I’ve always had pets at home cages it actually kills me how small they were I was young and thought they were okay I’m a bit older so I decided to do loads of research before I get another one I’m getting this cage as well as the right bedding and wheels 😊
I've read some reviews for the pawhut cages on various website and some people said that vinegar and water solution sprayed on the areas of the cage they have been chewing stops them from nibbling away at it so hopefully this helps some people 😊
Rlly great review polo is so lucky I can only provide so much space for my hamster but im sure I can upgrade in the future also ur channel is amazing!!!
Great review, it’s good to see an honest opinion! I used to have a small paw hut cage and I found that my hamster would wee on it and it would smell of wee and it was hard to clean and get rid of the smell, also he has a bottle that would leak over the the shelves and stain, I’m currently saving up for the ikea detolf because it’s glass I’d say it’s more durable and easier to clean and I’ve never had a glass cage only barred and wooden ones.
The detolf is definitely more durable and easier to clean. I put polo’s water bowl on a drinks coaster to try and stop water stilling on the wood because once it get wet and damaged the cage wouldn’t be any good anymore.
The only downside I found to this cage was the accessories it came with 😅 I love how much room a hamster has to burrow and move around in, but it's hard to utilise i f I don't take out 2/3 or 3/3 or the shelves! I really enjoyed building it myself however I made it on the other side of my home so it was very difficult to move to where I wanted it to go 😂
I have this cage and I loved it. My baby did decide she wanted to eat it but it wasn’t really an issue as added “lookout ledges” from pets at home where she was chewing in the corner and she chewed those instead x
I’m trying to save up for this cage as my hamster is in the savic hamster heaven which is significantly over the us and I think it meets the U.K. minimum depending on who u ask but it’s barred and my hamster is very stressed so I’m trying to save up for the cage I have I think it’s perfect xx
Hey, I just bought this cage and I was wondering after doing this review have you had any issues with chewing threw the wood? I’m really nervous because both of my hamsters are little escape artist and I have dogs in the house and I just worry something bad could happen if they do get out. I’ve put apple cider vinegar on every corner they could possibly chew threw but I’d love to know how it’s going so far!
Great review and video. Currently thinking of getting this cage but my overall worry is toilet odour smells. Does polo use a potty if not how do you keep the odour down? Is there anything you can use that helps it? X
Thanks! I’ve haven’t had any issues with smell luckily Polo mainly uses his sand bath as a potty, sometimes the corners of his cage but I try and make sure there is plenty of bedding in the corners to absorb it. I put a layer of aubiose first and then tea bedding on top, this has been working really well. You could also paint the cage with a water resistant non toxic paint I think this would add a lot of protection.
@@ShelbyAnnThomas Thanks so much for making this video! I'm thinking of using Plastikote on the wood to help with this. I don't have a sand bath as currently I have a plastic cage, so cleaning/bad smells from where she urinates hasn't been an issue. Do you think I should get one for this cage though?
Hellllo0o, I’m getting a hamster soon and I’ve ordered a cage online! (Hasn’t come yet.)It’s a standing wooden pawhut hamster cage. I can’t find any videos saying if it’s a good hamster cage or not. However, I do know that the pawhut cages seem to be one of the faves? (Correct me if I’m wrong.) To be honest they said it’s supposed to be able to fit two hamster inside comfortably. From the pictures and the measurements (which are ; 122.5 x 42.5 x 18 centimetres. ) it seems as if it’s ok. 🙂 (Not sure though.) All opinions welcome to my crisis. 😀
I bought this for my hamster and he loves it, but he won't stop scaling the roof - I have hammocks but still scared he'll hurt himself. Any problems like this yourself? If not, do you know how to stop this?
Hey, I haven't had this issue fortunately. The only thing I can think of is removing anything that gives your hamster access to the lid so he can't do it anymore, you could even remove the top shelf. I've removed a shelf from mine it was a bit of a pain because you have to take the front of the cage off but it might help stop him reaching the lid x
Hi, I’ve never had a barney cage but I do know it’s a good size. I don’t think it’s that popular because it’s quite expensive but I’m sure it’s a good cage. Thank you!
Heres the link although the price is pretty high at the moment but it does change a lot so it might come down. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PawHut-Hamster-Cage-Small-Animals-Hutch-Mouse-Rats-Mice-Exercise-Play-House/382624858719?epid=2296746320&hash=item591638025f:g:rFQAAOSwvIlfDnEN
Did the actual cage dimensions match the advertised ones? I ordered one which was much smaller than advertised, about 10-15 cm smaller in both dimensions.
How would you deep clean it if a hamster dies of something like wet tail? I'm super stressed because I can't find literally ANY information on how to properly clean it for a new hamster.
also what would u recommend for moving a 2 month hamster from her cage now- to possibly this cage if i get it, the only problem about it is ventilation and heat :)
@@ShelbyAnnThomas thank you!! my syrian is currently in an ikea linnmon cage and she always pee’s at the bottom in the corner and i’m worried the wood will start to rot and i wasn’t sure what was safe to coat it with xx
do you think this cage gives enough ventilation in a small room underneath a window (on the floor) in the summer, because it can get hot in my room, even with a fan?
Where did u get it from? I’m thinking of buying one but apparently the ones from Amazon are broken when u open them so could u please tell me where u got it from??
im think about getting this cage and painting it white so it will look better with my room but im not to sure of he will chew through it just abit worried!!
It’s so nice but too expensive for me :( Edit: I would get a cheap bin cage or the ikea detolf but my family doesn’t want to do diy :( might get the Alaska hamster cage
I really want this hamster cage but my concern would be if the hamster pees and it goes through and it ends up smelling and rotting, it’s on aosom for £100 and I really can’t afford to keep getting this cage every so often when it smells and starts to rot, is there anything I can do to prevent/help this?
i have this cage but my hamster chews the mesh bar thing at the top - i get her out for an hour every night and i’m not too sure why - is this big enough🥲
Can someone help me please? My Syrian hamster, Angel, has started to chew the corner/back of her wooden cage, I’ve recently had to screw out the screws and take out her top platform since she’d climb and bite the cage but I don’t know yyyyy, she has a huge cage fulfilled with chews and a chewable hideout, she has a silent spinner too and she gets scatter fed, she has abt 6” of bedding in a corner so she can burrow b she doesn’t. She digs in the top left corner even though the bedding hill isn’t there.. she’s driving me insane and whilst typing this she’s chewing the corner
6 inches is still quite a small amount, try around 10-12, and someone said to spray 50/50 vinegar and water on the chewing spot hopefully she stops. hope this helps!!
Is your hamster a big chewer? I would offer as many chew toys as possible or maybe line the cage walls with something like bendy bridges or maybe even tiles if you could secure them to the sides very securely honestly just see how your hamster does if she does chew it then you will have to come up with something
I want to buy this cage so much!! How good is it, is it EASY to set up / do you need power tools? is it basically as good as the Detolf? Thank you! Sorry for all the questions
Hey, yes I love this cage, I'd say its just as good as the detolf its just a little more tricky to clean because of the height. Its really easy to put together, you could probably do it by yourself but because of the size of the pieces it is easier with two people. You can do it without power tools but it is quicker with them. I'd say the main difference between this and the detolf is you don't have to DIY a lid for this one.
I don’t think so. I can’t find it on eBay and amazon at the moment but here it is on aosom. www.aosom.co.uk/item/pawhut-hamster-cage-58h-cm~D2-0041.html
