It's cool that he's on a 5th Olympic team (no small feat). I hope to see him play plenty of more seasons with the longevity of Jagr or Finland's Riikka Nieminen-Välilä (a 44 year old member of the Finnish women's team who's played in Nagano, Salt Lake City, Sochi, and Pyong-Chang (taking a decade long retirement to be with her kids and husband)). Yesterday, 44-year old Riikka was the only Finnish player to net a goal against Canada.
And this is why Datsyuk is my favorite player. He's amazing and can do magic with the puck but he's really kind and humble and honestly only plays because he loves hockey.
From Detroit, I have played hockey for basically 40 years. I have followed pro hockey for basically 25 years. I am a multi-team, player and sport fan. And after all that, Datsyuk is still my favorite player.
Wayne Gretzky was asked in an interview in 2011 if you could come back to the NHL as any modern day player who would it be excluding Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin who were considered the best at this point in time Wayne said it would be Pavel Datsyuk but what does he know he is only Wayne Gretzky.
just notice how he was voted #1 player in the nhl by THE PLAYERS, and was picked first for the all star game, he is a fantastic player, yea sure crosby is good, but hes no fucking datsyuk
Thanks Dakota - I am the creator of that video. Today it got promoted on SportsNet Hockey Central at Noon! "I absolutely loved it." - Doug Maclean (Former GM for the Florida Panthers and Columbus Blue Jackets).
Detroits going threw a transitional period with Lindstrom retiring. I've been watching Datsyuk since he came into the league. Datsyuk might not be leading in points or goals but he does a lot more then just score he's also at the top of the list when it comes to take aways. He's probobly the best two way player in the league. Yzerman put up big numbers until Scotty Boweman took over as head coach. Yzerman was told he'd have to sacrafice numbers to be a better 2 way player.
Actuall Dasyuk is on the team to make the plays that cause goals not just to score goal. They have him becasue of the fact that he is the best two way player in the game today.
Dude what the hell are you going on about? The best and biggest stars in the NHL think that Datsyuk is the most difficult player to play against. He's literally the only hockey player that can make the best pro's in the world look like little 5 year old children learning to skate.
Guys, Datsyuk is a member of the triple gold club (these are the ones who won the Stanley Cup, the World Cup and the Olympic gold), do you know how many such players? in total today only 30 in the history of hockey. The Triple Golden Club consists of 29 players - 11 from Canada, 9 from Sweden, 7 from Russia and 2 from the Czech Republic, and besides that, the club has one coach
LOL all these people saying datsyuk isnt one of the most talented ever. No he's not in top 10 scoring , terrible argument. Its a different game these days , sooooo much harder to score. If you know anything about hockey you know datsyuk is the best 2 way forward in the league. Amazing defence and THE sickest hands.
Naturally, Pavel is called Pavel Norris, but his Father Chuck, liked to keep a disadvantage away from his son, and told him not to show his awesomeness 100% to others..
"We can speak russian..Nobody can understand us on ice.."Красава Павел Валерьевич..Русский человек..Что называется "Не забывай свои корни..Помни!Есть Вещи на Порядок выше.."
I guess you miss Datsyuks goal a couple of weeks ago where he went from one end of the ice to the other and dekek ever member of the other team and scored. When was the last time Crosby did that?
The most important indicator of the utility player is his + / - In Pavel's entire career NEVER it was not negative. Now it is 208. In Stemkos -4. At 81 Crosby, Ovechkin 79, at Malkin 42. And what good is that they gain more points? Sorry for my bad english, I hope you understand the essence. Datsyuk - the best team player in the world.
Yeah I do in fact play hockey. I can dangle and score too. I idolize and watch Datsyuk all the time and try to mimic his skills. Now I'm being honest, I won't take anything away from Sid being a star player, it's the little things like stick work and elusiveness. Datsyuk is finesse, tricky, great hands, and dangles players out of there jocks, while Crosby is fast and skillful with hand-eye co-ordination, and has quick hands like Pavel.
I think he meant game 4. And generally he probably is underrated among the fans. It's all the east coast bias about Crosby, Ovi, Malkin, Giroux, Stamkos, etc. Among the players everyone knows he is amazing.
What’s crazy is that they didn’t move the Gatorade pylons meaning the guys who went before him probably made divots in the ice. You see him catch them a couple of times and still made it look effortless.
Only for this season. Points per game over the last 5 years, Datsyuk is 10th best in the league (keep in mind he isn't considered a goal scorer and still gets these numbers), Stamkos is 7th. Datsyuk leads Stamkos in assists steals faceoff % shootout % and +/-. Stamkos beats Datsyuk in goals, thats it, and once St Louis retires Stamkos will become your typical 40 a season goalscorer. He wont pull the crazy numbers weve seen these last 3 years. Dtasyuk>Stamkos, you can't argue against it.
Did i argue about the fact who is better, or who has the better teammates, i did not say Crosby is better. I simply stated the fact that the pens were in the process of rebuilding, and saying the Red Wings will be the next to do it. You have to give props throughout the season for crosby, everyone has their dryspells even in the postseason.
Crosby has great offensive ability, but Datsyuk is close there, his puck control is greater than anyone else in the world, and his defense is actually one of his best assests, also he doesn't get caught up in all the bullshit pushing and shoving. He wont take stupid penalties. Thats what makes him the greatest in the world and best all around player, but crosby is a close second
The obvious argument to that is that Pavel is more of a passer than a scorer, which is true. However, I don't think anyone here that watches both players would tell you Crosby plays with better players, so that might be a factor to consider. And Crosby is also more of a pass first player, having 386a in 435gp (.89 per game) compared to Datsyuk at 478a in 732gp (.65 per game) Crosby's compete level and vision on the ice are next to none. In closing: Both of these guys are really special players.
trust me, im a goalie and i love a good defence, but if theres a player out there who can get some padding with goal scoring, i would much rather have that. just my personal opinion.
Um, with Dan Bylsma coaching them and Quick who just one the Cup? And great leaders like Callahan and Parise, and Patrick Kane leading the team in scoring? Sounds like a winner to me.
I'm not even talking about Datsyuk. Giroux is a great player and he's a big part of the Flyers. The suspension didn't help, if he wouldn't have been suspended for a dirty hit (I think he could've got 3 games for that), the Flyers could've sent the series to a game 7, in my opinion.
