[PAYDAY 2] Shadow Raid DSOD: Ultimate Stealth Guide || Everything there is to know

Literally everything there is to know about Shadow Raid DSOD: advanced tricks to open the vault solo, all loot spawns, all crowbar spawns, brief explanation of why certain guards become stuck/stationary, my suggested paths to secure loot efficiently (two approaches shown depending on the difficulty you're looking for), tips for XP farming...
Preplanning is very straightforward so it's added at the end of the description to keep the video shorter.

· Common sneaky strategy, good for learning the heist:
13:18 → Usual sneaky strategy.
14:00 → Remember the 5-minute timer roughly when reaching the roof.
14:25 → First priority: get rid of the camera operator.
14:47 → Good nearby spot to stash your loot upstairs.
15:25 → Loot the upper floor and move the bags to your stash.
16:20 → Very common path for guards walking upstairs.
16:30 → Move on to the lower floors. Note on identifying static guards.
16:50 → Good spot for Murky kills, especially after one roamer becomes static.
17:10 → Some light loot can be taken to the roof.
17:25 → Continue looting downstairs. Throw loot into the sewers.
18:18 → Blocking the helicopter spawn.
18:55 → Securing the loot from the roof. (Stationary dock guard variant)
20:00 → Securing the sewer loot. (Stationary dock guard variant)
20:28 → Brief intermission: routes when the dock guard spawns on the other side.
22:32 → Intermission ends. Loot counting up to 12 bags.
23:00 → Good spot to kill the keycard civ, when he's here.
23:50 → Good spot to kill a Murky for his keycard drop.
24:02 → Using body bags and corpses to stop the patrolling orange civ.
25:56 → Armor time.
26:36 → My suggested path to secure the armor.
· Advanced strategy:
28:45 → Advanced strategy. More fast-paced and less sneaky, while still being very safe.
29:40 → Stash all your loot for quick transport.
30:20 → Get rid of the 4 roamers, while getting keycard drops in good locations.
32:00 → Move loot directly to drop-off.
33:10 → Everything bagged. Blocking helicopter.
33:33 → Moving the loot upstairs.
34:15 → Vault opening.
35:27 → Quickly securing 16 bags using this strategy.
37:47 → Money/XP breakdown.
37:56 → End screen!
➽ PREPLANNING? I decided not to include preplanning in the video because it's very obvious, and it would just make the video longer. Here's a very brief and simple description of your options, and how to decide which one you want:
- Loot zipline: if you want to slowly but safely secure your loot.
- Loot drop-off (at a chosen location): if you plan on using a set drop-off point instead.
- Thermite paste: if you want to unlock certain paths through the sewers. Note that loot can be moved through the small gap at the bottom of the sewer grates, without requiring thermite paste, so this is only needed if you want to physically go through the sewers yourself.
- Spycams: with leftover favors.

This. I remember being scared shitless, trying to get all the loot I needed from the shipping crates because going inside, there were a billion guards who all looked everywhere and would spot me any time I tried anything ever. You, sir, have opened my eyes. Time to be scared shitless with slightly more knowledge!

Trying out a rip-off Payday2 game in Roblox, they had Shadow Raid, I tried it out and there we're shitloads off roaming murkies ( about 8 ) and outside about 6 guards and the keycards would spawn on random guards and murkies, that's right, no guaranteed keycards, thank god you could carry 2 keycard at once and they didn't see the vault open.

No crazy vault door, or gang drung trades. No puzzles to decipher. Just you, loot, and some guards. If you feel extra you can open the vault with 2 key cards.

I’m normally awful at stealth in games. But after watching this video, I was able to steal the samurai armor & like 6 extra bags of loot. The info about stationary guards and grabbing a key card through the floor were both very helpful. Thank you.

If a guard becomes static at one of the windows overlooking the vault, you can use your weapon threat to make them duck&cover. Just shoot near them with a silenced gun a couple of times; they will kneel and loose LoS to the vault. Also works with guards who become static down near the vault and sometimes half-turn around. Even when stuck, they may eventually see the open vault, but if you get them to kneel, their LoS becomes static too.

Very good point, McToast! Even when stuck, they continue playing their idle animations (turning their head left to right) which can eventually give them LoS to the vault, alerting them. Threatening them until they duck disables their idle animations completely, which is very helpful for this situation :) Interestingly, even though they visually seem to crouch, their eye level is not updated (even though they are forced to look exclusively forward, which is already very helpful). I've never checked if that is enough for the guard next to the window overlooking the vault to be unable to see it, but based on your experience, it seems like that is enough!

@@Marcmb Well damn me, I always thought their eye level dropped too. But maybe that was just how it seemed, because their FoV was suddenly so narrow. I usually do the same with the poisoned guard in The Big Bank, to get him to drop behind the couch. I guess in Shadow Raid it depends on the way the guard gets stuck. I have successfully robbed the vault at least two times with a guard being stuck at that window, they didn't see the open vault door. Love your channel btw, veteran of thousands of hours in PD2 and still learning something new every video :).

@@McToast1337 Indeed, their FoV becomes VERY narrow, so it can easily give that impression. I thought the same too, until a veteran named Rex explained it to me. I sometimes do the same with the Big Bank guy too, but the problem is that, with high concealment builds (e.g., saw + shotgun), it actually becomes a disadvantage: the fact that he's never looking to the sides, instead always looking forward (able to detect you because of low concealment) means that you have to be slower, because he's constantly detecting you!

Well, I've done the heist solo on DSOD now (15 bags) and I've managed all loot + the samurai armor in a duo team, so thanks for the help! Way better than before where I couldn't even find a crowbar lol

Thank you so much, as I have been at this mission time and time again trying to figure out how to get the vault open in time, as well as keeping the guards away from it, but thanks to that trick of having the guard/civ drop it overhead, I was finally able to complete this after what feels like hundreds of tries! Have fun with that one, Cerivicio! It is indeed quite similar to the waterfront dumpster, except you don't have to kill any dock guards, so you can use your 4 pagers inside, making the heist very fast every single time :)

Had a friend who grinded Shadow Raid for so long, he says he's memorized the guard's pathing. One of the first heists i ever did, and one of my favorites because of it. I was horrible, and kept getting caught in the cargo yard. Now i can do it pretty well on my own. It feels good to be able to do heists you used to be bad at, with new knowledge. And hopefully, this guide will help me see less restarts in public lobbies. Just kidding, we all know that won't happen.

Haha yeah, good point Cedric! This most likely has something to do with the way the editing software calculates the timer: technically the timer was running for 606 frames, which at 60 FPS would be 10.1 seconds, but somehow the timer stops at 10.099 :p

I'm something of a newbie (got the game last December as a Christmas present) but DSOD Shadow Raid has already become my comfort zone "this is the stuff I do to relax" heist, and I've been a very stealth-oriented player from the word go because I like how heists become pseudo-puzzles that way. Your videos on various heists have been very helpful in getting a significant number of my DSOD achievements. Thank you for this, it's been quite insightful and revealed many things I had no idea about (such as the heli spawn blocking) regarding what is easily my favourite heist. Keep being awesome.

Ah yes, Shadow Raid, my favorite heist to do classic stealth solo. I think it's the easiest stealth heist to start learning proper sneaking after mastering all the clearable stealth maps. Too bad I can probably get more XP solo by just doing two Bank Heists. Even after how often I've played it (second only to Jewelry Store for card drop farming) I did learn some new things. I always believed the timer for the helicopter was random, but this makes much more sense. Also, that body bag placement after securing the warehouse for the keycard civ is something I will definitely start using. Great video as usual.

Glad you liked this one, thank you! :) Indeed, it's a shame that they lowered the XP reward (back when they wanted to make ECM rushing less efficient), and they didn't consider lowering the XP if you escape too quick (like they do for Election Day, Ukrainian Job...). I have played 300 hours of Payday 2 alone in 2016. Stopped playing and now i wanna play again. Your videos have teached me more than those 300 hours of experience, sometimes we ourselves get overwhelmed by guards and think there's more of em than it is in reality and we start fucking up easily. Honestly, I think outside is harder than the warehouse. hears my 4 reasons why: number one: hordes of civs and guards. There is more guards and civs than the warehouse itself. Very annoying. number two: Guards don't have flashlights. For some reason, they don't have flashlights, despite it being night, and its outside. This can be a problem. since you cannot tell if a guard is at a corner or not, unless you use sixth sense. number three: civ and guard paths are a pain. Corners, bad spots, getting cornered, and the worst spots in general. number four: trip mines are useless. the outside has like 5 bag of money which isn't worth anything compared to the warehouse. I wouldn't waste a tripmine here. So I would recommend you do the warehouse first, then the outside to grab all the money bags, so you have time to ecm. and not waste a pager.

Yup, the outside is kinda bad... maybe in the future I'll post a quick video with tips to move around it (with all the guards and civs), but considering it only has 4 money (which is worth almost nothing, compared to what you find in the warehouse), and for max XP you only need to loot the warehouse, I often end up skipping the outside. Alternatively, what you say about going there at the very end is definitely the best choice!

Great guide! Personally I prefer using C4s as perfect markers for whole building instead of ECMs, but you have to be careful not to blow any door instead of opening it.

Whenever you're using C4, you always have to be careful with those shaped charges :p Personaly, similarly to Breakin' Feds, I've never considered trip mines for this heist, because it's very easy and convenient to kill the 4 roaming guards around the relevant part of the heist. Marcmb is the absolute goat oa PD2 stealth. This man managed to take a portion of the game some people consider slow or boring, dissect it for anything he could learn, and master it so much that his stealth gameplay is as fast paced as some people's loud gameplay.

That would be a cool mechanic! However, you would have to make it seem like the door is closing on accident -- otherwise the trapped guard would just sound the alarm instantly, if he notices that someone is locking him out! :D

15:25 if they get stuck here, couldn't you startle them to get them to crouch, blocking their view of the vault?

Hey Zach! Intimidating them like that doesn't actually make them crouch (although it does look like it), it just disables their idle animations (looking side to side). Their "head" is still in its usual position, so they are not blocked by obstacles like that. However, it is likely that locking their field of view (disabling the head tilts) is enough to prevent them from seeing the vault!

woah, this has always been my relaxation solo stealth, ive done it dozens of times while chilling, only a portion into the video and already clearing some misconceptions. firstly the balcony door thing is neat, ive always went the waterfront garbage route and cleared floor 2 first, throwing into the south wall asset location , but i might have to reconsider that now, thanks! and too, ive been doing the heli block strat for a while, but i just thought it was a variable time within a minute or so over 5, very cool to realize now its much more static

Hey Unwithering! Considering there's already code for a player having _two or more_ of any asset (keycards, crowbars, meth ingredients...) when another disconnects, it should be easy to allow players to grab a 2nd keycard when they already have one. The devs probably consider it a balance decision at this point! Probably to encourage crew play :)

I dunno, the "100% loot runs" tickle my funny bone a little harder, but this was still extremely well written and informative. Though given it was already 30 minutes long I see why you didn't want to do an unabridged full run after all this. EXP wise your route here is as efficient as it gets..but at some point..its for the challenge of scoring all the loot, or the glory of a bigger off-shore account. Still..I thought I Knew Shadow Raid as well as anyone alive, and you still managed to show me one thing I was genuinely shocked to discover. I never knew you could just jump on that dumpster and drop loot in at the end like that if you do a camera man alive strategy. Amazing :D

Hey Nosgard! 100% runs are definitely still fun to do. I did one just for fun, just to get a short 20 second clip for 12:27... but the video was already way too long (for what I expected to be a short video), so that one will have to wait for another day :p Glad I was able to teach you a small new thing! That simple jump makes that type of run much faster and safer, which makes this type of run (where you kill everyone except for the camera guy) a lot more appealing :D

Marcmb, thank you for this useful guide! I didn't know about the vault detection until halfway until moving all my bags a guard saw it. I forgot to bring ecms as well, so that was a great way to end a run. Thanks for the advice on loot spawns, which npc has the keycard guaranteed other than camera room and that you can grab keycards through floors. Again, thanks. This'll really help.

First things first: THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO, I FINALLY COMPLETED THIS HEIST AFTER 2 YEARS!!! Second: I have noticed some things in my attempts, there sometimes was a keycard in the lockers behind the benches, and also sometimes a keycard on the kitchen counter. Also, I have noticed that in my runs sometimes the guaranteed crowbar 1 sometimes wasn't there. Overall great video, these are just some things I noticed, keep up the good work!

Glad to hear the guide helped, and congrats on your first clear! :D As for the things you mention: the bonus keycards only appear in lower difficulties (which I didn't cover in the guide, because I teach about DSOD only!). And same for the crowbar! Since lower difficulties have additional free crowbars, one of the guaranteed ones can be removed because of that :) I'll do my best to keep it up, so hopefully the guides will continue helping!

Hey 0d in! Nice to see some more old heisters who still remember that one. It's true that coke did use to spawn up there _very often,_ but it was removed some updates ago. Unlike the Framing Frame DAY3 device relocations, it was not mentioned in any patch notes, so I decided not to add it to the video, but all the spawns shown here are the spawns for the current patch :p

I don't usually use sewer so I'm not sure, but I think you can throw the bag throgh the lower hole so you don't need thermal paste. The other thing is you can shoot near guards to force guards to crouch, which is really useful for stationary guard near windows.

Aww thank you Walter, I appreciate the kind words a lot! :D Very happy to hear that you're liking the video format :) As for your two questions: (1) You can definitely fit bags through there, yup! And by using the different manholes, you can get loot from one end of the sewers to the other without ever using thermite. Thus, thermite is only technically needed if you want to be able to _physically go through the sewers yourself._ (2) Very interestingly, even though the guards appear to crouch, their "detection point" (i.e., their eyes) doesn't actually move, so they would still be able to see it, if they're looking in the proper direction... it does prevent them from playing their idle animations though (looking left to right), so it might be good enough to keep the vault hidden from them :D

Great tutorial- overall amazing. As a 3 year player these are really helpful tips, especially with the helicopter, which i had to find out after hours of searching for tips. One problem. Num.4 crowbar spawn is not guaranteed and theres 2 other additional spawns. (upstairs near room with server and edge of warehouse near the zipline) besides that nice job!

Glad you agree with these tips, and glad you liked it :) As for your comments: - Crowbar #4 is guaranteed provided you're playing on DSOD: on lower difficulties, there's an additional spawn (all the way back at the start of the map, before you jump to the roof of the warehouse) which may disable other spawns. - the crowbar upstairs near the room with server is random crowbar 3 shown at 7:29, and the one at the edge of warehouse, near the zipline is random crowbar 4 shown at 7:40!

Hi there MADA! I honestly don't remember when the window was added, or if it was there forever. It has some uses in speedrunning (and ECM rushing), because using the truck at the entrance of the warehouse you can jump onto the window, and then enter the room through that :D It's very cool! Awww that is absolutely the worst. And on the last bag, too... that is a shame. Someone actually had a similar thing happen to them (recently in the comments), so don't feel too bad about it haha! Glad the guide is helping, at least :) Also here's the tip I gave to the other heister, who also fell down the ladder: when dropping down into the sewers, always approach from the side opposite to the ladder, and walk into it: it will catch you every single time! Example at 24:40.

Third completion: 13 minutes, 20 seconds, Armor + 14 pieces. Used the dumpster by the fence, as I then ran out that way. Used a combination of both your techniques, killing the guards and civs, leaving cam guard, and was jumped by two guards right as I was dumping the loot, first the guy that walks back there (the guy that can be stationary), and then by the guy that walks by the ladder you climb up in the beginning. Had PECM and ECM to rush to the end.

Much better time Stefan! With a fully fully optimized strategy (and tryharding a lot) you can aim for 5 or 6 minutes solo. It might be a cool challenge after you've done every single heist! I might upload a video like that in the future (kinda like a bonus upload) because it's a really fun "speedrun" :D Also that's one of the main benefits of bringing those ECMs even for solo! It's good that you thought about using them, because you get an additional 4,000 base XP for escaping in stealth - a huge amount that's equal to the reward for securing 8 individual bags! (500 each)

Nice video and great editing work 👍 I do enjoy a good shadow raid and was my first video too, I do have to say that you missed a spawn location for a coke bag, the place you missed was to the left of the doorway to the locker room on a vent near to where a camera can spawn, the location is where the sewer grate is with the doorway right in front of the vault door. I hope I explained it well enough to work out and once again great work 👍

Either because something in the code broke, or because a dev manually moved that coke spawn (which happens every now and then). Not sure which update changed it though, but I haven't seen that coke in months!

@@gamingwithsmokeydan Yup, you were absolutely right! Unlike the recent Framing Frame device relocations, I couldn't find it on any patch notes, so I decided not to mention it, because it might be very old. All the spawns shown in the video should be every single spawn for the current patch! :)

These guides are great! I didn't tend to touch stealth (Loud supremacy baybeee) but these guides have helped me get confident and they've really helped! Also here's a quick little fun fact for anyone trying this: In a really bad luck situation, you're gonna have to be forced to wait for the orange jumpsuit civvie to get his keycard. I just tried this and the guard who became stationary was the ONLY one with the keycard and he was situated weeelll far from the vault (near the entrance of the warehouse from cargo courtyard) which meant I had to wait for that special civvie to come by, so keep that possibility in mind or just pray to AlmiRNG! Also hoping there will be a guide for Diamond Heist (unless i missed it), even though it's not even that hard of a stealth it'd be nice to still be able to know all the locations of the laptops, sapphires, and other useful tips like safe bag spots. Great content!

Thank you Hoxtinator! Glad the guides are being helpful, and as a loud enjoyer bringing you closer to stealth! As for the orange civ, there are some situations where you're gonna be forced to get him, so it can take more than 10 minutes of waiting! Hopefully you have some bags to move while waiting... I recommend setting up some "body bag traps" so that, if the orange civ walks by while you're not around, he becomes alerted by the body bag, and stops right there for you to get him! Example at 24:05.

By the way, I'm doing a written guide for the basic achievements of Crimewave Edition of the game (PS4 & XB1) and was wondering if you would allow me to use your Stealth guides to cover some of the particular achievements.
