I think it's explained again later on as an offshoot comment by Yhwach. But this scene itself implies they worshipped him as the God... And only later he changed the pronouncation to make it it's own. 2:40 Also do not pay too much attention to the opening so early on. It actually spoils most of the things again, this time in tasteful camp way - using real world esthetics. A somehow clear reference to original season - where we had openings and endings using those esthetics.
