On August 29th 2015, I will attempt my firts 100 mile race. A number of weeks before the race, I had a chance to scout one of the tougher, shorter sections of the course. Needless to say, The Trail From Hell lived up to its name (and to think they refer to it as The Trail From Heck now seeing as many trees have been removed and the trail is easier to follow!)

Aww, it doesn't look that bad. Don't psych yourself out before the race even starts. Go into it with an open mind. By mile 68 you will be thankful that you're on a trail that will force you to go slow. Best of luck this weekend!!

You will be fineeee Ethan... unless you're not which is totally normal for running 3.8 times the length of a regular marathon. 100 miles on technical trails is ridiculous dude. Just remember, slow is smooth and smooth is fast and never trust a fart past mile 20.

Ha! looks like finally you are going to hit serious rugged terrain and elevation. Haven't seen so much rugged trail in your videos. Happy for you man. Keep it positive man, I hear over and over many jokeful negative remarks on the challenge to come. A 100 miler is almost all mental brother, can't afford negativity you aren't even running and hiking yet. Have fun, enjoy it, stay away from drama stay positive and optimistic at all times. You can do it. Wish you the best! won't wish you good luck as it all the hard work and sacrifice you have gone through to be there. Happy trails!

While most of the trails near my home are rough single track and are very similar to that trail, complete with plunging hill sides, roots and rocks galore. I can't imagine running on them in the dark! A beautiful trail. I would love to run there some time.

I'm almost positive that this section is followed by a really long and smooth "trail from heaven"! Embrace it, enjoy it and we are all wishing you the best of luck.

Holly crap, that edge at night is gonna be dodgy! good luck! love your video's and runs/trails! did my 1st Marathon from watching your You tube clips! Im doing the Macau Marathon this Sunday and then the Hong Kong Marathon 6 days later...without seeing your videos I wouldn't be attempting this! and yes the beer taste so much better after the race! keep it up mate!best wishes from China

Good luck for your race. I am in the hardest part of my training for first full marathon (Oct4th - Rimouski-Qc). So I can't imagine how hard the training for 100k would be. Woh! :) Keep up the good work.

This is pretty much every trail on the east coast, especially East Tennessee/Western North Carolina. We may not have the elevation of the west coast but our trails are nasty technical.

Back in 2008, Cascade Crest was my 1st 100. This portion of trail took me almost 2 1/2 hours.

+TheGingerRunner That is how trailrunning mostly looks in Sweden, technical. There is alot of rocks, roots, swaps and mud (so it can be some really wet areas) Whats shoes would you wear, lets say for a 18 km run in that type of terrain? If i look at your previous reviews you run alot of dirtroads which need a bit cushion so i have ruled out Mantra and the Terrra Kiger, perhaps a misstake?

My wife doesnt want me to, however, strongly thinking of doing this race next year and my wife isnt happy you're posting all these cool videos (it isnt helping; she yelled). The section does look really sketch: walk, walk some more and walk.

What pole are you using to hold your camera, and do you recommend it? Looking for something light to backpack with. BTW....I dig the color you used for editing. Good luck on your run and watch out for Big Foot at night.

Did you smell smoke from the fires in Canada there? I have relatives in WA and they even have ash in the air where they live. I'd hate to be running 100miles in air conditions like that. 😕
