Today we will take a look at the PDR tools, more specifically PDR Lights and how to see the dents. If we have never meet my name is Zan and Welcome to my RU-vid channel. Make sure you subscribe for more PDR related content.
When people ask me what is the most important thing when learning or doing dent repair I show them a dent and ask them if they see it.
Then I tell them to cover their eyes and ask the same question again.
When you do this eye covering thing you realise that if you can not see the dent, you can not repair the dent!
So if the most important thing is seeing the dent you better have everyhing as it should be in that aspect of PDR
In this video we will be diving in to PDR Tools, more specifically PDR lights!

I just bought the Stuckey xl with a new stand and the never loose mount. Been a dealer tech for 24 years and always used the small 19 inch stuckey light. The built in battery is why I went with it. Used it on a light hail damaged hood the day after I got it and only moved the light twice. Works great. I hope it’s the last hail light I ever buy. Well worth the price. Saves a lot of time

What the average person doesn't know is Zan has competed and finished 1st in international competitions for dent repair against the best in the world. This is like a free master class. If you're serious about learning PDR having a in person 'over the shoulder' trainer can improve your speed and learning cure 10x vs 'learning it yourself'.. Also if you're learning DIY and don't have a 'connection' to PDR you should expect 1-2-3 years of working rock lot used cars places to finish your training. Having a in person trainer could make this more like 3 months. Finally let your trainer pick your tools to buy to learn.

I never liked the lines. I used a light with a yellow plastic board behind it. The yellow color really makes the tool's position easy to see.

Hi, I'm an production engineer for a place that builds the chasis parts that you guys are removing dents from. We are having some trouble finding dents within our production process, and I was watching your video on lights to help identify them before we paint them. I can't afford to buy $600-$1000 lights for 30+ production lines, so I went with a cheaper USB model I found on Amazon for now. Could you tell me what are the major differences between the high end models in your video vs the USB powered lamps? Is it mainly a brightness/lumens difference? Also do you have any advice on how to angle the light so you can see the dents better? Appreciate any help, great video.
@vidicz
@vidicz 3 года назад
Hi. I would say the difference is the brightness, how many LEDs per meter, lens quality that gives better details in the reflection and also less painful for the eyes. That’s my observation. If you only need to independently the dents maybe a line board would be a good and cheap solution? Lines shows dents really nice but are not my choice when it comes to fixing them. Write: PDR Foldable reflector board in amazon.
@allenwilson6585
@allenwilson6585 2 года назад
or get one of those round pop open line boards for estimating for 20 bucks on amazon.
@mytrigger5613
@mytrigger5613 6 дней назад
Absolutely not! As a photographer, who pays upwards for photo quality lights and sturdy stands, i cannot justify spending more than i spend on my studio equipment for 'lines' to illuminate dents. With very little effort and imagination there are several materials you can create your own to cover an existing light box. Granted i already have the stands and light boxes so i would just need to focus on making a bounce card or a see through to some extent. Also, I'm not trying to build a professional shop just want to do a little DIY project and bust out some dents on my car

Hi Zan, I just watched the video. How would you compare the fade of the stuckey and elimadent small lights?
@vidicz
@vidicz 4 года назад
How would you use the lights? The fade is similar but you have an option to change the fade with the elimadent. Elimadent is much bigger then stuckey. Depends on what you plan to use it. If you want to use it as your sole light for doing quick door dings then I would go with elimadent for sure. It has automatic suction and its bigger so easier to cover more metal. If you need it for help with hail then I would go stuckey. Smaller and easier to quick use it on bigger hail dents
@bjorn6688
@bjorn6688 4 года назад
@@vidicz I hardly use a small light, but use it more for help with a hail dent close by, so I don't have to move my normal light. I will go with the stuckey then, because it's very fast and mobile. Thanks for the help.

@@greezer9716 You can do a good job with lines...it's completly different then fog though. A good way to explain the difference is when you are fixing with lines, you are fixing lines, but when you are fixing with fog you are fixing metal.

@@vidicz I agree, it is very expensive to have all brands of light. I myself bought lights of different brands, tested them and then resold them. But such a scheme is not profitable, and keeping all brands is expensive financially and in terms of space, because the rent is not cheap.
