You know it's a good game when it makes you care about the side characters.

Oof Scott's last "Yes Sir" really had impact :(

Damn, this stings double if you've done all the squad stories and know everyone's back story.

Most of these lines are making me weep man. Brittany, Jimmy, Jean, hell anybody with someone they're leaving behind makes me sad. Oh God and Ferrier talking about her mask.

4:27 "What the hell are you doing?" "I don't know, I could have sworn I died a while back."

Some of these characters truly wish to go out with a bang, and for them this mission is designed perfectly... then you have other characters that are so innocent that just imagining them in this scenario seems like a crime against humanity. When Eileen is telling Raz to go on ahead and he says "See you later" I'm just thinking DUDE THAT'S EILEEN, SHE'S NOT GONNA MAKE IT PAST THE FIRST SCOUT

Neige probably has one of my favorites of these lines. You'd think she'd be scared out of her mind but she stands firm against the odds. Even facing certain death, she manages to keep her cool for the sake of her friends.

I sent Ryan under the logic of "Who would be the best partner for Raz to increase chances of survivability?". After all, he's a legendary merc. However, my friend sent Nico under the logic of "Who would immediately volunteer?". Her personal effects were given to Godwin. ;v;7

It's pretty nice that they made individual lines for all the units, this scene and deployment. It's a touch the average developer would just gloss over.

Who did you all choose to go with Raz? I chose Zaiga. He was so reliant of Raz, I just felt it was right he go out with Raz.

I picked Keigel. Between him saying “I’ve waited a long time for this” when you select him and his son that died in war I felt it was suitable for him to give his life so the younger generation can live.

Part of me kinda felt like Raz could die but I didn't expect the person I sent with him would die, too. It was pretty traumatic! I sent Zaiga. He and Raz were my go to guys through the whole game. I knew they could get the job done.

Leonhardt's final words are badass.

Did it with Odin cause he was my favorite and it hurts when you know the finesse and clutches he made to make this happen. Man Lily going to cry about this

Damn those unique lines. I feel like some of them have been waiting to die. Vancey seems like she's ready for it. Drunk and all. Most of the others don't want to die but it's the only way to protect Raz and are ready to accept it.

And then Odin gets reincarnated into Owain... who winds up going by the alias Odiin, anyway. :/

Millenia: "I love you honey. Wherever you are, I'll see you soon." Me: "GOD DAMMIT MILLENIA!"

You are the GOAT dude thanks! I chose Millennia because I felt like she wouldn't have minded meeting her husband early. Ryan, Vancey, and Kiegel wouldn't have been bad choices either since they also embraced their final moments.

I love seeing how lively this topic is among players, and how ripe it is for each of us to spin our own narratives and justifications around it. I think part of why it hits so hard is because in most games the story takes characters away from *us,* and sometimes, it's a demand we even expect from certain kinds of stories. But this time,we had to make Claude's choice alongside him. WE had to send someone to die. Hearing the change in deployment dialogue from each of the characters gave me a minor panic. "Holy shit, they're actually going to die." Somehow, I feel like these final lines capture the essence of these characters more than the squad stories, and it genuinely hurts.

It's kind of jarring how Raz says the exact same thing to everyone. It fits for some of them, while others, not so much.

Ferrier makes me want to cry. They all seem ready in some capacity, but she... She's just so sad

I grew so attached to these guys during the game.... this is actually breaking my heart!

You can also get generic soldiers to do unique lines for this.

I thought id be able to just throw away a random soldier I didnt care about but after doing all the squad stories I realized I cared about everyone. It was hard but I just sent Zaiga since I only used him with Raz from the very beginning. He was also the last squad story I did as well as his dlc

I chose Odin. He finally got to be the brave hero he's always dreamt of being. After the mission, I made Zaiga the Shocktrooper Leader and basically Raz' replacement. All these peoole killing off Zaiga don't realize how emotional it is to have Raz' bro replace him after his death

Zaiga and keigel probably the ones that fit more. I chose keigel that day. What a hard day that was...

I sent Simon, because he had that "borderlands psycho" energy and could keep up with Raz in a fight, still it was painfull knowing that he will die

I wasn't sure who to send for it, how could I make a call like that? So I rolled a d20 on it. Fate chose Jascha, Ironically enough. Rest in Peace, Math Man. O7

First of all thank you for doing it. I was really curious how some of my favourites units would react but I couldn't do it. My heart is broken for some of them like Neige and Jeanne. Ryan got a somewhat wished end but still sad

To think, Christel was brought back just to give her life once more. I didn't think I could get more sad than I was before.

The beginning of Ch.16 when you choose Raz's partner, their quotes is actually different than a regular selection and they're all unique like this ending sequence. I LOVE how Sega gave every single supporting cast their own unique lines, from the honourable to the afraid, but knowing full well this was to be a one way mission.

I really loved them all, I didn't want to get rid of any of them... But if there was someone who was willing to fight till its end... I salute you Vancey. You will never be forgotten.

I love that even the characters who are canonically not here (Christel, the crew of the Centurion) have unique lines. I wonder if the DLC characters from Two Valkyria have unique lines. If I ever get around to trying it I'll update I suppose.

After playing through so many of their squad stories this mission really hurt me. I sent Godwin the first time. Everyone else seemed too sad.

Vancey and Zaiga are the best choice to me. zaiga' because of his relationship to Raz. vancey' because of how is the only one survivor of her squad.

Think I'm gonna choose Vancey for two reasons. One is her PTSD and survivor's guilt. Two Zaiga looks up to both of them so with them both sacrificing themselves he has no choice but to man up and be the badass that Raz was

Just got around to this point after starting the game earlier this year, I feel like the "cannon" choice would've been either Zaiga or Vancey given their history with Raz. Also goddamn it he was my fav on character on the Feds side ;v; I went with Zaiga in the end but I tortured myself going through all the deployment lines and made me cry inside. The fact that they paid so much attention to the side characters unlike the first game just blows my mind. Even more so with all the Squad Story missions I've done up to this point. (For the record I only played the 1st and now this VC game) Fantastic character developments all around, one of the best I've seen from a video game or even most other media.

I honestly had a lot of trouble choosing who to send. It didn’t help that their deployment quotes also changed if you deployed them with Raz. I ended up going with Zaiga though.

Godwins felt honourable which is understandable given how he is compared to the rest of the company that is Squad E, seems Millennia or Vancey are the best choices post Squad Story for reasons i won't divulge, kind of surprised they made a few non canon ones as well.

I chose Scott without knowing that the chosen character will die. And I just got yes sir... Btw I love them all. I wish everyone can survive 😢

Every time viola talks I just hear all the other characters she's voiced some died in the same wayish so it hits me in the feels but at the sametime 90% of her characters are badasses cough cough A2 from nier

I chose simon for this mission because I thought he would be the best person to go out blazing but after I got his rusted handaxe , I just regretted it, to be honest, I would've regretted choosing anybody because I like everyone in my squad, I havent played a serious mission with simon, its just sad. Why am I too emotionally attached to side characters

I never thought about it until watching this, but can't you send any of Squad 7 to their deaths? Alicia, Rosie, Largo and Isara lol

spoiler they were gonna kill Raz off why not just give us the Hero potential every turn, I literally only got the potential twice out of 10 retries and once in each game. It would've been so cool to make raz go all out before he died. Also imo Zaiga as a partner is the most fitting one given that zaiga is the closest non-main character to Raz and all his potentials are Raz based

If someday exist a Anime or movie I think the one who go with Raz and sacrife itself will be zaiga

i didn't want to lose any of the characters that i haven't unlocked their squad stories yet but also because i played the game safe and avoided losing anyone. when the popup said the one to accompany raz might not come back, i had to think of who would actually join raz and for me it was ryan. he's the most jaded person out of everyone and the generic vet soldier last stand thing is too perfect for ryan. this is an old video already but for anyone reading this, who and why did you chose that character to join raz?
