Indian Peafowl (Pavo cristatus)
The national bird of India and also a common bird in Srilanka has a beautiful display (dance) to attract females. Most of the locals believe that the Peacock drops its tears or sperms on the ground and peahens eat them to get pregnant. If someone strongly believes this myth show them this video.
Of course, they mate. Females choose mates with good genes, males with more exaggerated secondary sexual characteristics, such as bigger, brighter peacock trains, tend to have better genes in the peahen's eyes. These better genes directly benefit her offspring, as well as her fitness and reproductive success.
This footage was filmed in Yala Nationa park, Sri Lanka of a complete courtship display followed by mating at last which is rare to see.
