audio package the Session provides. I'll be using it more for sure!

I am from Hawaii and actually went to school in Manoa (but wasn't a runner back then)... and I feel such regret not having explored this trail! Thank you for posting... It's on my list when I go back to visit home

tip for bug repellant - take an anti-histamine tablet about 30mins before your run/hike .. so you are loaded with anti-bug smell from your pores .. no cream required :) The effect lasts about 4-5 hours.

Love all your films Ethan. I've been working on some myself lately and doing a lot of research on colour correction grading and am now noticing that in your films. I love the look of your films, especially this one, gives it that "vibe" which is so important!!!

oh wow this is my favorite set of trails! the roots aren't as bad as it looks. I was more afraid of a misstep on manoa cliff more than anything!

+TheGingerRunner The video was a bit pixelated... not as crisp.. is it the filter or the camera please check.. (Saw it at 1080p max res. .. I think its the filter used..)

+TheGingerRunner I'd love to see a video of the equipment you use for filming. I'm interested in trying to make a few vlog-style videos of my ultra training (and the run itself) and there doesn't seem to be a whole ton out there on how to actually make these sorts of videos.

Ronak Pol it is the camera. It does not shoot well in low-light (most of this was in darker jungle). Gopro footage is ALWAYS pixelated in the RU-vid transcoding process.

Did you see any spiders on that trail? I watched another Hawaii trail video once and it looked like there were tons of them (plus the Brady Bunch...). Just curious if they're all over Hawaii. I'm in Hong Kong where they are everywhere which is why I run roads. Beautiful video and trail.

do you have any idea of gimbal that works with the Session? I´ve been using it a lot as it is very small and practical, but a gimbal might improve the shots. tks!

So I signed up for my first half marathon this may. The farthest I've run is 6 miles. I've been trying super hard to run 7 miles....but for some reason I can't do it. I can run 1 or 2 or 3 miles no problem...but i get so bored being on the treadmill for over an hr. I prefer not to run outside cauz I don't have a running buddy and I don't feel safe running alone as a female in my neighborhood. does anyone have any suggestions?? my race is this may. thank youu.
