CAMPING IN THE WOODS WITH A FIRE
Testing out the Fjallraven Kajka 35 backpack. It’s definitely high quality, robust and built to last like all the Fjallraven gear. I love this one in Blue but it would be an awesome bushcraft backpack in the green or black to chuck around the woods. I look forward to testing it on a mountain.

On yer bike pal! I didn’t receive a penny for a product placement and I’ve lived off less than £12k a year for the past 3 years to try make RU-vid work for me. Currently, I don’t have a penny to scratch my arse with, in fact I’m in my overdraft. Out of my 120 videos I’ve made, 63 have made less than £100 and as I put one out weekly, that’s my wage. Then I have to take off fuel to get there and fuel and food to cook, 2 days of editing and then endless hours replying to comments. On many videos I have’t even made a pound an hour. So either have some respect for how much time and effort it takes for me to make my videos to this quality (that you watch for free) or jog on boyo. All love and happiness Al

I use the larger Fjaelraven Kajka 65L (black version). The larger versions 65/75/85/100L have more pockets and volume options than the smallest Kajka shown in the video. It's an awesome backpack and extremely comfortable for carrying light or heavy loads long distances without fatigue; especially when you properly adjust the frame to fit your particular body type. I use it year-round, but it comes into its own during winter when I'm hiking in the forests or trekking in the mountains, carrying bulkier cold-weather gear.

We travel with you on your adventures and love the wonderful portraits of England, Wales and Scotland. Walking with you reminds me of my childhood in Cheshire where my brother and I would wander through the countryside every weekend looking for wild adventures in the little woods and pathways, a bit like you. These days Sue and I live on a modest property near Bega on the south coast of Australia. You bring a wonderful warm and engaging warmth into our lives and this latest excerpt is as dazzling and entertaining as all the others. We know you better than some of our friends. Every night now we lay the lug. In the morning we welcome the flowers. And our four little dogs run alongside Blue across the English fields and hills.

Bushman, Thanks for yet another great video. I like that you comment on some of the gear that you use. Real world use, not behind a counter. So, for heavier bigger hauls, I have a Kajka 65L, and it's very well thought out. There are some differences to it's new smaller sibling. For example because it's bigger size, it's got two thin steel rods along the edges of the front lid, which is zipped both sides individually and a large patch of velcro on top. They are there for auto compression and that the pack stays flat, but bulged out in one spot for example. Then if something should happen to the eco birch wood pieces, you can use a steel rod for emergency, and still carry as comfortable. Great. Then it's got the dry clothes/towel/shoes/wat not in the bottom. I used it a few times. Not overly efficient, but it works. The absolutely great thing about the straps that you didn't mention is, that they are very smart made. Some have male, some female clips, so they can snap together both on the sides, and on the front, both horizontal and criss cross. Now that enhances your ability to carry skies, big stuff and that not. I've never seen it on any other backpack. It's heavy, really heavy, but you will be rewarded for comfort over long distances. Your can also detach the brain as you said, and clip it into the shoulderstraps clips, so it sits in front of you as a chest brain, easy peasy with a jacket, snacks and camera etc. My Kajka is black, because on longer trips, I want to stay a bit unseen, but anyway the UN blue is great for visibility in mountains. I have other packs for that. In my Kajka 65L I can carry a 3p TNF VE-25, extra stakes, extra poles for the harshest of storms, my biggest -57C (-40 sleeping comfortable) sleeping bag, Down jacket, down trousers, my isolated -30 down sleeping pad, stove, emergency gear, torch, rope knife, rope, some rope gear, food, water and then it's really stuffed. Over mountains and through deserts as well as hauling gear on to plane for long journeys. I do want to try a Mountain Equipment Tupilak 50-75L 1.040 gram for same use, and we'll see if it holds up. Just to try. For group use, I have a Geodome 4. Great, even is high winds, but we split weightbetween us. I use my really old Fjällräven Akka Shape R/S2 for simple trips. Great and storm proof so far. Your one man tent looks interesting to me as a Summer thing. That will do for sure. This new little one looks fine and I may get it for smaller trips. Though I tend to use a lighter one. I have never worn out a backpack, though my old Lowe Alpine 65-10L lost all it's rubber material coating inside, and became sticky, hence I bought my Kajka some years ago. I use their simple and smaller Bergtagen packs for mountains and even dailys, it's that tough. Your dog is absolutely adorable as usual. Great video, I hope you don't mind me describing the extra smart functions on the Kajka. It's really brilliant. Thanks for sharing. Your should have 1.000.000 subscribers+. Kind regards.

I can’t believe I missed this! I always show the gear being used and tested properly and then you’ll trust my words more than the ‘behind the counter’ lot. No gear is perfect and very individual but hopefully I can help people not to make mistakes buying completely wrong gear and wasting money👍

Someone devoted a lot of time & effort to create tall those wood piles. I suspect a chain saw was used, definitely not an axe. 2:30 those are tall, skinny trees with no bark. Any idea which variety of tree? 21:12 Have you ever eaten a meal without broccoli? Fresh home grown tomatoes are, indeed, so much tastier than store bought tomatoes. I would have preferred fresh potatoes rather than the canned spuds. I'm going to have to get me a couple packages of that Peppercorn sauce. 29:41 there you are gorging yourself with a meal & Blue is still licking that plastic wrap. tsk, tsk 31:09 finally, some real dog food for Blue 37:40 Blues knows when to get out of the way as you begin to break camp 39:58 Truly a refreshing dip. Thank you, Allen & Blue for sharing such an entertaining real-life outdoor adventure. Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada U.S.A.💜💚❤

Had to lengthen an old Karrimor bag because the back length was too short like you mentioned. Added some additional tubing and sewed in a tube length of cloth. Made it much better. Karrimor Sales said it was not possible but fortunately the Karrimor Technical team sent me the extra cloth and lightweight metal tubing for nothing ! It wouldnt happen these days mind you.

Do you worry about ticks in the woods Al ?
@Globetrotter-1
@Globetrotter-1 Год назад
Ticks are really not a problem anywhere in UK or in fact world, if you have a decent immune system and eat plenty of raw 🧄 garlic and cashews in your weekly diet. I am often sleeping in highly infested tick territory and they are not really the danger that scaremongering types seem to constantly hype. It is also not best to follow textbook advice such as wearing long sleeve clothing, or tucking socks into boots and all that nonsense. I often trek through dense forests and undergrowth wearing only shorts. The advantage of bare skin is that you can immediately feel ticks crawling on you, so can quickly flick them off prior to any bites. In fact they normally will not bite, but merely fall off due to you sweating out thr garlic 🧄 through pores. Also no need for mozzie sprays or tick repellents, which I stopped using many decades ago. The cashews also help avoid any problems with Lyme disease.

@@BUSHMANandBLUE France is pretty horrendous for deer ticks, often hundreds in and around the bivvy or tent. Denmark can be bad for sheep ticks on the marshy lowland islands. But yes, dogs are more often the host of ticks compared to humans.

@@Globetrotter-1you do what you like but don't tell other people what to do, you need a 4 weeks course off antibiotics after testing positive for Lyme's disease otherwise you can get severe symptoms, including heart problems, arthritis and nerve damage, just because you didn't get it doesn't mean everyone is so lucky, and cashew nuts do sod all against tick bites.

Fjallraven make some good products, I’ve got quite a few things from them, Their tents are quite good, recently they pissed me off over a warranty issue on a tent, I spoke to them directly in Sweden, maybe it was the customer service rep that was rubbish, but all she did is copy and past some UK consumer law, not even interested on what the fault was, even though I sent them images & a video clip, that was it for me, never buy anything from them again, next tent will be a Hilliberg & I’ll stick to my go to companies that actually care about their customers, like Montane, Rab & Osprey. Great video as usual though Al, Dunno how you manage with all those midges or whatever they were! 😅

@@BUSHMANandBLUE definitely, When an organisation leaves you feeling neglected & not looked after, especially after spending large amounts of money with them, it really does your head in, I’m very principle oriented, once a company does that, I’ll never buy from them again, even if they have gear I really need/want.

Same goes for The North Face tents. Old ones better than the present day ones. By a mile. I treat mine incl. pole elastics and guy lines once every year, and inspect them very carefully. and never have problems, except the foam pads and windows that crack and turns into rubbish. SO I cut new foam pads myself and use a bit of a racing sailing boat sail window for the tent. Good for storms and UV. Works perfect. They just refer me to that some of their full covering warranties is only valid for North Americas... Pah... Kind regards.
