man this hits me in the feels. i had an awesome history teacher in high school who was obsessed w gutenberg and his life dream was to own a leaf of the gutenberg bible. he had liver failure during my time in school and ended up dying before i was able to graduate. it was always my dream to get him a replica of the bible or even a page from it, and just seeing this makes me hope hes doing well with the man himself; no more need for paper.

Her Facebook page explains why she didn't wear gloves. Apparently it is no longer protocol in the field to do so and has been validated by leading experts, museums and supported by science. The only time necessary to do so is when metal bindings or paints are involved. However, clean hands are a must

Ok I've seen about a million comments asking why no ones using gloves when handling the document, and I'm tired of responding so here's the reason. I've been told by an archivist at the Library of Congress and by the head of Rare Books at the University of Houston Archives (where I was able to handle several medieval manuscripts) that gloves, due to a lack of tactile feedback and friction between the glove and the page, puts the fragile paper at risk of tearing. Obviously a clean hand is still a must, and I trust Rebecca made sure to wash her hands before handling the leaf.

+adriel lopez actually, any antiques experts, or anyone with common sense really, would use a pair of gloves to handle old stuffs, especially a 500+ years old paper. It's standard procedure, and a pair of surgical gloves only costs a few cents. Watch the 'superman costume' episode to see how it's done right. The only plausible reason is that the paper used for shooting the episode is a copy/replica, a prop if you will, and of course Rebecca knows that.

No Rick, Gutenberg did not invent the press or the ink that he used to print. It was a modified wine press. Gutenberg was a goldsmith. A goldsmith uses a hallmark, a little piece of metal with a design in it to identify the smith. His stroke of genius was to realize he could make an modular alphabet of hallmarks and attach them to a press to press entire pages of text at once.

80k is best case scenario. You could get that at auction but they take a large percent. eBay is possible but their rules are very anti seller and and could also be a complicated process. Quick and easy buyouts are always less, but you get cash instantly.

Impressive as this is, I'm surprised that she said she had never had a chance to really examine a leaf before. Many research libraries have specimens from this series. I've looked at the one at the University of Nebraska many times.

You have to wait for the right auction to come by. It would need to be placed in a rare books auction, or rare religious artefacts auction, or similar. Going down to your neighbourhood auction house isn't going to cut it. You need Sotheby's or Christie's to sell it. It could be years before Adam finds an auction. You don't go to a pawnshop to get the full value for your item, you can only expect half of its retail value when you sell it a pawnshop, but the upside is that they give you instant cash. They buy it, and you don't ever have to deal with it again.
