*Tree rings look so great, and are the worst things for trees when owner fills walls in with Mulch or Soil.* Don't raise your existing soil level, and even installing trees root ball higher up after wall is built will still produce girdling roots. So just install the walls and keep an eye out for girdling roots anyways without cover of mulch since nurseries keep these young trees in root bound containers. Or just spray paint your dead tree and superglue plastic leaves to it.
Moneil Patel, yes absolutely! Just taper height lower when you apply soil nearest wall. Anything higher than an inch of soil nearest obstruction will allow tree to produce roots through added medium which will inevitably have greater chance to deflect off of wall, possibly sending new roots back toward trees main stem. (Aka: Stem girdling root) In a perfect world roots encountering wall would dive deeper and continue out other side. In reality one can observe roots doing both by either paralleling along sidewalk, or diving underneath and coming out other side of walk. Since you are aware of possible problems now, you can experiment. Then if roots do begin circling within wall just under soil surface, you can either prune them back, or physically reroute wayward root underneath wall and back out other side.
I read that 2-3 inches of mulch is okay. Can anyone confirm/deny? Also- what do yall think he used to get the ground flat in the circle containing the stones? Thanks in advance :-)
Looks great, but will suffocate your tree and ultimately kill it ...do not mulch at least 12" circumference around the tree trunk. The root flare of the tree needs to be exposed...Girdling roots will wrap around the mulch tree bark if not cleared away from the trunk....
Are you saying that a 12in circumference around the tree should be left as is dont add additional soil or mulch? Sounds like 90% of people are doing it wrong.,yikes! Where can I see a picture
But... you’re covering the tree’s root flare. You should never EVER cover a tree’s root flare with anything. Maybe the tree was planted too deep and this won’t matter. Proper way to plant a tree: LEAVE TJE ROOT FLARE UNCOVER.
Luke 24: 46-47 He told them, :This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem
