I love Daru’s creativity over his kit! Not to mention he is a super nice guy, and humble musician. Wish I could just say casually, “When I play with Jack...” haha

Super creative and interesting. Not a big fan of reaching a foot to hit a Tom or cymbal but definitely original. It works for him and he’s a pro. That’s the beauty of this instrument.

As a digital composer, good live drumming is one of those things I always look at and think "if only..." Having someone who fixate on the beat and feel of every moment makes a huge difference in any song.

First heard Daru’s work on my guy Blackmilk “ album of the year” and I had no clue who he was... fast forward to mid 2020 I seen a video and was like that snare sounds so familiar and went digging and low and behold he’s the beat smith behind the sound I hope to share in creation with one day. Several months later I bought my kit and am working on the basics and tunings. I hope to come close to the talent this man holds. Peace bro, safe and happy holidays to all!

I mean in hip-hop drumming that kinda the vibe we shoot for, on time but slightly not.
@thaloniaswjonn
@thaloniaswjonn 3 года назад
it’s so as to mimic an unquantized drum machine or an out of time sample. its slightly “off the grid” if that makes sense. it sounds super cool with hip hop as rappers oftentimes ride a little behind or ahead of the beat and the juxtaposition of two “out of time” sounds is super tasty, kinda like the more “dissonant” chords of jazz pianists like thelonious monk but in a more rhythmic context. it’s definitely unique, and i can understand why it’s off putting to some people but i personally love it lol.

@punk_acero
@punk_acero 3 года назад
@@rezzie17 so he priored the look before the natural anatomic movement to drumming?
@RA2Music
@RA2Music 3 года назад
In many ways yes. He says as much in the beginning of the interview. But ultimately if the set up didn’t work for him, I’m sure he would not have kept using it. I’m sure it would be a challenge for me to play this configuration, but it’s not for me and that is it’s beauty. The lesson here is find your own path to distinctiveness.
@punk_acero
@punk_acero 3 года назад
@@RA2Music I think that the look for a setup is subjective, you can do whatever you want aesthetically. But sacrifice the ergonometric movement of the hand is more objective. And only seeing that toms, it hurt my eyes. Sorry I cant understand him, just to call the attention is not enough
