If approved either you have to book a flight to LV or maybe they'll fly you there IF you have something of rarity. I met all of them when I was in LV about 10 years ago, however I just bought something I had nothing to pawn/sell. Best to you

You guys have to remember an auction house in general can take up to 30% comission.. so if the guitar sells for 1 mill, Rick would get 700.000, after spending ex. 750. Thats what he means with risk.. he has to sell at 30% above buying price at auction, just to break even.

I’m on the sales side with the customer so I’m involved with every part of the manufacturing process, from prepress to final delivery. It is impossible to QC every piece at the scale these cards are made, which is why these mistakes happen. That part is completely understandable. What isn’t understandable, to me at least, is how mistakes make things this valuable. The printing company that prints these cards is located in North Carolina and is just a regular printing company, nothing particularly special about them. They use the same equipment and processes we all use.
if you are in manufacturing you are familiar with six sigma, if if a six sigma process, 3 parts per million are errors, this automatically makes them rare and collectible, if 2 out of 3 error cards is caught in QC (which would be a conservatively low number), it makes them 1 in a million, pretty straightforward
You got to look at it from their perspective they sell this stuff all the time. They truely are taking the risk and buying something that’s worth a lot can backfire. They could make a good 100-300k out of that guitar or lose 500-600k. In the end I bet everyone’s happy he sold it at auction.
The owner of Jimmi Hendrix's guitar is a smart man. He said, "don't get desperate about it". Wise words for sure. Then again, if people are in a pawn shop to sell something, it's a smart wager they're desperate!
@@imhoenn5710 - I suppose that's a possibility, but I'd wager with a high-value, well known item like the Hendrix guitar, buyers are aware already. Buyers with deep pockets are privy to all the fancy auditions for their collections.

The scarab itself is 3,000 years old, the jewelry came from a market in early 20th century. That’s why the price was so low. If this was something made and ASSEMBLED in it’s time period, then yes it would be nearly priceless.

I think the scarab is worth more historically and would surely go for more to the right customer. Never be to desperate to sell, same as the Hendrix guy, he did the right thing for sure!
Considering he let a 2million dollar guitar walk out the door I am sure he wished he bought it for 750k he knew what it was worth but he wanted to get it for cheap

There's someone in the comments that said it sold for 1.2Mill at auction and I really didn't keep up with their conversation because it turned into a petty argument but it seems like someone was arguing it sold for more ... But I mean even if the number did end up being 1.2 the guy definitely made the right choice an I don't doubt that 1.2 number because if you took the guitar down to a LA auction and had the right advertising behind it there would be rockstars who would be ready to spend that kind of money on it ... Rick should have bought it at asking price he could have still made a lot of money

Yeah, as someone who actually studied Paleontology in college, and have a small collection of fossils myself, I almost fell out of my chair laughing so hard at her thinking she could get that much money for 'common' fossils. Even Mosasaur teeth go for less than $20 these days.

people always make the same mistake, you should always wait till the "expert" comes in and tells you what its worth, then tell them how much your looking to get
