The thing people don't realise about Carolina reaper is it has a unique timeline compared to all other chillies. It builds heat to begin with and then kind of stabilises at a certain heat for a minute or two and you think " wow this isn't so bad " but then suddenly the heat builds to it's peak heat and remains there for around 15 to 20 minutes. That's why at first these people seem to deal with it ok but then a couple of minutes later they struggle when it really kicks in. Also different chillies affect different parts of the mouth. Carolina Reaper gets you in the throat mostly and makes it hard to swallow and talk. Ghost chilli ( bhut jolokia) mainly gets you on the lips and tip of your tongue. That's why i like making curry with ghost and reaper mixed together to maximise the pain and to get an endorphin rush.
