Moravian violinist Pavel Kling, who as a child performed with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, was sent to the Nazi camp Terezin at age 15 in 1943, his violin hidden in his belongings. There he became close with Gideon Klein and performed with him and cellist Freidrich Mark; his concerts are documented firsthand by Terezín composer and critic Viktor Ullman in the new book Our Will to Live, by Terezín Music Foundation director Mark Ludwig. Kling survived Auschwitz and in many conversations with Ludwig described his life in Terezín and the sustaining power of music among its prisoners.
