My favorites are Tom Bihn pouches, ebags and eagle creek packing cubes and vaultz mesh storage bags. I use all of these in different combinations depending on where and how long I will be away.
Am I the only one that's bothered by the fact that they don't include the rain fly with the bag? I mean, bags that are way cheaper then this include them, why not a several hundred dollar one?
This is really well thought out. I wish a company would do something like this for the motorcycle community. The inherently limited space necessitates an organized system. It'd be great to see a collaboration between a group of companies like PacSafe, Wolfman and Peak Systems.
Hey Norsefalconer - have you heard of Velomacchi? They’re doing some stuff for the motorcycle community although not sure how deep. A little out of our niche but they may have a couple things. - Tom
TRAVEL TOOTHPASTE HACKS: many dentists have boxes and boxes of sample-sized toothpaste, floss, floss threaders, lip balm, and even toothbrushes, and will be more than happy to have you take a handful home. My dentist also puts them in clear plastic zippered envelopes that are great for making first aid kits, vitamin pouch containers, jewelry holders, etc. If you *do* need to refill a travel-sized toothpaste, you can do so by squeezing most of the air out of both the smaller and larger tubes, then butt the two open toothpaste tubes’ nozzles against each other, and carefully squeeze toothpaste from the larger to the smaller tube. If it starts leaking out the sides, stop, push gently in on the creased edges of the small tube to suck the errant paste into the tube, and repeat until the little tube is full again.
Love the content! Any chance of doing a review video of the Peak Design Duffelpack 65L? I recently purchased some PD cubes and the wash pouch after watching this video and thoroughly enjoy them thanks to the reviews!
Hey Geoffrey! Glad you're digging the reviews. We currently have no plans to review the Peak Design Duffelpack 65L in the immediate pipeline, but it's on the list. 😊👍 - Rebecca
The only one I would be interested in is that tech pack. That has to be the best organizational pack I've ever seen. It would make a good first aid kit and mini-bugout bag too. Good video!
You guys rock!! We asked for this video and you totally delivered. Really appreciate it and your insights and thoroughness are awesome as always. Just got the Travel Bag with this whole bundle, and loving it.

Great job on this one Tom! One quick question regarding tech pouch. An other reviewer complained that due to lack of space, an iPhone 8+ couldn't get charged while in the zippered pocket using the passthrough. Can you confirm? Still waiting on all of my stuff from the kickstarter campaign.
Hey SnapClik - hmmmm - it's definitely tight in the pocket. I don't have the pouch on me and won't for a couple days but I've made a note to test this when I'm back at HQ! - Tom
@@PackHacker Got everything today. Pretty overwhelmed with all the compartments and accessories!! Tried the iPhone 8+ with a case, Connected my Anker battery and tested multiple cables. The shorter ones worked best but they all ended up working without much issue. The Tech pouch is effing brilliant!! The travel pack it's self is way more comfortable than the Thule Subterra I returned (which turned out to be a good move). Loaded it with my 15" MBP some of my Sony kit into the medium camera cube and walked around for a while. I love the waist strap, it makes a huge difference with all this weight. Travel wise this would be almost masochistic though. I would leave the cube at home and just have a minimal camera setup in a small case. Utilize the medium / small packing cubes, tech / wash pouches. The reason I bought the camera cube is for shoots somewhere that requires hiking. For that the cube comes in clutch. It seems to me that if someone is looking to get into one bag travel, PD is THE one stop shop and offers the best value. (especially with KS discounts) The whole travel ecosystem PD created is so impressive and well thought out. So glad I backed it :) Man I'm stoked!! Could you tell?
Hey Michael - we tested this out and the large camera cube just fits inside the Aer Travel Pack 2. This is a very tight squeeze, which will push the bag to its limits and means that you have very little space for everything else. The medium camera cube fits in a lot more comfortably and takes up around 2/3 of the main compartment. Hope this helps! 😊👍 - Rebecca
Hey Ronnie - we're currently testing the WANDRD HEXAD Access Duffel, check out our initial thoughts here packhacker.com/travel-gear/wandrd/hexad-access-duffel/ 😊👍 - Rebecca
Hey Pang B - the Peak Design "Packing Unit System" helps you work out how much you can fit in, you can read more about it here packhacker.com/travel-gear/peak-design/packing-cubes/ - hope this helps. Let us know if you have any more questions. 😊 - Rebecca
Is it possible to insert these Peak Design ICUs into the Shimoda Explore 40 backpack? I like that backpack itself, but I don't like Shimoda ICUs which in my opinion are not as good as Peak Design camera cubes. But I've noticed that PD cubes are little bit bigger. Have you tried to fit PD cubes into Explore 40? I'd like to buy small and medium PD cubes, but I'm in doubts.
Hey Sergey, unfortunately, we haven't had any experience with the Shimoda Explore 40 (looks like a great pack though) - so we can't help you out too much here. Let us know what you end up going with and how it works out for you. - Nathan
Loved the review !! One question , if you remove all the dividers, can you fit 1 Tech Pouch and 1 medium packing cube in 30 liter everyday PD backpack .
Glad you're digging it Miloš Žižić - we've just checked this out and depending on what else you have in your pack, it should just fit in, however, it will be a pretty tight squeeze if the cube is at full capacity. Hope this helps! 😊 - Rebecca
I never understood one pouch to carry all tech stuff. Normally, you only do one task at a time - recharge your phone or recharge your laptop or copy photos, so why do you want to whip out all of your tech items at the same time? Also, it's much easier to misplace/lose a small bag like that than storing your items in a larger bag. Toiletry bags make sense as you want to move all that stuff to the bathroom at once.
Hey Bani - we get what you're saying, you've got to find the right organization for your travel style. What are your go-to tech pouches? We'd love to hear what works for you! 😊 - Rebecca
Great video and very helpful. I do have one question. I think you may have mentioned it, but would I be able to fit a medium camera cube and then two small packing cubes stacked on each other? Or could I even fit a medium packing cube and a medium camera cube?
Hey Danny! Your first scenario will work as long as the medium packing cubes aren't filled to the brim. A Medium Camera Cube and Medium Packing Cube probably isn't going to work out too well. - Tom
pro tip: You can fit a medium clothes cube and a small clothes cube in the expanded top section. This leaves the entire main section available for camera cubes, as you like.
Awesome video. I'M not sure if I missed it: What about the empty weight? Considering all of the features, compartments and organization there must be a lot of extra fabric and hardware compared to other bags. Are this bag and the pouches noticeably heavier than others?
Hey Bo! Tom here. They're actually quite lightweight, even with everything going on. The pouches aren't as light as say, a ripstop nylon packing cube, however, when comparing them to the weight of the Black Ember Citadel Modular pouches (which I believe you have?) they're quite a bit lighter. Good shout - it would be beneficial to discuss weight in all reviews, especially if anything is out of the ordinary. - Tom
Do you reckon that the shoe bag could be used as a little water sealed bag for putting in swim wear? The addition of the water sealed zip inspires a lot of confidence, but I'm not sure as to how water resistant the actual fabric is. Thanks in advance
Hi marvelanddcnerd24! You definitely could use it, but it's certainly not waterproof. If you want something that's waterproof, we'd recommend taking a look at the Nite Ize RunOff Waterproof line: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-N56RslJCCHo.html - Tom
Hey Chase! We recommend checking out our full review of the Peak Design Everyday Backpack 30L (V2) packhacker.com/travel-gear/peak-design/everyday-backpack-30l-v2/ to see how we packed the main compartment. 😊 - Rebecca
Hey Fritz! The small camera cube will fit vertically with the 30L for sure (we have one), however, it won't integrate with the side door like it does with the travel pack. Also, the origami shelves do well in the Everyday, and the cube will add extra bulk. Hope this helps! - Tom
@@PackHacker Wow thanks for the response! Well my idea is to have the dividers set as default, put everything on "pass thru" mode on the other half, and place the small camera cube. This way (theoretically), I will have the bag to work like normal on one side, and have a "grab-and-go" camera cube on the other.
@@fjaajf - Interesting idea Fritz! The dividers would have to be pushed pretty far to one side and there still may not be clearance, however, it may fit! We'll test for you when we're back in in the studio late next week! - Tom
@@PackHacker Or I can position the dividers vertically to accommodate the camera bag insert. Anyway, thanks a lot for helping out with this! Really appreciate it!
@@fjaajf - Hi Fritz! Tested this out for you and it's a little tight but wanted to share the photos with you so you can get an idea on size. Vertically, the cube fits quite well! cl.ly/b37f3b4035a2 Horizontally, it doesn't leave quite enough room for the dividers: cl.ly/f2733b9af1a3 Hope this helps! - Tom
@@PackHacker I think Tom made a good point that these may make sense if you have enough stuff to fill them up. I don't. The Maxpedition Moire works for me. It has 3 compartments but is all mesh and not too bulky. I also found a three pack of different sized Sharper Image pouches at TJMaxx for $10.
Hey Pieter, the small camera cube takes up around a 1/3 of the space inside the main compartment, and the side access works really well. Here's a video that shows all the details - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--ZRbayaHg0Y.html - hope that helps. - Nathan
So, similar to another commenter, I want to grab either the tech or wash pouch and double duty them. (Tech on one side and toiletries on the other) is there any glaring difference between the two that would make one better than the other? Wash pouch seems to have a nicer handle, but less great organization. Would super appreciate any thoughts since no stores near me carry PD products.
0:44 Whitch packing cube is that im interested on packing cubes that can be used individually like sling bags or something like that please help I cant find any
Hi Arnau! It's either the Peak Design Camera Cube (small): packhacker.com/travel-gear/peak-design/camera-cubes/ or the Peak Design Tech Pouch: packhacker.com/travel-gear/peak-design/tech-pouch/ - both can be used as a sling using the Peak Design Anchors & strap! - Tom
Tech pouch is way too bulky so is the Dopp kit !! I literally buy everything whereever I’m going . Tootbrush, toothpaste , deodorant . That’s pretty much it . Also the prices are insane in Australia . I own 4 peak design items , love the quality but they’re very hit and miss ..
Hey Brandon - there's no extra security, but there is a tear-away zipper and compression zipper. And, although this isn't a specific feature, it would be possible to lock the zippers together using a padlock. 😊 - Rebecca
Hey Junaid - we get what you're saying, but from our experience, we've found that certain packing cubes that compress your clothes can actually save space and create more room. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us! 😊 - Rebecca
Hey Elizabeth, these are the Integral Design Collapsible Compact Chopsticks: packhacker.com/travel-gear/integral-design/collapsible-compact-chopsticks/ - Rebecca
Hey Javier - looking up the dimensions of both, it seems as if the iPad mini would fit inside the middle compartment of the tech pouch, however, we don't have an iPad mini so we cannot verify this 100%. Hope this helps! - Rebecca
Is it just me or do you wish the Wash Pouch had another external zipper with a bigger pocket? I also not incredibly fond of the hang hook, like you mentioned. Still new to it, so I could change my mind. I left the tech pouch at home because I wasn't able to fill it, so it's not the best pouch for minimalist travel but it is cool for a home base kit to store a lot of my specialized tech junk and extra cables etc.
Hey thirtyeyes - thanks for dropping your comment here. As far as a bigger compartment on the exterior, maybe, however, we'd have to consider the liter space cutting into the main compartment a bit. Agreed that if you're trying to go really minimal, it's a tad too large! - Tom
@@georgia1152 I did and they won't. But it's okay because I figured out that it's a #5 invisible zipper that's upside down. So I used a double sided pull and fixed it that way
Hey jablkova strudla - we're interested in checking these out, but there are no reviews of these products in the current pipeline. Thanks for reaching out! 👍 - Rebecca
Hey! If you're looking for mini chopsticks, we recommend checking out the Snow Peak Wabuki Chopsticks that unscrew for easy storage packhacker.com/travel-gear/snow-peak/wabuki-chopsticks/ 👍 - Rebecca
Hey Min Thant Phwe! I just tested this for you. The Medium and Small packing cube can fit in the Aer Travel Pack 2 perfectly length-wise. Depending on how full you pack everything, you may be able to stack the tech pouch on top of one of the cubes OR in the bottom of front pocket horseshoe opening where the organization is. Might get a tad bulky though. Note: The zippered exterior pocket on the Aer Travel Pack 2 is too narrow to fit the tech pouch. Hope this helps! - Tom
The tech pouch looks great. I wish there were other brands with the same kind of opening design, just a bit smaller and a bit less expensive... Especially for people like me not in the US, import duties add up to the 60$ price... I did order the travel bag few weeks ago, but I'll probably regret not taking the tech pouch too.. I didn't find a good alternative yet
@@M0ebius Didn't know that brand thx. They have some interesting wash pouches and shoes bags. But I didn't find anything close to the design of the peak design tech pouch unfortunately
@@M0ebius Yes probably... after some more research I found this from bellroy: huckberry.com/store/bellroy/category/p/54538-classic-pouch kind of the same design that I am looking for: a pouch that opens from the top, with different slots to just throw some things in there.
I'm sure a packhacker rep will be by to answer your question soon, but for all liquids, gels and paste consistency products, the pouch has to be clear and only one quart in size. Not sure if that's what you were asking.
@@GlobalAdventurer - thanks for answering! Marcel - we haven't head an issue bringing this directly through security on any of our flights, however, we always make sure to have a TSA Quart-Sized baggie rolled up and stored within the pouch. That way, we can easily transfer any 3oz liquids containers into it + we always make sure it will fit prior to departing. - Tom
Currently have to decide between the AER Travel Pack 2 (which in my opinion looks much better) and the PeakDesign Travel Backpack (which has more features and is bigger). Which one would you suggest for 1 bag travelling without cameras? Love your reviews, keep up the great work
Hey Nicolai - depends on how much you need to bring! I'd typically opt for the smallest bag possible to comfortably fit your gear & clothing into. Let us know what you decide! - Tom
@@PackHacker Hi Tom. I went for the AER Travel Pack 2 as for me it looks much better while having almost the same capacity as the non-expanded PeakDesign Travel Backpack. But I bought the two packing cubes from PeakDesign so both companies got their fair share :)
