Wonderful to recall her at Manhattan Sch of Music in the late 1970’s. She was quite stunning even then.

The STAR of this gala is Miss Catherine Malfitano. I don't think anyone will ever come close to her singing of this thrilling scene. She receives excellent support from Jean Kraft, James Morris and Maestro Levine. It is VERY rare to have people give a standing ovation in the middle of one these galas, especially back then. But I know I would have jumped to my feet wiping tears from my eyes after hearing that thrilling and passionate high C#!

American Symphony Orchestra. The Met orchestra was at the Met

Most of them dead now 😢.... Milnes just turned 89 and fighting dementia.

Liked, subd, etc. Very good. Excellent upload. By any chance do you have a copy of the 1980 Gala, also for PBS and hosted by Sills? I ask because another uploader and operaphile (@Yoland Kwok) has shared their copy but apparently it was damaged in the uploading process.
