Join day hiking peak baggers for more than 14 miles and 11 hours as we recreate on the Kyburz Flat Interpretive Trail and hike to the top of Sardine Peak, Land Peak and Sardine Point on the Tahoe National Forest. Located in California off Highway 89 between Sierraville and Truckee, this area has tons of history from Native American rock carvings to a stagecoach stop, to a fire lookout tower built before World War II. We continue this series by learning more about snowshoeing, pooping in the backcountry, leave no trace principles, what to pack, and reasons why trees are marked. UPDATE: From the Tahoe National Forest staff, "That is an old subdivision boundary for a timber sale or service contract. Two tags faced into the subdivision and two other tags would be placed on facing along the line of boundary on the same tree. We no longer use tags for boundary designation. All our current boundaries use tree marking tracer paint."
