Several observation after watching how you play and how you play the lanes. 1. Technically 25 to 1 ratio is an easy bowling pattern in which if you miss right of target the ball can still return to the pocket as there is no "cliff". If you miss left of the target, there should be some hold and ball should still go to the pocket. 2. Based on premise # 1. The best way to attack the lane is to be able to generate the correct angle or hook. If you attack the line just straight up in an easy lane in a prolong series of games, the margin of error becomes smaller. 3. The reason you are not able to generate much hook is not because of the ball but because you are a speed dominant rather than rev dominant player. Normally speed and rev should go hand in hand. 4. Now the reason you generate very little hook is because you employ the suitcase release which causes the ball to travel very long before it get to its spot of being able to hook. Aside from this release, you are throwing the ball fairly fast and in the middle where the concentration of oil in house pattern is higher. This cause the ball to not be able to react properly and sometimes results in wet and dry reaction. While straighter is better especially in difficult lane condition, its not in easy pattern. Anything that is 4 to 1 ratio and below is sports pattern, up to 9 to 1 can be challenging pattern and above that should be recreational pattern. 5. Why is the ball hooking less in the later round? Its not necessarily your ball speed that is getting faster. It can be because the front lanes have less oil while the oil in the midlane have been pushed towards the backlane. This reduces hook and carry. This is why bowler who can hook the ball always try to find oil in the fronts and the friction in the back end to be able to still hook the ball. Using pearl balls in later rounds to combat late round condition is often the strategy use while using solid stronger balls are use in fresh conditions. 6. That being said, learn and practice to release the ball more behind your hand instead of on the side as the ball pass after your knee bend. As the ball pass your knee is when you then slight turn your wrist as the ball exits your thumb. Your thumb has to come out first then your finger to be able to generate proper hook. The more you are able to keep you hand below the equator of the ball, the greater you are able to hook and manipulate the ball. Once you learn this technique, you will be able to play from the very outside part of the lane to the very inside part of the lane with confidence. This expands you ability to be able to adjust and play different patterns well. 7. Bowling is indeed a learning experience . Remember that practice is key but proper knowledge is just as important to improve your game. 8. Happy Bowling and wish you luck in your future events.
