I love the honesty in the elevator. Instead of "this floor is closed for renovation,' they went straight up with "This floor was never modeled or rendered."
This was my very first computer game back in the day! I would love to see this remade one day with better graphics! These type of games would be great for virtual reality!
Same!! Was the first game I played when my mom bought my first computer when I was 11. Had no damn idea what the games about or even how to play it but it was such a surreal experience, it was like the most high tech software I've ever seen back then.
Well you're in luck 'cause they remade this back in '97. It's called "The Journeyman Project: Pegasus Prime". While I DO prefer the original solely for nostalgic reasons, "Pegasus Prime" is definitely a great looking reissue.
@@LiquidShadows I know about Pegasus Prime but even that game is outdated compared to today's graphics... Would love to see a more modern version of Journeyman from this era
same it came bundled with our new packard bell computer, with windows 95.....unfortunately it didn't include the manual...so the door was a challenge :p
@@Lunchboxdx oh man that door....i remember i would stay up all night (which was probably only til 10:30) when i was about 5 or 6 just inputting digit combinations over nd over. i mustve found the manual eventually cuz there's no way i got it right by guessing. then the pterodactyls scared the shit outta me when you finally get outside so i stopped playing.
Dude omg same here. As soon as i heard it it took me right back to that day in the 90s when i discovered this and life was happy and simple and care free
HAH!! I thought I was the only one who had or remembered that. I used to use the explosion sprites with everything. Then I made the mistake of enabling the sound effect with the Sprites I had those and SkiFree(Nightmare Fuel)
@@Catalinaeva2388my older brother gave his PC to the family when he upgraded. I was so pumped to play this game but I didn’t know the door code to get into the TSA, I think it was in the manual, but we didn’t have it. I tried every single number combination until I got the right code. Painful but so worth it.
Wow. I have been looking for the game for over 20 years. Drove me nuts. Finally found it again today. Thanks for sharing and being a catalyst for my renewed love of point and clicks!
Interesting bit of foreshadowing: the person going to the roof of your apartment building at 12:20 is Dr. Elliot Sinclair to prepare for the assassination. And the transporter music track at 30:22 spoils a major plot point! Is Agent 5 precognitive somehow? He also had that dream of Caldoria exploding. Between 46:50 and 48:00 you pass by two blue screens mounted on the wall. These contain some interesting details and history about the Mars colony.
Yes!!!!! Aww man do you remember "enhanced" music CDs that would the particular artist's video single on it? One day I put a music CD into our family computer for the first time and it just so happened to start playing a music video...tripped me out that technology was advancing like that!!! I was born in 87 so VHS and the family Compaq Presario were like the most expensive pieces of tech that we had at the time!!! Ahhh take me back when things were simpler... and if I had a choice I'd say drop me right off in 1994!!! 😢
No kidding. If I remember correctly, at the "I've been expecting you!" line, I nope-quit the game and took a while to work up the courage to come back to it.
Hated them too my brother got this game with his computer when got it back in 1996 cost him 2000 dollars that's he told me he also got other games with too
So funny the things that scared you as a kid. I remember being so scared to move in the dinosaur level, and then terrified at the robots. I never got through Mars. At least I can see how it ends now! 🤣
17:55 to enter tsa door: 6894895 20:10 left monitor: 0291384 33:50 History log right monitor: 0524133 52:30 Disarm the Bomb Level 1: Green, Red, Yellow Level 2: Blue, Yellow, Red Level 3: Yellow, Blue, Green
Man that little song at the beginning took me right back to the day i discovered this game demo in the 90s when life was happy, and carefree and i had just gotten my first PC. It was a magical time in my life
Oh wow. It’s been prob 20+ years since I played this game. I must’ve died every single way you can die before I beat the game as a kid. Took me forever to beat it though. The installation disc for the game came with this old HP desktop computer my dad bought to use in his home office.... which just turned into my own little game machine eventually! 😂 I remember it came preinstalled with Windows 98. Oh the memories. Edit: and thanks for uploading this vid so I could relive part of my childhood. I must’ve been around 15 when I played this.
He is may he rest in peace... He actually guest starred on an old episode of Sanford and Son in the 70s playing a doctor. I recognized him immediately!
This game... is so surreal. I really think time travelers made this game. Theres references to so much futuristic stuff. Project pegasus is actually a real thing. The game made me feel like im really correcting temporal time rifts. A reboot in our matrix? An account of time travel recorded in our akashic records, and covered up by a "fictional story and game"? you could almost imagine that this whole entire story could potentially be our future and is so on point that its eerie. Who ever beat this game has completed their training to become part of the TSA... lol.
Im having the weirdest deja vu from reading the comments after the video. I just remembered the mentions of prime... but i dont remember playing that sequel. I remember telling my ex that there was only one game I thought I played that I never beat. For some reason I remember being stuck on mars and my save point kept getting me killed with no resolve... But then I watched this video and remembered every piece of it until the end. So I had to have beaten it. This game... felt so ahead of its time in 95' on my first PC it came with, a Packard Bell... They don't even make Packard Bells anymore. The nostalgia is unexplainable. Were the creators from this game time travelers from the future? Every time I played this it was like peering into our future. A weird ominous feeling. Just watching this brought back those feelings. Its been 26 years!
Haha when I was a kid, the game blew my mind and still scares me to this day with those Mars robots, it's funny how certain stuff just sticks with you. Something about these kinds of point and click games with limited movement is inherently creepy
Super Cool, I was similar, in 8th grade with a Packard Bell. Win95 75MHz 1.2gb HDD 8mb ram & 2mb of video ram, also had a 8x CD-ROM super fast! hahahah not! I think it was a special "multimeda" edition from Best Buy, it was top of the line except for the 75MHz pentium lol
My first computer game. I played this along with the island of Dr Quandry ? And prince….memories. I feel so old right now and this is so nostalgic. I was 13… this was 30 years ago😮
i was literally so young i couldnt read properly, i could read the words, but not really comprehend . but i remember going across the street to hang with my friend and playing this game. i have vague as fuck memories of this. Like i was a cyborg in a bedroom and that was the whole game. Turns out i bought this a year ago and im only just now finding out this is THE game.
Omfg i have been trying tonfind this game for sooooooooo long. This is the last game i could not fornthe life of me remember the game or the premise. Ahhhhh so satisfied.
I remember this game frustrated my mom so much because plot games where you had to figure out what to do yourself by guesswork was a new thing. She was used to getting a full list of instructions. This was before the days of online walk-throughs too! So needless to say she never finished it lol I had to. I find it interesting to hear 90s slang in the year 2318. I knew those were golden years!
Do you know that Poseidon is a gentleman and he's not going to shoot you until you face him? At 1:21:13 you could turn right, instead of left. This way you turn your back on Poseidon. Step backward several times, and then turn around. You will not trigger that shooting scene and you will have more energy left(more points).
this was so unworldly before I started smoking weed, shoot, its was only about a year later when I started drinking. love the 2nd half of the story line, feel like I could use it as a script pitch and get me a Netflix contract
This game did 4 things for me when I played it as a kid in the 90's #1. Made me long for the Sega Saturn version of this game imagining how I could fully explore it #2. Poseidon was the 2nd most intimidating robot I've ever seen as a kid. ED-209 holds that title #3. I learned to navigate where Honolulu, Dublin, Addis Ababa, Bangkok, Bonn, Seoul, Reykjavik, Svortalsk, Madrid was on a globe...REAL QUICK (TX was a given as I'm American) #4 Introduced me to the....Best...Track... In....The...Game 56:20 (When the whole song is playing) (I loved that they used this in the Sega Saturn Trailer for this game that came with this)
If I recall correctly, there is an alternate way of defeating Poseidon on Norad VI - rather than use the crane arm, you can instead go to the airlock to the crane room and maximize the room pressure (as the airlock warns you NOT to do). Poseidon crumples up from the excess pressure as a result.
I wish someone could make the flute version of JMPT theme a ringtone or text tone. As a matter of fact, it’s the best version. Why is it not on a soundtrack?
Did you know that in the Mars shuttle chase you can use the Graviton Cannon to hit the robots shuttle so you only have to use the energy beam like twice before you can tractor beam him?
oh wow.. at 1:08:30 that weird random sounds and stuff is supposed to represent you becoming delirious from the drug! I never realized that as a kid playing this... and was hella confused... or thought the game was glitching out lol
I got to Two places when I was a kid when this came packaged with my 1GB Hewlette Packaard PC: To Mar and to the Age of the Dinosaurs. Never figured out how I got either place, because I was too young and stupid.
i have sort of a flexible list that i follow, but i'm pretty far behind on it because i havent had a lot of time to record stuff for this channel in the past 6 months or so. if you have suggestions though i'd like to hear them; many of the playthroughs i've done so far have been from recommendations, like shivers and dark fall.
1:13:40 Man this writing is excellent for even today. I missed these videos on my play-through. I was 5 when I first played this, but even missing half the lore I could tell this game was good. How do we get modern devs back to this level of science writing?
I like the original version better, but I played this one first as well. The original has a bit more detail, but grainier graphics. More nostalgia too. For those of you who like the ominous theme song, I believe it’s one of the songs on your living room-hologram thingy.
i do plan on making more videos for this channel! i have some stuff in the works. i've just been quite busy with work and my other hobbies (i dedicate a lot of time to the speedrunning community for example) and haven't had a lot of time to sit down and plan/record longplays. i'm going to try to upload some new videos within the next few months
Is it just me or do a lot of the sound effects in this game sound like the developers just made mechanical sounds into a microphone with their mouths and did some post processing? I hope thats the case
@@Adreitz7 Right? "You are no[t a real challenger], but I love a challenge." That always bothered me for the same reason, but if we're being charitable, this is an easy-enough interpretation: "You're not a worthy opponent, but I love a[ny opposition or attempt to resist]." Either way I love how it was delivered.
I remember playing this game when i was like 5 or 6 got 0 idea of english still got the original cd , i was nevwr able to pass like 3rf stage after time travel to the past to recover the disc, hahaa never knew what to do onnmars
The original was better, but I don’t want to shoot this one down either. They definitely refined the graphics, but they’re more choppy. And the robots are more cartoony. To me the difference between this one and the original is similar to Lord of the Rings books vs. the movies. Both great! But….
It looks like it's not on the official soundtrack, probably because it's just a 16 second loop, but luckily all of the sound and music in this game is stored on the disc in .WAV format, making it trivial to rip. I've uploaded 6 loops of it, which adds up to around a minute and a half, but if you'd like an extended/longer version, just let me know how long you'd like it to be.
