Bought a 508 GT in February this year (2020). Do not regret it. The red leather is superbly comfortable and great to look at. The 225bhp engine has plenty poke (but it's not a racer). The Focal sound system is great, the massage seats are awesome. I too love the Catpaw setting. I have the sunroof too. The car is comfortable, easy to drive and takes corners confidently. The party piece I think is the scanning effect the back lights do when you unlock the car. It's made a few people double take in the local Tesco car park :) I had a pro valeter come pick the car up to polish and ceramic coat the paintwork. When he came back he told me he was astonished it was a Peugeot. The drive and feel was more inline with the Audi A4s and A5s is often picks up for work. Since he himself drives a Porsche, I will take this as qualified high praise :)

I struggle to think of superlatives for the way this review is conceived, produced, edited. Then there's the research, insight & delivery. Main stream TV is missing a trick here: Howard Ritchie. #respect

Roger bailey - Totally agree with you, especially regarding main stream TV. Just take a look at the two complete and utter muppets that the BBC are using for the new TopGear series in 2019. Freddy Flintoff and Paddy McGuinness!!?? Jeez... What are the BBC up to with that pairing??

Pretty sure WhatCar are sponsored by the VAG group so no surprise with their final verdict. The 508 is a great car it seems, just a tad too expensive for that corner of the market where badge is everything

Agree with your comment on Whatcar?’s review of this car. In fact they don’t seem to like Peugeot’s very much at all, despite all the other car magazines giving the car at least four stars. I don’t trust them very much at all these days, all they seem to care about is what SUVs VAG are pumping out.
@Horizon301.

Logan Jones they are biased, they promote VAG products because they are good but the others are usually promoted due to sponsorships. Any channel promoting a car while being paid is when I unsubscribe as that’s bias

This is very true as most of the mainstream review channels always kinda pan any of the French makers and bum up anything from Germany!

Rick Maverick What Car? Amongst other British motor magazines always give Peugeots average reviews as they can’t stand the fact the French brand Peugeot, sell a lot of cars to the UK market, so they go out of their way to try and talk people out of buying one but quite willingly advise people to buy polluting, dull and expensive VWs!

Another great review by Howard. The Pug looks really good too. Just a shame about the choice of engines though. Especially considering what Peugeot used to do. Unfortunately, they have nothing with the sort of power to rival those from the German brands :-((... And this is Howard's first review I've seen since the BBC announced that the two new TopGear presenters are going to be Freddy Flintoff and Paddy McGuinness... I'm left totally speechless by that pairing.

@thezanzibarbarian5729
@thezanzibarbarian5729 5 лет назад
@@RogerBaileyOnCars - I struggled to watch TopGear with the current three, but watched purely because Chris Harris was there. OK. We all know he's no Clarkson, Hammond or May, but he's a proper driver and talks sense. Most of the time. But now with Flintoff and McGuinness coming, I'm not sure I'm even going to be able to watch. Flintoff is just a retired cricketer ffs. if he wants to comment on cricket, I have no problem with that. But cars!!?? As for McGuinness. He was only half decent playing a "bit part" as a doorman in Phoenix Nights. I find him totally unfunny and a total turn off when he appears on TV. And to think the BBC are going to be paying them half a million each!!?? They're only using them as they are so called "big names"... Not in motoring they're not!! Hammond and May were totally new us when they came onto TG, so why don't (Didn't!) the BBC do something like Clarkson did and get in new blood? It's because they're probably friends of friends. Look at the BBC programmes now and see just how many current TV presenters are doing stuff that's not associated with what they have ever been doing before. Which is normally the news. Fiona Bruce on the Antiques Roadshow. Another turn off presenter. She's an example of someone who knows SFA about the job (Antiques!), but as she's a news presenter, she gets the job and another fat salary to boot.

Very well executed review. Nevertheless some points need pointing out because they are real obstacles for buying: Front room is awkwardly cramped - tight space between door and centre console unsuitable for those of more than 15 stones and/or 6ft 2". NO - and I really mean NOT AT ALL - room for feet in the back seats. A size 8,5 does NOT fit, because there is no possibility of getting und the front seats. Getting in and out is uncomfortable in front and awkward in the back.Snake-like crunching and bending is necessary to get in. Do not even consider using child seats here! Headroom is very limited up front and unbearable in the back. Gives an impression of wearing a helmet somehow. Boot capacity is good on paper but shape is unpractical: Lack of loading height towards the end forces to stow larger (and possibly heavier) items far into the boot which is a pain to get to and especially to lift things out. So -an I am a Peugeot-Fan owning several classics from the 60s and 70s - "design overkill which compromises usability in a rather unclever way".

Great car, looks fab, well specced. Sadly it will plummet, the tech will fail and the aftersales will be very poor. I have an F30 67, the car tells me when there is a recall etc. I had a Peugeot 66 plate, I had to proactively chase Peugeot for updates on a weekly basis.

As a french petrolhead, i appreciate when someone do a nice review of french cars. Unfortunately, you miss an important point regarding the engine/gear box. The small diesel is the only one available with the manual gearbox witch is average. The 8 speed automatic is absolutely rubbish and ruin the all car which became a deal breaker. The confort, the noise isolation and the interior is much superior than a 3/4 series. The C class is too old to be fare. The audi A4 is not available in uk ? A very good car like this peugeot is pointless without a good combo engine/gear box. If you drive this peugeot more than 5 minutes on a B road with up and down hill, you’ll fell the annoying auto gear box witch don’t know when downshift or upshift on normal conditions and you’ll probably update you nice review and make my point.

If I am not wrong, the gearbox it's the same that use Volvo. And a guys from Italy (I am Italian, and always we have those "hate-love relationship" with the frenchs, then we don't speak good about french cars 🤣) have proven the car in a fucking curvey road... For them (225 HP) the gearbox was very good. Personally, this car is one of my option together with the Giulia.
@porsche911235
@porsche911235 5 лет назад
@cornelius. Thanks for your comment. You’re absolutely right, the peugeot gearbox eat8 is made from Aisin in Japan. Aisin manufacture gearbox for Volvo, peugeot, bmw and so on ... The peugeot gearbox software is the issue. You can drive on 8th gear at 80 km/h witch is fine, but the hesitation to upshift and downshift is hilarious. It’s a shame because peugeot is coming from a long way. I’m sure the next generation of gearbox will be fine.

@@porsche911235 but you can use the pads, in the sport mode. Anyway, I think that it's a software "problem", because I remember watched videos from Spanish guys that proves the 508 pre-sale and they mentioned what you say. However, post-sale 508 reviews shown a different results. We must wait a pair of months, this car it's the big chance for Peugeot to beat the Germans (good cars, but a lot of them overrated)
@porsche911235
@porsche911235 5 лет назад
@cornelius, the gearbox can’t deal with the massive turbo-lag of the tiny 1.6 , it’s simple at that. With the 225hp in D, when you ask for power to overtake, thinks became dangerously interesting, believe me. An hybrid version is coming soon and I believe it will be average. Peugeot beating german cars ... hum ... I really don’t think Peugeot deserves it. When audi won at le mans they give the world the R8 When Peugeot win le mans, they give the world ... nothing at all. I don’t want to “french bashing”, but in france, people who cares about driving bought Japanese or Germans cars. Sometimes there are extremists who drives RS renault’s hothatchs and they cry “mommy mommy” , when a 147 gta is nearby 😢😢 If you care about style this 508 is fantastic. If you care about cars walk away. (Sorry 4 my bad english)

Award winng and i cockpit don't go hand in hand. Cock pit and peugeot does. I took the bait and clicked the video. It's that. Click bait. And the 508 is against the 3 series by the way. In no way it's a coupe style vehicle, in fact it's more akin to a vauxhall insignia in style with peugeot lights.

The award winning infotainmen wins the award of the most ball busting lag you can have in a car. Shouldn't be sold. In no way it's quieter and rides better than a c-class. The 1.6T...oh god. For an 7,8 sec to 60 car you can have cars that are classes faster (6 for 0-62) like the giulia (diesel!!!), BMW 330i or 320d or what you want, c-class, volvo s-60. There is NOT one person that could pit the peugeot against those in this spec and expect it to fair well. Yet it cost more. Well done fuckers.
