I love the audio/video quality difference in the old videos it really gives them that homemade feeling

Hi Dean, years after watching this video for the first of many times and seeing the amazing views, I finally did this route today. Stunning weather, stunning views and I could have stayed up there all day quite happily! I also had the privilege of meeting up with Alex Cripps from Alex Cripps Outdoors RU-vid for this one. Thanks so much for posting.

It's a great little route, I'd only ever approached that area from the Derwent valley side so it was nice to see what Langsett had to offer. I lived in Stocksbridge for 2yrs when I was younger so it was like a walk down memory lane

Hi Dean, I watched this video this morning at 3 am as I could not sleep and it brought back many memories, the Landrover in the car park was my immediate boss in the Ranger Service , I was a part time Ranger working out of Langsett on alternate Sundays throughout the year from 1999 until I retired in 2017. The route you took was one of many that I and my fellow Rangers would take whilst patrolling the moors. Going up Cat Clough from the footbridge over the Little Don I would marvel at the remains of the trees that covered this area in the Dark Ages and before - now only roots remain , in those days cattle were walked up Longside ( Langsett is the bastardisation of this ) to the tops as they were tree and predator free. I would pass the remains of the Airspeed Oxford on Outer Edge and the Icelandic Airlines Consul on the southern edge as well as looking at the rare Labrador tea plant behind the trig point, find a way over the bog of doom between the trig point and Cut Gate or wander North to the crash point for a V1 buzz bomb and onto CutGate ,, sometimes returning to Langsett over LostLad and Sugden top via the tank ranges searching for shells that would appear after heavy rain. If I returned via Brook House bridge I would look for the inscriptions ( 2 girls names ) in the boulder built into the wall alongside the cobbles above the bridge - inscribed when the farm here was abandoned when the res. was built. I spent a good few years looking for boundary stones on the surrounding moors. Now my wife and I are supporters for Woodhead MRT and if you take part in The Trigger fell races or The Spine race in January we are to be found in the Village Hall at Edale serving tea and sympathy. All the best thelangsettwanderer. Dave

Hi Dave, thanks for watching. It's a fabulous route. Thank you for all your hard work as part of the Woodhead MRT support team. I work for the Spine Race now so will most certainly be at Edale in January

Hi Dean, my wife Shirley will be there in charge, I am likely to be at Torside on the road crossing and then onto Edale via Snake picking up any retirees. ATB Dave@@DeanRead

Hi Daz, thanks for your great comments. Yeah I'd planned to do a quick video review/comparison of the Army Bivvy and the Terra Nova Bivvy I have, watch this space as I'll make sure I do it in the next few weeks :-)

+Kevin Walker thanks for watching Kevin, I love that part of the Peak. Crow Stones Edge is one of my favourite spots, you can usually get the place to yourself and would be a great spot for a camp :-) ATB Dean

Hi Dean, I've been on Crowstones many times and only ever seen someone else, once. Beautiful spot. Birds will sometimes feign injury to lure "predators " away from their nest or young, as with this grouse.

Hi David, it certainly was a cracking day out. I used my Canon 550D to shoot the video, I also used my iPhone for a couple of bits at the start but 95% is the Canon.

Hiya Dean, enjoy your vids mate, I'm fairly local (Cheshire) and I was up on the Roaches only last week to capture a few sunset images. I find especially amusing are the ones you do with your daughter in tow...she's nutty as a fruit cake mate, great fun! I know you're an advocate of the BA Bivvy Bag. I was wondering if you could perhaps do a brief vid on pro's/con's of said item, I'm thinking of investing!? Cheers Dazza.

Hi David, I use Final Cut Pro on my MacBook. For my earlier videos I used iMovie which is very good to for just stitching pics & video together.

Hi Dean, great video. Looks an amazing walk. Which OS map would you use? I've got both OL1 and OL24 (the White peak and dark peak).
@DeanRead
@DeanRead 6 лет назад
This video is in the Dark Peak in the upper Derwent Valley and OL1 will cover the whole route. Hope you have a good one if you go and give it a go. Crow Stones is a great spot
