Your play/teaching style works incredibly well for complex games like this. Fantastic job guys!

I watched through the previous Pax Ren play through, and I thought it was pretty top notch despite the lag. However, I very much appreciate your effort Amanda in going back and syncing the audio back up. This one is brilliant!

Corrections: Siege @1:30:32 Ash states that the skull & crossbones beside the knight & rook symbols means that Siege can kill a knight or a rook. But the skull & crossbones is actually in reference to pirates---so the Siege icon means that it works against (kills) a knight, a rook, or a pirate in or bordering the Siege card's location. Vote and Republics @1:35:06 Vote only flips an Empire from King to Republic if that (non-vassal) King was _already_ in your own tableau. Any Empire that you regime-change from someone else's tableau *always* comes into your tableau _king-side up._ The *only* way to get a Republic is from a strawman regime change---which is either a Vote, a Civil War (= a Conspiracy or a Peasant Revolt) or a Religious War against a King in your *own* tableau. The rulebook's entry for Republic clearly states this, and the chart on the back of the rulebook displays this as well. (The chat-room commenter Jared is actually correct when he points this out at @1:37:06 ).

I have just got my copy of the 2nd edition and have been watching several tutorials on that edition but none cleared my confusions and was frustrated. I therefore started to look for tutorial from 1st edition ... and bang! This one you did 6 yrs ago made very good sense of all the rules (which was very difficult to get hold of without this "good sense". Thank you! One questions hope you can follow up with: In ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZWuK8-tb_dw.html Edward mentioned "taking 3 actions in a turn". Can you elaborate?

Thank you for the kind words and glad it still is helping folks years later. As for your question I’ll be honest I can’t remember. I am sorry. Cheers!

The example given for the "Vote" Ops at the end suggests that the location of the card with the Vote Op is important, however it does not affect where a vote can occur. The Vote icon itself says "West" or "East" and that is the only consideration for targeting an empire. I think that's correct... Great work though.

Also, Vote only flips an Empire from a King to a Republic if that Empire was already in your own tableau. Any Empire you Regime Change from somewhere else always comes into your tableau king-side up.

Edward, around the 44 minute mark did you mute and ask Ash not to end it? I’d have done the same to bring the teach to its’ fullest extent, but I’m wondering what he was about to end it on if indeed you did? Was it a Peasant Revolt or Vote to turn Empires into Republics quickly, or am I assuming too much? Awesome video. You guys saved me a lot of headaches.

Fantastic explanation of the rules. I've just read the rulebook and I'm watching your playthrough to better visualize/double check the things I know. It's really helpful ;). Thank you for this.

Very nice! I love this game - so intense and full of chrome. We have made a review of it on our own channel some time ago and we were very impressed by how it worked!

I'm new to this game. Around the 50 minute mark Edward plays the queen and gets HRE. He then buys a card and then takes a 3rd action to run west ops. Do one of those 3 actions not actually count as an action?

They seem to have communally forgotten about the first action. Weird.

I've bought Pax Ren last week and was a little bit worried about learning how to play, but on these 2vs2 and the 4vs4 video you have done a marvelous work and i finally have some ground to start! Kudos to you gentlemen. PD: I've tried to look out for the expansion but it seems totally out of stock, any idea if it still available anywhere?

Thanks for another video for this game! I think I could play it now (not well, but following the rules), but I'm still scared to teach it.

That map looks so wrong... I'm really interested in the game, but seeing "Portugal" in the middle of Spain with Spanish cities highlighted, France too far East, Byzantium over there when it was more around Constantinople near its end (and as far as I know it no longer existed after the fall of Constantinople in 1453)... too many artistic licenses :/

What a luxury to have the time to devote to playing a single game a dozen times before it "clicks". That doesn't exactly sound like good design.
@-Markus-
@-Markus- 7 месяцев назад
Good and bad design is entirely subjective, it might be bad FOR YOU but in no way objectively bad. Also these games usually dont take much longer than an hour to play, often quicker. You can get several plays in even in a short evening. From what ive heard about Pax Ren 2nd it sometimes end in half an hour. Assuming there is no teach of course.
