@Kleiner Helfer It wasn't even a thought in Japan lol, it did horrible over there compared to the Super Famicom which was about on par successfully to the PC Engine.
@@cnk9822 yeah... same can be said about the PC-98 as well too but x50 times that more than the PC Engine. But honestly there's only like 10 or 15 erotic/ecchi games total in comparsion to the normal/great ones like the Far East of Eden series, Kabuki Rocks and many anime licensed plus Linda3 to make up for it.
@@MrDmoney156 yup, but those were extremely popular, even in wikipedia says that the console's popularity was in a small part because of those shovel ware games.
Konami is lazy. They own the rights of the Sega CD version of Snatcher (that is mere port of the PC engine version),it was possible to use the english dub . With Dracula X they already released the dub two times, with Psp and Ps4 releases.
They should have included a prop hu-card to complete the look. I've always liked the aesthetics of 80s/90s Japanese consoles like the PC engine (especially with the cd sidecar) or the Sega MK series, they have this vibe like their design came from a cybepunk future that never came to pass.
Yes, a blank Hucard and a set of repro labels, to bling out the authentic feel... too bad they went barebones. Really nothing but the actual stylng sets this apart fromm the numerous othr options in emulation. Definitely should have been more imaganitive to really make this the best retro release! Pricey for yet another soc.
I would love to see a PS2 mini, but I think that will be a little while yet... PS2 still needs a decent PC to play well (depending on the game) and on phones you need a top of the line phone to even have a chance. A mini PS2 would probably end up costing like 300-400 dollars right now, if not more. But as soon as one comes out I would be all over that. Maybe the rumor of the PS5 being backwards compatible, I have like a ton of old PS2 games!!!
@Kleiner Helfer Tell me how Gran Turismo 3 and 4 runs on it :P don't bother I had a FX6300 it runs like ass. But hey maybe you didn't overclock yours... Maybe not having OCed is the secret to getting it running right. lol
@Karl Burnett So? Do they keep track of everyone with the flu? Could be in the hundreds of millions! The problem is not the Covid19, is the circus behind it and the manipulation of the masses by fear and disinformation.
@Karl Burnett So? Do they keep track of everyone with the flu? Could be in the hundreds of millions! The problem is not the Covid19, is the circus behind it and the manipulation of the masses by fear and disinformation. That's the problem here. And the media together with the WHO are inflating the numbers too. Also, have you seen the way they test the virus? Some of these tests can give false positives, there are many things that are completely off. Check on Italy, is a big lie, all done exponentially as big and as fast as possible, so people cannot inform themselves objectevely and calmly.
I need this thing... Cough cough regardless Over the years this is the one console that I wanted and never had. I'm 47 but we had no money to import these things in the UK back in the late 80s. Now I live in Australia I'm hoping to visit Japan one day and buy a basic PC Engine.
Yes that would cause this to be an instant buy for me, I mean I still will buy one 100% for sure... but I mean I would pay scalper prices if it had that lol
An English translation of the PC Engine CD version exists, so I wonder if someone'll figure out a way to hack this and add games so you can just add it.
@@XOmniverse The game really doesn't need a translation. There are only a few cutscenes in Japanese, otherwise, the game is totally playable. Even the menus are in English.
That reminds me, if Sony were to try again at a mini PS1, they could make it based on the newer facelift of the PS1 (Referred to as the PSOne), and that would give them a chance to put games people actually wanted in it. You know, Metal Gear, Tomb Raider, Gran Turismo 1 and 2, Ridge Racer 4, etc. Call it the PSOne Classic, or PSOne Mini
Just get the original, download AutoBleem and you'll have the best mini console out there, plays everything perfectly, no need for a new one (although I'd love to have something like that on my collection, ngl)
@@tizocwave7729 it was by far the best mini console so far, after it was hacked. The best mods, the most modern controllers, and the cheapest. I don't even have any of my other mini consoles hooked up any more. It really was the best and is yet to be topped.
You can still get the PCE Mini and Core Grafx Mini if you order from Amazon Japan. I got my Core Grafx yesterday and it only took 4 days to get here. I paid $110.00 USD total for the whole package including delivery. As of today there are 66 known games on the TG-16 and Core Grafx. Technically if you consider the secret American version of Ninja Gaiden there are 67 titles included...so far. This thing in any of its 3 forms is well worth the price of admission. The PCE, Core Grafx, and TG-16 Mini are so well made that it's hard to believe how cheap it is. I have tested every single game on the machine and have only had issues with Ninja Gaiden (ENG). For once it the hype matches the product. When the TG-16 Mini is officially released here in the States I will be picking two of them up day and date of its launch (one for me and one for my fiancee how is also a diehard gamer).
Thankyou for doing a teardown. So many other channels are reviewing it and not tearing the damn thing open. I thought that was a givin for tech channels
So many games! This is the One mini console that I don't see any loop and actually does not requires a mod to add more games. PERFECT interface and all. Good review.
Nice man! Mine should arrive Thursday. I was a little bummed about the TG16 delay, but this will definitely hold me over until then. Like you, I was probably most excited for this version anyways.
I do love the SoC reveals and all the build up to them, even if they end up being ones we've already seen. But nothing beats that one time when you discovered the Monkey King CPU. They nailed a lot of details on this system. As you showed, the HuCard animation going into the system is nice(and way nicer in my opinion than the zoom effect I've seen in some implementations of EmulationStation...not a fan of that). There's also a nice touch on the save screen, as that gray thing shown for each slot is an accessory known as the Tennokoe Bank. It allowed for proper game saves in games that supported it and it attached to the back of the system the same way the CD attachment would. Funny how the smallest console has become one of the larger mini consoles since it's not too miniaturized. I immediately became a fan of the PC Engine and Core Grafx designs as soon as I saw them. If I didn't have any of the actual consoles, I'd jump on this mini one for sure. I ended up with a real PCE controller that lacks the turbo switches -- it's the first model of controller they had. I would like to know if the USB pads for this work on PC. Also, if possible, can you tell me if the Playstation mini controllers work on PC and Raspberry Pi without issue as well. Those controllers could be handy to have.
KLM4G1FETE-B041 is a 4GB eMMC 5.1 that has an internal 32Gbit NAND array with ECC controller. Note: the BGA-153 is placed within a TSOP48 PAD area that appears to be pinned for ONFI 4.0 (NAND TSOP II). So this board could ship with either a eMMC or raw NAND that is compatible with the ALLWinner SoC.
I noticed your comment from a year ago... how did you find the Mini compares to your actual PC Engine? I'd definitely prefer the original console, but I have neither myself. I'd love to own R-Type Hucards! Do you still play the systems?
This is a special kind of mini. More 3rd party titles than you can ever hope for. Of course you get plenty of Hudson titles as expected. Whats probably the biggest advantage here is Konami is behind it and has plenty of great titles to add. Plus Tecmo, Taito, Namco, Falcon, etc. About a dozen PC-CD games and a couple of Super Grafx titles. As always I went for the Japanese version. I like the design and the controller is really great despite only coming with a single controller. The plus side is they are USB ports so you have other options. I absolutely love this mini. The only real complaint I have is a handful of games in Japanese only. I was able to put translation patches on a small number of games. Hopefully a few more fan translation hacks come along in the near future.
You need to mention that horizontal games like Lords of Thunder,R Type, and etc on this mini have scrolling shimmer. It is very noticeable by gamers that use original hardware. This may be a deal breaker for those that want almost as close to the real thing as possible?
I didn't have anything to do with these consoles growing up (had Nes/SNES/Megadrive/Mastersystem/Amiga/PS1 etc) in fact I don't remember seeing them. However I can see the little touches to this mini console that shows the passion the creators have had. Here's hoping Nintendo can do an N64 mini with the same love.
I just got mine yesterday, playing Rondo of Blood right now. Console is great. I also pre-ordered both PC Engine and Turbografx-16 from Amazon Japan, but I ended up canceling my TG-16 mini because it is too big in size and it would have looked out of place and weird next to all my other mini consoles. I know that they were going for a correct scale between both, but I think it was a bad decision, and I have seen online that I'm not the only one who thought so. Too bad, because I wanted that one too, had it been a bit smaller. Nintendo did so with their NES and Famicom, the minis are much more approximate in size than the real respective consoles, for the sake of harmony. PC Engine fits right in though, as you have shown, so I'm glad I got that one.
Definitely want to see an all-games video. Had the TurboGrafx 16 back in the day (still actually have it) and I LOVE it. Especially loved that the same HUE cards worked in the handheld version, which I also have. System should have dominated the market.
I love this console! although I noticed the scrolling is slightly jerky in some games like Dragon Spirit... it's almost like it can't keep up at times but I don't know if that was the case in the original console or is it an emulation issue. Also some games are in Japanese, so good luck figuring out how to play those :)
Thanks for the video. I owned a TG16 back when they were revelant and preordered one a few months back. The wait will be painful but completly understandable. I remember reading magazines before the release and seeing pictures of the PC Engine. I always felt the US got a raw deal in the fact that the PC Engine and Core Grafix were these cute, little systems while the TG16 was big and bulky.
M2 was responsible for the emulation side of things. They also did the emulation for the Genesis mini as well. I'm still waiting for my TG16 mini that I've preordered.
Looks like there are a lot of sci-fi / shmup and fantasy games. I never have played the PC engine or TurboGrafx-16, but this makes me pretty tempted to go buy one of these.
My god They REALLY made this thing the best it could be! It seriously destroys all the other mini consoles in terms of attention to details, and the library! Wish the SNES mini was as detailed as this. Like if they also had a satellaview section where it had animations of a satellite beaming down to a SFC or something. So much potential.
Fantastic stuff as always. This has been the one mini console I have been most excited of seeing a review on, and it has definitely proven that it is amazing quality, with proper love put in to getting it right. Sadly the cost for me in Australia is a tad prohibitive, but I am definitely thinking once some funds free up I will definitely grabbing one. Thank you as always for the great content.
I think it's in Japanese? As far as I know only the Sega CD version is in English or if you can find the translation floating around. (Not sure what they did or how good it is I haven't tried it yet.)
Please tell me how you are able to put out so many videos so quickly! Do you have a warehouse full of electronics, and a team to help you produce? Truly amazing
Would love to see a test of lag from the emulator, compared to a real PC engine, or PC or Pi. PCE has lots of great SMUPS you need minimum lag time. Film it with a high-speed camera showing your finger press the button and then slow it down to see how long before character/ship moves.
I love that the Mini is only about an inch smaller than the original tiny console xD I sure hope they make a mini CD-ROM and interface unit add-on like the Genesis got.
Was looking forward to getting mines until it got delay till the end of this year. So glad you got your hands on a unit. At least we could see what you are going to do it. Thank you.
Not fair! I was meant to be getting a Core Grafx for my birthday in early April. Not now. Enjoyed the vid. Nice front-end and everything looks top notch.
Awesome review, thank you. Believe it or not, my brother still owns the original Turbo Graxx 16. We have about 20 games for it. Including China warrior, bonks av, and others. The one game I always wanted, but we were too broke to ever buy, was splatter house. I might end up buying the Turo grxx mini, just for that game.
The system has been dumped and the usual people are working on it, NV, Honeylab etc. Not all of us have been able to secure a unit just yet. My pre-order was canceled :( What's interesting is that the hardware actually varies between some of the systems. Not sure how that will affect things just yet, (if at all).
Looks amazing!! Thanks for the video and rubbing it in my face that I have to wait until the end of the year to get my turbo 16 mini in Canada . NOOOOOO!! 😫😫😫
Seems a really nice system. I'm currently thinking about if I should get one. The PC Engine never really interested me but the games on this look cool and I think it could be a good way to play the games without owning the original hardware
Go for you on getting it, however this is among the minis i had no desire to acquire the PCEngine mini or TGFX16 mini. I will get the evercade when I can, just no desires for a mini console other than the four I am content to own and that includes the Neo-Geo mini, Genesis mini, NES mini, and SNES mini.
If it gets hacked I would only add NES games and TG-16 games to it, the controller fits those two consoles perfectly. I kind of wish these mini consoles would have a MicroSD slot for firmware updates or adding more storage... Like the NeoGeo X.
You should do a current value when you review the minis ie the cost of the console in question and the current game values. So people know just what their getting value wise.
I really wish these mini consoles had a "functional" card/cart/disk slot with a replica card/cart/disk to put in it. They dont even have to actually be hooked up electronically, I just want to relive the feeling of pushing a cart in. lol
Before you opened it up, when I saw the menus, I said to myself,"those menus sure look like my Genesis mini menus". So I'm not surprised it's got the same CPU. I'm definitely getting one eventually. It looks nice. However, I am already running retroarch on my Genesis mini thanks to your guide, and I have tg16 being emulated on that, and since this is obviously running emulation, the only upside is the increase in memory.
