PayDay’s First Time at the Drag Strip! | STOCK 2018+ MT82 Mustang 1/4 Mile

This is the time I took my STOCK 2018 5.0 S550 Mustang with an MT-82 to the track!! This is also the FIRST time ever going to the drag strip in this car, so the only benchmark I have to beat is the 2018 Mustang Production 1/4 mile time of 12.1 (auto) and 12.6 (manual).

It know it's been over 8 months since this video was filmed, and 5 months since my last uploaded video... But we're officially back!! I have a handful of videos I need to edit and get uploaded before we're officially back up to speed, but now that I'm finally moved into my new home, videos will resume! Thank you guys for always been so patient with me and my difficult work schedule. It doesn't always work out for me to edit my own videos, but they'll be making a return starting NOW!! 🙌🏽

Your last launch was definitely where you want to be. Basically, fighting both discs of the clutch so they don't lock up too soon. I prefer to turn advancetrak off and slip from 5k to avoid the car falling on its nose. On prepped nights, my brother's old 19 hit a 12.57 with a 1.8xx 60ft with no mods (smoking the clutch too). He stopped after lemon law with the transmission's gear position sensor. My 18 got a lot easier to launch on a McLeod RST, so my best is a 12.18 at 116 with a 1.8xx 60'. Still tend to grab the 2nd disc early, so average was a 12.3-12.5 @ 114. Haven't tried any drag radials yet, just Nitto 555 G2 that absolutely need a prepped night.

I was launching at 4800 or 5000 with advancetrac completely off. The last pass was also the only pass I made by myself too. The first 2 had passengers.

@@Zorbii So, you came to same conclusion we did lol. Also, jealous of how short your lines are. At our track, you have to sit in line about 2 hours between each run. Temps get hot creeping up in line, even with the hood cracked. Makes a bad pass incredibly painful. My only other tip, beware of upgrading valve springs. I chose to stay NA for track days and went with comp cams and valve springs. The factory phasers hate the stiffer springs and would fail safe back to 0 degrees for all 4 cams under full wot. If you go boosted, stay at a safe power level where springs aren't needed to save the headaches.

That was the plan! I was going to run the stock motor forever because this car should never need to touch 1000hp except to wow somebody. Plus replacement engines will be cheaper this way.

This was with the stock shifter! I still recommend the barton shifter as an upgrade too. I installed it about 2 videos after this one.

I’ve been shifting the car right at 7200. Since this, the car is boosted and revving to 7800 and I’ve been experience more locket with the higher rpm. It’s still been manageable though. Stock clutch too.

Do you ever have any problems with your transmission when ripping on it like that. I'm going to be buying a mustang soon. And I really want a standard shift. But everyone complains about getting locked out.

It’s not that bad. It’s a problem that you’re going to have on ANY car you’re constantly banging gears in too. The MT82 may be “weak” but it’s pleasant to drive and does really well with a Barton shifter in it 👍🏼 Ill be open about if I have any issues with any of the parts on the car. But everything I’ve done, I love so far.

Yeah a little bit but it’s a hard tire if you do burnouts it’s only gonna get harder so you’ll spin more but usually tracks will move you over a little bit

There's some really ordinary manual launches in this video. You guys need to learn how to increase the rpm and slip the clutch out smoothy.

I agree with you. Those were the first launches ever with the car on prep and being 100% stock. Next time I’m at the track, I’ll definitely doing some more aggressive launches. I’m MUCH more comfortable in the car now than I was when this was filmed.

@@Zorbii Good on you for giving it a go. There's a sweet spot between increasing rpm/throttle whilst simultaneously riding out the clutch. Not too slow or too fast.

I was actually using the 2 step on the car so I was completely WOT the entire time launching around 4800 rpm. TC completely off as well. Next time out I’ll start with that and bump the rpm as high as it will go.
