The only public diamond mine in the world is in Murfreesboro, Arkansas. More than 100,000 diamonds have been found in the Crater of Diamonds State Park. CNNMoney's Vanessa Yurkevich went digging for one.

Arkansas is one of our next door neighbors - we have 8 - wanna guess what state has that many bordering states? ;-) I really love Arkansas - it's without rival in the region for it's beautiful natural elements, fabulous water - clear and clean, comprises Mountains - (Mountain Home) to - Delta. (lowlands that are rich from the Mississippi River resources and marshy - perfect for growing Riceand is home to Riceland Foods and further inland from the MS River - great climate and soil for Cotton and various grains. The state is littered with many lakes and rivers - with some of the greatest canoeing destinations (Spring River). West Memphis, AR has a Greyhound Dog Track - fully of lively Southern Accents - cursing and cheering. Further South and directly across from Mississippi are some sleepy Southern Towns - Magnolia, AR with Bed and Breakfast Inn in old Southern mini mansions - remnants of the War - (of Northern Aggression - lol) and off to the West is the Famous Hot Springs, home to Oaklawn, a beautiful horse track - (I refer to as the Arkansas Tax Depot - for the luck o the Irish sleeps when it should be awake there :-) for me anyway) and a beautiful capitol - Little Rock, a fun and beautiful city - home to Dillards and Mabeline. (and the Faded Rose-a neat little bistro with fried artichoke - yum!) Then there's the University of Arkansas up in Fayetteville and some awesome golf courses. . Considered making it home once - it is enchanting. (the ugly stories of southern stupid don't match Arkansas - more so Mississippi - heeheehee) Arkansas is definitely the road out of Dixie - and a state of it's own - no I don't work for tourism - just really love "The Natural State" y'all come -
Forest you can't navigate 8 months out of the year because of the underbrush. The insects are outrageous. Even the soil is acidic and hard clay, its awful. These forest only impress people who don't use them, and those who haven't been in a beautiful forest.
Arkansas has the 4th highest incarceration rate in America. Its not because of the crime, but rather the extreme poverty. They throw people in jail for petty crimes in this state. The idea is that first rate states have vibrant, ultra intrusive legal systems, therefore the key to prosperity is throwing everyone in jail. How bad is it? The radio disk jockies are now making jokes about people getting '30 days in jail." Its really amazing when you consider that in every possible category, Arkansas is ranked last. But why would you put a factory in Arkansaw, when the jails are overflowing with men between the ages of 18 -40, AKA 'THE WORKFORCE'
Its a joke. The average yearly household income in that county is around 12k a year. Drive around there and you will see people living in run down shacks and shanty houses. Does anyone really believe that in the midst of utter poverty, there's a dirt hole in the ground that's is pushing up priceless diamonds? That county wants tourist to come there so the local, Yokel police force can have tourist to tailgate, write tickets, or toss people in jail. Keep in mind that Arkansas has the 4th highest incarceration rate in America. How bad is it here? Even the local radio disk jockies are making jokes about people getting '30 days in jail." If you like dirt, ugly stupid parks, and being harassed by cops that answer to absolutely no one, come to the CRATER OF DIRT STATE PARK.
