Folks have figured out remote audio in every walk of life since 2020 if not before. Jesus this was awful. Just some AirPods connected to their iPad would have solved. Abort and reschedule.

The audio problem is likely on the ATLSpeedWerks' side. The camera used for streaming their video input likely have also been used for audio input. However, the camera is positioned further away seemingly to capture more subjects, so the audio captured is low especially made worse through the garage's reverb. One easy alternative would be to use another phone to join the call only for "audio" and placed close to the speakers. Then make the camera/phone as a "video", so have it muted & silenced (no output volume) but still provide video.

Thanks for this video. It is reassuring to know that PDK's can be repaired and that there is an aftermarket supplying upgraded repair parts. I certainly see an aluminum clutch oil pan in my future! It is understandable that the guests choose to be a little tight lipped about the skills and techniques they developed, since that gives them a competitive edge. The next challenge is identifying local shops around the country that have the skills to perform these repairs. I think many of us would like to know we have a local shop we can turn to if the unexpected were to happen.

A couple comments. First, thank for the choice of topic. I don't have one, but this helps when it's time to decide. Second, by now you know the production quality needs improvement. Get a cameraman at the remote location -- maybe more than one. You need better L-mikes and receivers -- if you're not using Sennheiser, get some. Third, it's ok with link up with a remote site, but you need a solid wifi and Wan circuit. If you can't hold a minimum 10 MB/sec both directions, fix it. Fourth, if you're not using one, you should get a console operator to adjust volumes and video rates on the fly, so the viewer doesn't have to constantly adjust between the local and remote sites. Good luck.

How do you square their advice with that given by Pedro in the PCA Tech Q&A? 11/01/2021: "Unless you are having issues, follow your manual's recommended schedule. There's no reason to change fluid at 40K or 60K miles." Pedro 06/17/2022: "I wouldn't open it till 90K miles. And yes, I would replace the filter when replacing." Pedro 07/04/2022: "At 50,000 it's still soon for a transmission flush. If it's working properly, wait until the recommended service schedule: At 60,000 miles, change the PDK clutch oil At 120,000 miles, change the PDK transmission oil" Pedro

If most of the failures are with sensors / electronics, why the emphasis on owners being more aggressive with maintenance (fluid / filter changes)?
@rkskidz
@rkskidz Год назад
The shift fork position sensors(and many other sensors) are located inside of the transmission. Older, broken down fluid doesn’t manage its temperature as well as it did when new. Higher temps have a possibility of shortening the life of the sensors. Therefore giving reason to shorten those intervals to possibly extend sensor life

I really enjoy Tech Tactics....usually. Despite the audio issues (which I read in the comments you are acutely aware of the issue) these guys were just not as informative, helpful and as engaging as I had hoped for. They did not come across as being very interested in truly "teaching". They might be very good at what they do (repairs, diagnosing, etc), but this session just didn't work for me. I would have enjoyed some time spent stepping us through a more thorough sequencing and description of the PDK shift processes - valve actuation followed by which shaft actuates (with animation). The common failure discussion was helpful, but I was looking for more of the "Tech"nical content. Let's follow the Kaizen way and keep striving for improvement.

Such a great topic to cover! Lots of misinformation and conjecture being generally propagated on the web and elsewhere. This video is a very good initial step - however it would have been more valuable if the presenters in Atlanta were better prepared. Basic audio / communication issues were really annoying and should not have happened. I'm sure that the Atlanta Speedworks shop can do some good work, the presenters there did not instill much confidence with their answers to some very good questions. Tentative responses - looking at each other when questions were asked. Again, not confidence building.

Sure, it's great that Porsche replaces a PDK under warranty. But if they make crap, the owner should not be made to pay 25 to 35k for a transmission out of warranty, especially if it has less than 100k!!! That's absolute bullshit!! It's price gouging. Alot of these frigging cars aren't even worth 30k! These Germans have to stop being such cheap asses! Build quality and back up your work!!no reason these transmissions should be failing with less than 150k miles unless abused. AND there is no reason these transmissions should cost that much to replace!!! What are they made of? Gold and diamonds? Even the experts are saying that these transmissions are failing with no rhyme or reason! It's scary to hear that people that weekend drive with low.miles are experiencing failures! That's disgusting!!!! Come on Porsche! Once my extended warranty is out, I'm done with Porsche!! American car companies have had issues with quality but at least it's not that expensive to fix. Most V series Cadillacs last if you maintain them but it's not bad to fix if they break. There is no reason a Porsche tranny should fail if being serviced properly.

NOT Rebuilding these Transmissions is Very Costly to the Customers the Shops Lose that Work of Rebuilding them and the Cost of Carbon in the Atmosphere for Shipping the Transmission all over the World and the Cost of Shipping a New one back too whoever is doing the Replacement and that is Really Not Needed and Puts more Carbon in the Atmosphere. OK I get if a Transmission Tech Don't Rebuild them Just Right Major Bad things can happen but that's how ALL Transmissions and Everything that makes your Car or Truck Work. And I Totally Get you need Special Training and Special Tools too Even Get Started Braking down any Transmission but it would be more cost-effective and Bring the Cost of Keeping your Car in Working order down. and I am Not Very impressed with how Porsche Designed and how they want too control these Cars and Who Gets too Work on them buy Limiting and making how and Who Rebuilds there Cars Transmission and I would bet it's not just the Transmissions that Porsche wants there Dealers, Tech's and any Work done on a Porsche too be them Solely I have a Big Problem with this for if you Bought and payed for your Porsche in Full you the owner should be able too have Whoever you want work on your Car or SUV or Truck You Shouldn't have too bring it back too the dealer for Every Little Thing. this Transmission by Blending The turbomatic or a Turbo-Hydramatic or Turbo Hydra-Matic and a Manual. I do Believe I seen something like this in the 60's on I remember my Father having a Car that was a manual and a Automatic in one there was a Clutch and if you put the Car in 4th Gear you could Stop without pushing in the Couch and takeoff without pushing in the Clutch and it would Go through the Automatic Gears and it had a Manual Clutch 4 Manual Gears and Automatic Clutches and Automatic torque converter and I want too say it was a late 50's Car could have been one of the 57 Chevys Dad owned Mom had her own 57 Chevy I don't think it was hers 57 Chevy that did that so long ago hard too Remember.
