Did you play the first game? They've done something similar with Isara, though for me it was even more heartbreaking there.

honestly, isara was just stupid in VC1, they just fought trough a battle, they are not 100% sure that no enemy is around, but yes, lets get the fucking TANK DRIVE out of the tank.. YEs she had emotional impact, but thats all her death did. Raz at least had an actualy in story REASON that made his death a necessery thing for the plot to move forward, and not just a device to highten emotional engagement

tbh Raz was a one big deathflag, I know he's gonna die after 5 mins of playing the game :P

Raz is back as a playable character but he's still dead. The smoking scene is one of his memories before the suicide mission.

Nah, nothing like that. No "what-if" story. It's just him honoring their memory and just to let players have an excuse to bring back dead characters that died for post-game stuff. I mean, that's why the Cenotaph is unlocked AFTER the first time beating the main story. You revive dead allies that you couldn't save any time you want. So if an ally dies in a skirmish in post-game, no worries, with enough DCT, you can bring them back and continue using them as normal for the gameplay.

Agreed plus raz is a shock trooper which are basically the best units in the game since they have the best rounded stats heck my joker a scout took a lance to the head fairly certain a shock trooper can handle a few bullets. Come to think of it most of the units can take a ton of damage but the shock troopers seem to have the best survivability and raz is easily one of the best.

Yeah no, they clearly shot him dead until the radio cut out, this is just wishful thinking. It would actually do more damage to the story and make this sacrifice worthless. As for why Units take more shots than the enemy, that’s just gameplay only.

@@nickcalderon2637 well, looking from that angle the whole VC4 story was worthless, because operation cygnus didn't achive anything. They stormed into capital, but before they could do anything the war was over, because [events in the VC1 finale] has happend. They just wasted their time and lives. Even the ending states that cygnus was quickly put under the rug and claude thrown out from the military for ignoring the orders. Also, while I agree that Raz survival could undermine the story, I feel that writers could easily spin it if they want it, because we only hear his death. It wouldn't be supprising if shooting sounds came from unknown rescue party, that's a very old trick. Heck, look at Waltz, he survived despite the fact, that we saw his tank burning and rolled into a pancake lol. Ending is also very vague - we see Kai at cementary, but she's visiting only one grave, despite losing two close friends. Also remember, that VC4 writing was very poor at times (like waltz survival, waltz sudden appearence at the capital despite the fact he should avoid it like plague to protect his woman, or how forseti died despite the fact they could easily disarm him or shoot his leg), so raz sudden survival wouldnt be suprising :P

@@acidous Alright, there are quite a few incorrect things about what you said, which I will simply correct. The War didn't end because of the events of VC1, as VC1's story had ended since around Chapters 6-7 in this game. The War ended because of the fact that they had a Human Nuke in their Capital. So saying Operation Cygnus didn't achieve anything is only as correct as far as the Operation didn't fulfill it's initial objective, destroy the Empire's Capital City no matter what. It DID succeed in bringing the War to an end due to the Federation now having a Gun to the Empire's head.

@@acidous As for Raz's and Waltz survival, I do concede that Waltz surviving in his tank was nonsensical to a fault. However, Raz getting rescued is just illogical, as if he did get rescued, why didn't we see him at all. Why didn't he show up again during the Ending, or hell, the Capital wasn't that far from where Raz was shot at, so why didn't the Rescue party just head on over there before the Game's Final Mission took place during the Empire's Surrender. That is once again, mostly wishful thinking, wishful thinking that's based on the Game's sometimes poor writing

@@mincishhimself Sorry, but canonically, Raz and whomever you send with him (I believe the canon choice for this is Zaiga since he has the most unique dialogue of anyone you can choose for the Strike Team) on the Strike Team are dead, and they stay that way. Getting them back is just post-game stuff and is not officially canon, just like how it's not canon to have Welkin, Isara, Alicia, Rosie, Edy, Largo, Crymaria, Selvaria, Nikola, or Chiara.

It's a lesson about not having a choice all the time. And you're taking it like a stubborn baby crying "noooo I don't want that"? The reviving is post-game, non-canon, for getting dead characters back. You know, so you can have everyone in the save game without starting all over.

@@dierare Someone else putting in their two cents- Fair, you don't always have a choice. At the same time, I think the other viewpoint, that characters shouldn't just be offed because "WE NEED TO CHECK THE 'CAUSE PLAYER TO FEEL PAIN OVER DEATH OF CHARACTER' BOX" needed to be checked, is also valid. Yes, I could already tell Raz was going to die within the first couple minutes of the character being introduced, based on prior experience with VC1. (Damn you SEGA, damn you. You know what I'm talking about) At the same time, given that his future demise was so foreshadowed that to say it was heavy handed is an understatement of the decade, it would have honestly been more surprising to have him survive. Moreover, this is a game where crystals heal you from the point of death, special people literally power ships and can also become nuclear devices. I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility for, say, a resistance movement, or some other allied group, to come in and help Raz. It certainly wouldn't be the most unexpected nor unrealistic thing in the game. (Now, if you're into watching characters you've had an attachment to die, see "Professor Layton and the Unwound Future". You wouldn't expect a puzzle game to cause someone to break down sobbing, but you'd be wrong.)
