My issue with PD bags is they are very sleek yet less useful than other more "normal" bags. I prefer Tenba or Lowepro (depending on the specific models of course). Even something like the Format BP-150 can fit a lot in a very small backpack where PD seem to not fit much or make it very hard to deal with. And i HATE the non mesh side pockets which sacrifice usability for looks. Sure, it is nice looking and if you can fit your things, then its hard to match its looks but for usability, I pass on them. Love their straps though!
@Adventuregrapher
@Adventuregrapher 5 лет назад
Thanks for dropping a comment :) Like I said in the video, using the PD bags does take some time to setup optimally for your gear and to learn using them efficiently so I agree that they can be "hard to deal with". I personally have been even surprised how much stuff I can fit inside these bags especially if I organize them thoughtfully. Then again, I can also see situations in which a more "regular" bag has some advantages. For example, some lenses/objects are a bit too big or too small to perfectly fit the divider "slots" in the Everyday Backpack which can result in some wasted space. I don't fully understand the point about the side pockets though: since the side pockets are still a bit flexible (they have stretchy straps that allow the pockets to expand) what would be the main benefits of using mesh? Maybe mesh would be even more flexible and stretchy but that could also make the pockets less durable.. I guess it all mostly depends on your specific needs :)

Fellow Finn! Nice review! I just bought the v1 30L bag, haven't gotten it yet, but am looking forward to it. I've been to the flagship store in SF checking out the PD Tripod I got during the Kickstarter campaign. Tiny little shop. Love that tripod! I got this bag mainly to allow me to carry the tripod in a side pocket, and to have room for my Weebill S gimbal plus all my other stuff, like 2 camera, three (so far) lenses (including a Sigma 14-24 Art Lens and a Canon 70-200 zoom) and my Mavic 2 Pro, as well as some action cams and various accessories. 30L will be necessary, and I'm 6'1" so it'll fit nicely.
@Adventuregrapher
@Adventuregrapher 4 года назад
Always glad to see some Finns in the comments! I'm also waiting for the tripod, I should be actually getting it tomorrow! So a review on that coming up real soon. Your gear setup sounds very similar to mine actually (Also got the Weebill, Mavic 2 Pro and a bunch of action cams), so I'm sure you will be happy with the 30L. The tripod should help making the whole setup even more sleek! Kiitokset kommentista :)

Great review, as was your PD strap review. I recently bought the 20L to take to Germany with my Sony a6300 and acouple of lenses. I want to use it as my "personal item" with a carry-on rolling bag. The PD bag seems to be a few cm thicker than the allowed dimension for a personal item, and its form seems pretty stiff with all the dividers installed. Have you carried the 20L bag on an airplane, and did you have any trouble putting it under the seat?
@Adventuregrapher
@Adventuregrapher 5 лет назад
Hi, the 20L fits pretty well under an airplane seat and especially on short flights I almost never put it in the overhead storage. At least once I've also had a roller bag as a carry-on in addition to the backpack and didn't have any problems. But it is indeed a bit large to pass as an "small personal item" so can't promise you will get away with it every time. Thanks for a great question, I hope this helped :)

Do you think you could fit a pair of shoes, a set of gym clothes as well as a towel and your mirrorless camera with a lens in this?
@Adventuregrapher
@Adventuregrapher 4 года назад
In the 30L version you can, I'm sure because I have done it myself. The 20L might be a bit too tight but probably possible at least if you have a smallish towel :D. However, this is definitely not an optimal gym bag. For a great gym bag that can also carry a camera, take a look at the 35L Travel Duffel that I have reviewed in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-drI-vI7ftL8.html

I know the intended use of this bag is for camera equipment but how would this bag work for the average college student with heavy text books in the compartment shelves?
@Adventuregrapher
@Adventuregrapher 5 лет назад
It would work but it´s not optimal and it´s also quite expensive for just college use. I would put the books in the top part of the main compartment (on top of all the dividers) and use the smaller compartments for other stuff you might carry around. Or you could take out all or some of the dividers/sheves to make room for some bigger books. Then again, that will limit the functionality of the bags. So if you are willing to pay the price, you can definitely make it work but there might be even better options for books in the market. Here are a few pictures of the 20L bag with some books in it: www.dropbox.com/sh/3zq4ans9ot3vwhl/AAC_TVo9dxlCecYuMZn6mgYga?dl=0

Thank you! I can fit the Sony 100-400 GM in the bag even with a camera body attached. Even longer lenses tend to also be thicker so the 100-400 is the biggest I would recommend. Hope this helps :)

Please read, major compliments ahead ~~ Because of the cost, I just cannot seem to make up my mind on if the bag will work. I've watched a dozen reviews, and looked through pages of google images, and just can't decide. At this point, I think I'll turn to reddit with a photo of everything I need in it and just ask "will it work." I love my sling 5L, but I've come to want a bag that holds all my M43 camera gear/accessories AND my daily stuff. HOWEVER, my friend, this is by far the best review I've ever seen on this bag. I love the humor, I love the OBJECTIVE mindset (very rare) you are able to keep, and I love that you actually try stuffing plenty of different things it in, even going so far as to note what technically works, but what is actually ideal. Such as the 13" versus bigger laptops. I love this review, I rarely comment on anything, and I must say I hope you keep it up. Please never stop staying objective, it shows in the video and matters. Your little flares of humor, like the prehistoric laptop, were wonderful additions as well. I still haven't made up my mind, but I'm closer to my answer. Thank you and you have a new subscriber.

@@Adventuregrapher Hey thank you for the reply! I really appreciate it. Here's a link to all my stuff laid out. Ideally I'd like to not have to cram it in, have some general room to spare if I need to toss a notebook or something in. One other question I can't seem to find addressed, so maybe that means it's just not a problem. But, I am concerned about my daily items (so, topmost large section of the bag opened from the mag latch, not the quick access zipper items).. I'm worried that they could or would fall out when the side zipper is opened to grab my camera gear or something, since there's no separation between the compartments. I wish there was like a velcro clothy material you could sorta seal that section away with when you get the flex fold where you want it to be. What do you think of this concern? preview.redd.it/ql3vnc6dipc31.jpg?width=640&crop=smart&auto=webp&s=82c99200708d8f4999fbba7e00ac40198bbc45f5

Great bag, but of no use for me without a proper waist strap. Nobody wants to have shoulder ach after a few hours in the city.
@Adventuregrapher
@Adventuregrapher 5 лет назад
Well, at least it has a waist strap unlike most other backpacks that are meant for everyday use. I actually like that it is not much heftier since that's what makes it possible to stow it away while it's not needed. For travel a better waist strap would definitely be a good feature but for literal everyday use I think this is a perfect solution since most days I don't need a waist strap at all. And I'm using the 20L bag basically every single day :) While I'm traveling, or using the bag fully packed, I find the included waist strap to still be pretty usable even though it's not perfect. But that depends on your specific needs and if you absolutely need a sturdy waist belt, then I understand this is not the optimal bag for you :)

Is it stupid of me to own the 10L sling and the 15" messenger? To be fair, I got the sling first and really like it a lot, then I found the messenger with a deep discount. They feel too similar in terms of how much they can carry. I feel like a dumbass.
@Adventuregrapher
@Adventuregrapher 4 года назад
Hi, not stupid at all, especially with a good discount! They might have similar capacity but what I recommend doing is to have a more specific and specialized use case for each bag. For example, the Messenger could be your daily office bag with a laptop and work documents etc while the Sling is for the camera/drone/tech. Obviously I don't know about your specific needs so all of this depends on your personal daily routines and the gear you have. But this approach has helped me a lot and I usually have several bags already packed with specific gear so I can just quickly grab my film-making kit that is on one bag or my photography gear or daily essentials depending on what I happen to need. No need to feel like a dumbass :)

I have the 30L v2, my set up is sony a7riii with 3 lenses, peak design travel tripod, the rest is batterys sd cards etc i try to keep things simple. Im thinking the 30L is overkill for what i need, should i swap for the 20L which will be better for days out / hiking etc?
@Adventuregrapher
@Adventuregrapher 4 года назад
Your setup sounds very similar to my own daily photography kit. A7RIII with 3 lenses, the tripod and small accessories fit easily in my 20L everyday backpack and I use it 95% of the time instead of the 30L. So maybe if you are able to sell your 30L and get the 20L with that money, that might be worth it. But the 30L is also a very nice and similar bag in itself, so I wouldn't spend too much money just to swap it for the 20L. If you are doing longer hikes often, then I would actually recommend a dedicated hiking camera bag, I'm personally using F-Stop bags for that :) Hope this helps!

Might be a strange question. Currently my main travel bag is an Osprey porter 30 and I use just an old school bag flattened down and laid in the bag but its not the greatest daypack and I keep my camera in a separate lowpro bag in the top of the osprey or stuffed in the "daypack." SO the question is, will the Peak design bag collapse or flatten down so be able to go into another bag temporarily for a say a flight? I try to stick to having carry on only and having a good day pack that can carry a camera without its own separate bag inside is tough. Any suggestions would be great too! Thanks!
@Adventuregrapher
@Adventuregrapher 4 года назад
Hi Rob, the Everyday Backpack can be collapsed and made fairly flat but it will still take quite a bit of space since the materials are not very thin. I don't think it would make sense to try stuffing the backpack inside the Osprey since even if it might fit, it would simply eat most if not all space in that other bag. You could, however, quite easily pack it inside your bigger check-in luggage. But I guess that's not an option since you said you try to go carry on only. You might want to take a look at the Peak Design Travel Line: you could use the Travel Backpack as your main bag and a camera cube for your camera and as a "daypack" :) Hope this helps!

I usually Carrie the following stuff HP 15” laptop, work shirt, trousers, 3 Tupperware boxes with my lunch and snacks in them and other bits and bobs. Also in the spring and summer I will carry my camera and 2 lenses Olympus em1x, 300 f4 pro and the 12-40 pro or would you recommend the 30 L instead your advice would be highly appreciated.

@@wayneemery5709 there are some reviewers that think the straps are a bit uncomfortable but for me they have never been an issue unless the bag is packed full of heavier stuff. Clothes and lunch boxes take some space but are not really that heavy so I think you will be fine :) Let me know when you have it, looking forward to hearing how it works for you!

@@Adventuregrapher hi mate I now have the 30l this only just fits all my stuff for commuting a bit better when I haven’t got my camera in there. The Olympus em1x and 300mm f4 is a beast and this is a mirrorless setup 😂

Big con : the bag too heavy 1.8Kg to 2.kg. Gregory packs weigh 1 Kg and can cary 50L. Also need quick access compartment on the top. And if users complain on the shoulder straps how about improving them.not rocket science. Too much money for such a heavy backpack with so so back system.

Hi Josie, like I said this bag is not an ideal hiking bag or for hauling lots of gear for a longer periods of time. For everyday use I personally don't consider the weight a big problem but I understand that for some people that might be an issue. You are right about the shoulder straps though, that's something they could and should improve in the future because many people are not happy with them. I also totally agree on the need for a quick access compartment on top of the bag! So it's definitely not a perfect bag and for specific uses there are many great alternatives. For everyday use the Peak Design is so far my favourite :) Thanks for your input!

Great review - thanks! Quick question, which jacket are you wearing at 0:20?
@Adventuregrapher
@Adventuregrapher 4 года назад
Hi Ben, thanks a lot for your comment! The jacket is from Luhta (can't find the exact model), which is a Finnish brand so might be a bit harder to find outside of Finland even though at least Amazon is selling some of their stuff.

Hi! Amazing In Depth review! Very informative. I’m aiming to buy the 20L version but I’m not really sure if my laptop would fit. I have the 15 inch HP Spectre x360. I looked at the measurements and I think it would, but I don’t know if I can fit an iPad Pro 9.7” in the same section as well. The 30L would be too big for the stuff I carry with me. Do you think the 15 inch HP would fit in the laptop sleeve of the 20L? and still leave room for something else?
@Adventuregrapher
@Adventuregrapher 4 года назад
Hi Dwayne, I have the smaller Spectre and it fits with room to spare. So the 15 incher should fit and there might even be enough space for the iPad after that. So I'm 100% sure but I'm fairly certain those would fit even though it might be a bit tight fit :) Hope this helps!

Hi! This is a very nice review! The everyday backpack v2 has let me down so bad... I'm looking to buy a v1 now. I don't know if you have a weebill s (or weebill lab), but if you do, does it fit in the 20l? I only have one small camera body and 3 lenses, also I love the tan colour, so I don't think I'll consider the 30l.
@Adventuregrapher
@Adventuregrapher 4 года назад
Hi Kris, I actually have the Weebill Lab and it fits in the 20L quite nicely :) Please let me know what your biggest issues with the Everyday V2 are? To me it seems pretty nice even though I don't have a need to replace my V1.
@kriszhli
@kriszhli 4 года назад
Adventuregrapher Oh that’s nice to know! And maybe I put it wrong, I don’t have any “issues” with the v2, just that it seams like a lazy upgrade, and there’s no reason to spend extra 80 dollars on v2 over v1(Black Friday price on PD site). Also, I finally decided to get the wandrd since my friend came to my place a couple days ago with the everyday backpack 30l on and has informed me a lot of the down sides of it, such as 1. the squeaking sound the rotating axis of the shoulder strap makes when walking with the bag loaded, and 2. the the fabric on the bottom back padding of his bag has already worn out that I could see the material inside. And finally 3. The bag is not symmetrical if you look closely :)). Maybe it was just his bag but that made me skeptical so I’ll probably wait for the next generation.

Thanks for the review, one question, the video has been made with 20 or 30 litre one? Many thanks

Both :) The brown one is the 20 liter version and the grey one is the 30 liter version! Thanks for commenting :)

It should be forbidden in presentations -or testing videos) to manipulate such bags whenever it is not extensivally weighed or otherwise very full. Just stupid. Like movies where actors carry lots (or too little) luggage weighing nothing,, uselessly empty. It's insulting. Suggestions mentionning size and approprietness in relation to gender generalisation is also very doubtfull. But I find very good and compelling the demonstration how dangerous it is to easely pick up the bag without have first closed EACH side..
@Adventuregrapher

Hi Alain, I didn't think that having the bags so lightly packed (They are not empty) would have been so misleading. After all, I talked quite a bit about the weight issues when it's completely full. But I appreciate the feedback and will try to simulate real world conditions better in the future videos. And what comes to mentioning genders, I'm truly sorry if somebody feels insulted - no offense at all was intended. I naturally understand that both genders come in many different sizes and, indeed, this was a generalization based on averages. But I didn't and don't suggest that there is anything wrong with being sized below or above those averages. Again, I appreciate the feedback and expressing your opinion. Cheers :)

@@Adventuregrapher Actually I find Your video spectacularly good. Just spoiled a little by endorsing a kind of size-choice argument that I find so much out of line, just as sometimes absolute coherance of smoothness, oddly. But artificial hops would be just as "bad". I do admire a lot your review and answer. Thank You.
