---------------------------------
What is Paymaya?
---------------------------------
It’s a prepaid virtual visa card. You have to add money to the card before you can spend it. You use it online like a credit card, but you cannot spend more than you have, meaning you can’t put yourself into debt.
---------------------------------
VISA or Mastercard?
---------------------------------
If you signup to Paymaya using a Globe phone number, you'll be issued a virtual VISA card. If you signup using a Smart phone number, you'll be issued a Mastercard virtual card.
---------------------------------
Can you have a physical card?
---------------------------------
When you signup through the app, you’l be given a virtual card which can be used online. For a small fee, you can buy a physical card to use in shops and at ATMs.
At the time of making this video, the card is being sold for a one time fee of P150
New cards include a CHIP for extra security
---------------------------------
Does the balance ever expire?
---------------------------------
Load for PayMaya is reflected as account balance. It doesn't expire. But accounts can become dormant if no movement (ex transactions) after 5 years. Then they start charging P30 per month per BSP circular.
---------------------------------
How can I load money onto the card?
---------------------------------
There are several ways to load money onto the card including payments centers, online banking and Smart stores.
But personally, I’d recommend reloading at 711 via their CLIQQ machine because the money reflects on your paymaya account almost immediately and 711 rarely have long queues.
---------------------------------
Does it cost anything to load money?
---------------------------------
At the time of making this video, there is no fee for loading money into your Paymaya account, but this could change in the future.
If you convert your Smart money to Paymaya balance, there’s a 0.5% fee.
---------------------------------
Are there any limits?
---------------------------------
Regular accounts cannot load more than P50,000 per month, cannot spend more than 50,000 in a month and cannot have a balance higher than 50,000.
If you verify or “upgrade” your account by sending copies of your ID for verification, these limits increase to 100,000
---------------------------------
Can I withdraw the money
---------------------------------
If you have a physical card and your account has been verified or upgraded, you can withdraw at an ATM for a fee of P15.
It has been reported by one user that you can withdraw from Landbank ATMs for a fee of just P5.
---------------------------------
Minimum age
---------------------------------
Paymaya recommend a minimum age of 12 years old.
---------------------------------
Where is the security code?
---------------------------------
The security code is also known as the CVV. You can find this in the app next to the long card number or on the back of your physical card.
---------------------------------
Can I use it on foreign websites or abroad?
---------------------------------
Just like a regular VISA credit card, you can use it anywhere you see the VISA logo and that includes foreign websites or abroad with he physical card.
---------------------------------
Can I use Paymaya on Lazada?
---------------------------------
Yes, just select VISA on checkout.
---------------------------------
Can I link my PayPal account to a Paymaya card?
---------------------------------
Yes, just make sure you have a minimum Paymaya balance of P100 before you try to add the card because PayPal make a test charge against the card to verify if it’s genuine. This authorization charge will be refunded.
---------------------------------
How about using Paymaya with iTunes, Google Play, Netflix, Steam, Spotify?
---------------------------------
Yes, you can. But even if you’re signing up for a free trial or just using your card to verify an account, you need to have a minimum balance of at least $1 or around 50 pesos.
Most of these services make a small authorization charge against your card to check it’s genuine and valid. This charge is automatically reversed within a day or two.
Since currency conversion rates change constantly, I’d recommend having extra in the account to ensure the card passes these checks
---------------------------------
Do I need to be a smart subscriber to setup a Paymaya account?
---------------------------------
No, you just need any Philippine mobile number. It can be from Smart, Globe, Sun, any network.
