We are huge fans of everything Peak Design does, this pack is no different from the usual lineup of well-thought-out designs, I guess that's why they call themselves Peak Design.
The Peak Design Travel Pack is possibly the most feature-heavy backpack we have reviewed in the travel backpack category, we were most impressed by the masterpiece of a back panel. We have never seen a system as simple and easy to use as this.
While this backpack is certainly not designed for photographers, photographers will still get value out of this pack, due to its compatibility with all peak design products, it even has camera capture buckles on the waist pad.
**********
Get the Peak Design Travel Backpack if…
✅ You LOVE feature-heavy backpacks and need a large travel pack
✅ You are a photographer - combined with their camera cube and accessories this is an excellent large travel backpack for photographers.

DO NOT get Peak Design Travel Backpack if…
❌ Minimalist - The Peak Design Travel Backpack is feature-heavy, and this can make it confusing to use at times. Check out the reviews below for a more minimalist travel pack 👇🏼
→ Tortuga Outbreaker→ bigger and more minimalist → bit.ly/3nJVcnx
**Disclaimer: The Tortuga Outbreaker Backpack is discontinued. We recommend the Tortuga Travel Backpack instead!
→ Aer Travel Pack 2 → Approximately the same size → bit.ly/3nlrsdH
❌ On a budget? $300 is a lot to pay for a backpack - check out this alternative instead… 👇🏼
→ Standard Luggage Carry On Backpack→ bit.ly/3nfxXi6
❌ Everyday carry. While Peak Design claims it's suitable for an everyday carry, it's still 30 liters, which is barely everyday-carryable. Check out this instead. 👇🏼
→ WANDRD PRVKE → Larger every day carry → bit.ly/3osBmcD

Probably the best-known photography backpack company in the world, there isn't a Peak Design product that we don't love!
Some of our favorite products are the Peak Design Everyday Backpack, the Peak Design Everyday Sling, the Peak Design Backpack 45L, and the Peak Design Travel Duffel.
Tav's in love with the Everyday Messenger, because of the hidden pockets.

Probably one of the best backpack reviews I've seen, love the very thorough coverage of every feature. Basically the closest thing to seeing the bag in person myself! I think I am convinced to get it now. I actually got the Everyday bag but it was not really for me, due to lacking features like the front section and storage size. My impatient brain loved the little progress animations to know how long each section was too.

I’ve had this bag for about a year and a half and it’s still my go to for 5-7 day trips. Combined with packing cubes, it’s flat out amazing. It’s held up nicely, and is still like new. I do agree about the back pack straps. Not the most comfortable, but not the worst. Great bag overall though.

Very nice review, I wish had this available when I bought a few months ago. It would be nice to have the rest of the accessories reviewed and how they work so well with this backpack as that is where much of the beauty of it comes. Tbh I never really used the side handles but I agree that the top handle is very nice. Many people say the bag is not that comfortable, but to be honest it's the most comfortable backpack I've ever had, even when fully loaded. Try to tighten the waist strap well and loosen the shoulder straps a bit so the weight sits on your hips and not your shoulders, it will be much more comfortable this way. Regarding the side access it's true it's mostly to be able to access camera gear in their camera cubes but I've found them to be good to access any other pouch / cube from within the bag, you just need to pack smarter to get fully use of the backpack. Finally I agree that if you want a backpack where you just throw your stuff inside and go, this is not the backpack for you. This is a backpack that you should carefully think where and how you pack your things so you can get most out of it. Again, great review!
@Nomads.Nation
@Nomads.Nation 3 года назад
Thanks for your input Goncalo! Agreed on your point about this backpack not being a typical 'throw your stuff inside' pack. If you spend the $300 USD on this bad boy, it's to take your organization to the next level :)

The peak design packing cubes (expensive) are awesome, I kickstarted the bag and got the packing cubes as well, gone international about 4 times with the bag, the last trip ended up being for 9 months in Thailand because covid. I love this bag, the structure, the organization, even if I didn't want to properly fold my clothes, I could get away with not doing a great job and instead of compressing the packing cubes, I could just leave them uncompressed, and they fit. I haven't used it for cameras only travel. You get what you pay for, the quality is great. I got the green one also thinking nobody would choose that color, the only other time I've seen the bag in the wild the guy also had it in green lol. My previous bag was an Osprey Porter and that bag was good too and I had very little complaints with it, especially its price points.

I have the Peak Design travel backpack. I use it for daily use. I got the sage color. I am a teacher and I am able to keep all my tech gear, along with my 16-inch Macbook Pro and iPad pro. I took it on a cruise with me and got so many compliments. I used it on an excursion as it housed the peak design medium size camera bad. I love the side access it allows to gear. I love it.

I've had the Peak Design Backpack for 2 years for occasional travel within the EU; TOTAL Revolution. Going from a 2 bag travel (trolley + laptop business bag), the PeakD makes everything compact, accessible and myself more mobile. Some necessary criticism! Sometimes I miss a shoulder strap and the possibility to have more compartments for clothes, without sacrificing the mobility. I found the OSPREY Transporter carry on 44L! It's larger, material quality not as good as PeakD (no issues so far though!) BUT it opens like a book, making packing more convenient, can be used as backpack (straps can be hidden) AND has a shoulder strap. NOMADS, you might want to look into it!
@Nomads.Nation

Thanks so much for the epic comment Michael! And the Osprey Transporter 44 is a fantastic recommendation - I've added it to our to-do list :)
@PSKuddel
@PSKuddel 2 года назад
I disagree, I just ordered both for comparison to decide for one, the PeakDesign Travel Backpack 45 AND the Osprey Transporter Carry-On 44, and the PeakDesign is definitely quite a bit larger in terms of volume to pack (even when not extended). I haven‘t seen another backpack with similar dimensions so far, that can pack that much volume.
@adrianstere
@adrianstere Год назад
@@PSKuddel The only problem i have with this bag (peak) is the back support and the belts. They are nowhere near Osprey 40 2022 for example. For a 45 litter bag that's so expensive they really should have add it some real airflow and back/belts support. They look very thin and loosely. The truth is that no one can beat yet Osprey when it comes to comfort for your back.

I have this bag and use it for literally everything - the office, travel, even grocery shopping. $300 is a lot for a bag but it's truly one of those buy it for life. I've basically stopped taking rolling carry-ons, and it's an absolute lifesaver on packed flights where you can squish it anywhere overhead without worrying. It's definitely on the heavy side so I wouldn't recommend it for hiking at all, but for city life it's perfect. Also, yeah, sage all the way.

I've had the bag almost 2 years and love it. The side handle use, for me, is for grabbing the bag when carried onto a plane. We all know that when you stow your carry on in the overhead (after you have folded in the shoulder/hip straps), the airline attendant comes along and will sometimes turn your bag to the side and stuff it towards the back of the compartment to allow another bag to fit in front of yours. When that happens, the top handle you used to stow it, may not be turned in your direction and the side handles (or bottom for that matter) are the only way to get hold of it, deep in the bin. They are really only for quick access, IMHO, and not for main carry like the top handle that is made thicker.

I think that side handle isn’t really for carrying the bag. It’s high up therefore off centre and as noted, not a comfortable shape. It’s really to allow you to grab the bag when it’s in any orientation and turn it easily towards the main holds and straps. Imagine it’s in an overhead bin on a plane and you can’t get to the top or bottom handles easily. No problem, just rench it out using the side holds and off you go. You can imagine all the different occasions where that would be handy.

Been using my peak designs back pack since 2018. One thing I can attest to, is that their lifetime warranty is legit. They have replaced my 5L sling where my zipper failed and my 40L where the PU coating was breaking off with no questions asked. Free international shipping and all. One thing that i can gripe about is that the PU coating tents to peel off. I dont know if its because of the weather here (living in a tropical country). Over all, i invested in the bag during the kickstarter campaign, and have not regretted purchasing ever since. PS, the packing cubes are durable AF. My dog had chewed of part of the zipper, but suprisingly it still freaking works.

The only problem i have with this bag is the back support and the belts. They are nowhere near Osprey 40 2022 for example. For a 45 litter bag that's so expensive they really should have add it some real airflow and back/belts support. They look very thin and loosely.

Thanks for the comment Adrian! Personally I don’t think Ospreys are that comfy. Basic back padding, poor ventilation, and average shoulder padding. @@Nomads.Nation No way. It actually opposite. Osprey has way more comfortable experience! They are know for this in the market. Load the Peek design full and go and walk for 2 hours in the city and do the same with the FairPoint 40 2022 and tell me how it feels. Because i tested both. Also the price is halv! I don't know if I can trust a review from somebody who drinks such terrible beer. 🍺 LOL Anyway the nylon loops on the shoulder straps are not for the Capture clip. Capture fastens right on to the shoulder straps as it would on any other pack. (Like in the stock photo from Peak Design you flashed up on the screen.) The loops on the belt are for Capture clip but can accommodate other small molle style attachments and some Lowepro accessories. So even if you're not a photographer the loops can be useful. You missed out the entire ecosystem of packing cubes and camera cubes which are designed to fully integrate with the bag. These help make the bag a fantastic choice for photographers with varied workflows or who want to take some extra clothes with them all in the same bag as their photo gear. The side handles aren't designed for carrying, they're for easily pulling the bag of of tight compartments or quickly grabbing it from any angle; there's a similar handle on the bottom also.

Sorry, I think this backpack is not good. At least not for my use case. I am traveling ALWAYS with carry on baggage, and the Peak Design Travel is not useful for this. First it is way too heavy. Most airlines are limiting to 8kg - and although you are not often getting checked, it happens, and then you have more than 1/4 of the weight you are allowed to have only on your backpack. Second - and I used it - the zipper is not as good as it should be. But I have to admit, that Peak Design did repair without charging. However, it is a problem in the middle of nowhere when a main zipper stops working. And finally the 35l is not making the best out of the about 40l for the perfect cabin bag, but 45l is too much (and the backpack is too large for airline checkers - and even worse, it looks too large). I do now have the Deuter Aviant Access 38. I weights less than 1.5kg, has the most robust zippers you can imagine and it costs less than half the prize of the Peak Design. The only thing I am missing, is the easy stow away of the straps.

Who is this bag for? ..... People who like failing to meet airline carry on weight requirements! 2.1kg is almost a third of the allowance on many airlines. For one baggers, it will mean having to carry a packable bag/tote and unpacking/repacking at every airport. It's a solid/well made bag, but $300USD somehow doesn't buy you a bag made in the USA.
