Looks like a very thoughtfully designed and versatile compact kit that should travel well and not take up much space. SNOMs aside, things like the reasonable shell dimensions (even the 10" RT seems to have a fairly wide tuning range), DW hardware appointments, the custom lift, the bonus bass drum mount clamp eg to mount a ride cymbal without needing a full stand show at least on the design level an attention to detail. Looks like a seriously cool 4 piece kit.

I wish TAMA would make another batch of their Tama Neo Mod series with the 20x10 kick, 12 tom and 16 floor. Maybe the Snom would also work on a 16 floor. A well known drummer in Switzerland Julian Sartorius plays a HUUUUGE floor/snom.. of course it’s a sound for a very specific application. So the snom is really optional for me. Or does anyone have good insight on the sound of a 18 inch vs 20 inch? On a big stage you can always EQ it to make it big, in the studio the room mic lets you know fast that it is a smaller kick…

If Pdp had add-on idea like Sonor does with AQ2 series I would be interested. However, my first choice compact kit is AQ2. Mix n match sizing to cover any gig type.

Cool kit but price wise, I prefer Yamaha equivalent since it's one of the repute brand and my fandom.

Beautiful looking kit and seems quite versatile considering the sizes. Shame it's priced so high compared to other kits of similar dimensions. Is it worth the extra 300 or so EUR ?

How to compare this kit to: PDP Daru Jones New Yorker TAMA club jam kit Pearl Midtown Gretch Catalina club kit ?! thanks to anyone who can share some insights into quality difference and the feel of playing difference! Are they all China low-quality kits or how to understand each? Thanks to anyone who can help advise between these?

This PDP kit has basically the same sizes as the Tama, but with better shells and hardware plus snoms, but Tama is cheaper. The Pearl has a 16 bass drum and poplar shells with no snoms but is cheap. I'm not familiar with the Catalina. There is also the regular PDP New Yorker that is cheaper bc it has poplar shells and 16 bass, it's similar to the pearl kit. Ludwig Breakbeats are also similar to pearl and the 16" new yorker. If you have more money to burn I suggest the DW mini pro kit. Its available with 16 or 18 kick, maple shells, better hardware, but its pricey at 1500. Also Sonor AQ2 safari is another high-end mini kit similar to the DW mini pro. Sonor makes cheaper versions with poplar shells and different sizes as well. Yamaha stage custom hip is a good mid priced kit with a shallow 20" kick, birch shells, and a snom. It really comes down to how much you want to spend as well as what size kick and shell material you want. Edit: the Catalina Club I wouldn't consider a compact kit, its a traditional bop kit. 18 kick with full size 12 and 14 toms, mahogany shells with a medium-high price tag. Forgot about the original Daru Jones kit, which is basically the same as the djny2, but without snoms, unsure what the shells were

@@johnnybgoode2333 I see, thanks! the stores seems to care to tell you the details that actually change the sound and character of the drums.. the store just wanted to sell me Tama.. looked them up and they are the direct dealer of Tama of course, so they probably have a lower cost to take them in than something rare like the new yorker Daru Jones 2.... Catalina seem to have the longest reputation to be good and last.. but as you mentioned, I see now that they are too large to bring around and have in a small apartment perhaps.... Not sure what to choose, as I also have had the idea to get the Evans Sensory Hybrid kit of three sensors to connect a drum kit those are also as expensive as most acoustic kit...but I want the kit to be good so it works fine on its' own as well. thanks for getting back!

Made in China? No, thanks! Hard pass on this kit. Tama and Sonor have much better small kit offerings.

The Tama and Sonor compact kits are both made in china unless you’re talking about the extremely expensive made in Germany Sonor stuff
