An ironic end to - Paws & Claws Week!
Each day we featured a different species from our carnivores or large omnivores!
Well, today, we feature our fun loving and always entertaining Asian Small Clawed Otters of the Coral Isle Pools and Spas, Inc. otter exhibit!
Significant claws they lack, not extending past their toe pad, and far from a "large" omnivore - but none the less - one of the most complicated diets we provide.
The otters receive 3 meals a day, to prevent gorging and boredom. Instead, we space their meals out - much more natural - which allows the otters to eat to their appetitie for a full day and be enriched by the activities of how they are fed! Today, keepers made fish snow balls! Hey - why not!?
Of course, each day (like this video) ends with little otter snores!
The diet, which is pictured in the comments, consists of 380g of fish (capelin, smelt, herring), 160 g of produce (carrot, squash, kale), and as a preventative - a specialized cat food for urinary tract sensitives (ASCO being prone to issues). In all - care and feed per day is at least $20!
