That 1911-S is great for the grade and even picky me would want to buy it. Normally with MS63s you'll see hits all over the lettering but not in this case. The strike is good and the luster looks fine. It's even got considerable red for a graded BN coin.

Nice coins, surprised that you didn't know the value of the 1921 Peace dollar since it is such a popular and common coins, roughly $800, especially with a cac sticker. You should join cac, would be neat to see your take on sticker or no sticker. Also with PCGS high certification charges, $20-$30 and up for dealers, not sure how you can afford to send in some of the less expensive coins.

No excuses, but I had a head cold and in the video several times I make reference to not remembering numbers! LOL - Also - CAC is my current least favorite thing in the coin collecting market. I've got a couple videos on it. I plan on making more ''round table discussion'' type videos about the topic.

I would lean to the idea of crossing the c.c. to ngc. However real nice coins

The 1878-CC Morgan looks like what they used to call "semi-prooflike". It definitely has some prooflike surfaces but not as mirror-like as some. The 1921 Peace dollar has what appears to be a flat spot in the center of the obverse. Not quite fully struck. Without that it might have gone up a grade.

I would agree with pcgs on 78cc Morgan, I don't think the obverse is pl. Sorry Ben. Still love your videos!

I would have called that Carson City Morgan dollar proof like way more than that 1902 Morgan😏. Nice coins nonetheless

The fields of the CC were clearly much more reflective even through the toning. I don't know how they can be so off-base grading type coins from the same group of submissions.

Good video. I sent in a 1910-S penny that I received in change 45 years ago. It was like a new penny when I received it. It was obvious that it was out of someone’s collection, so I stuck it away. Recently, I decided it needed to be graded and encapsulated. Very disappointing when you receive it back with NO GRADE, and stating that it was polished. Especially disappointing when you are certain it wasn’t. It has toned through the years to a beautiful color, but never rubbed on. I will never send another coin into PCGS again. NEVER.

I love watching your videos and yes its for educational purposes! The more exposure to the grading field you learn and get better next time. I have 1921 ms64 PCGS and looks like a better grade and I love it. Good luck out there Ben!

I'd send the CC into NGC or something. That thing is definitely PL. What are they thinking? I called the 02 Ms 63. I'd at least try one more time on 78. Good video coin geek!

The obverse of the CC doesn't look PL, but they could have at least gave it a + . Congrats on the Peace - it's about time! Does PCGS or NGC charge for a body bag/not encapsulated?

The 1878cc looks like the obverse wasn’t proof like enough to get the designation, at least from what I can see in the video. The reverse looks a lot more proof like.

I have to agree with pcgs on the cc - the obverse didn't have the fields for the pl . I have a lot of cc's in proof like in the gov holders - that was to only way I bought them - if I can't see myself in the fields - didn't buy them - I believed I paid around $60-75 for all of them and very pleased I did!!

As far as the 1878 CC is concerned, I've seen some 19th century British silver coins with similar toning that got a PL grade attached,but that was NGC.Maybe the toning on it is "covering" the PL,so to speak,but a coin can be PL on one side,but not the other?
@warrenmullett
@warrenmullett 4 года назад
I think the toning on that Morgan obscured the proof like grade ..

I'm not a fan of PCGS. I think they misgrade all the time -- and obviously! I would love someone to prove me wrong. I don't like seeing the bad all the time. If PCGS is as pure as the snow professionally, then I want to honor them as the best graders ever and climb aboard the PCGS bandwagon. But here's what I see: -- I see a 1911-D MS65RB slabbed as B and at least two grades below its value by their own standards on their Coinfacts website and their Photograde website! I also see a red '31-S that looks MS65RD slabbed as MS64RB. After all, what's in it for them if your coin should rate a 65, 66 or higher? Nothing, really! ... I also see two Morgan dollars with consecutive serial numbers whose grades got transposed! I mean anyone can see the reflectivity in the '78-CC -- the coin is a dimple! On the contrary the '02-O lacks the same degree of reflection and has prolific bag marks. The grades got swapped by mistake in my opinion. (more) I hope I am dead wrong. I have a long-standing PCGS Premium membership. I have boxes full of PCGS slabbed coins. And any time I want to feel completely baffled and confused I just pull a few out and start pondering the disparity in grading standards. This month I'll be attending the PCGS shows in Santa Ana and Long Beach, CA -- and I will hope to confront some of their brass regarding their grading guidelines because, frankly, sometimes I wonder if they have any at all!

PCGS gets it wrong more times than most from my experience. They even have wrongly identified coins on their Coinfacts site of which I have brought to their attention and they still have not corrected. I have started a file of incorrectly attributed PCGS certified coins. The list continues to grow. The worst coin was a California fractional BG that PCGS slabbed MS65 when in fact it had 2 holes drilled through it on the top. Not details - MS65!

78CC, I would have gone 62, no PL. Lots of cheek action and many secondary hits. I think the 63 was a gift. The photo just does not look to be PL.

I've never seen a pl or dmpl peace dollar. It must be because of the dye structure?
@jamesgoss1860
@jamesgoss1860 4 года назад
PL/DMPL coins are a result of a freshly polished die. The earliest strikes are the most proof-like, then it degrades as it strikes more coins. After enough strikes, proof-like fields are gone, and die flow lines cause the coin fields to exhibit the cartwheel luster pattern.

Sorry that didn’t come out right Coin geek but anyways what I was trying to say was I sent a 1916 do you stack some hours along with 31 of the coins to I get auctioned and they sent back the 1960 in DC and it was an altered mid Mark and it wasn’t even the same time I sent him we had a big old dent in the back of it it was not the same one and a half pictures and they didn’t even keep their word about when the auction was going to be on my behalf of the Coins it’s not the first badExperience I’ve had PCGS is another one for Steff Nichols and they called him not worth grading 150 of them different Coins not 1 was grading and they were all midstate I don’t know how I can tell you is don’t waste your money don’t do it I’m telling you let your last name is Rockefeller or Morgan we got no chance been given another coin dealers in El Paso Texas have told me the same nightmares I’m sorry I’m just putting it out there because I’m frustrated like you
