Doug Copley's Lineside Images
'Doug Copley's Lineside Images' are 68 titles filmed 1980's, 1990's & 2000's variously 12-90 minutes long. They come with Doug's own commentary and tend to follow lines of route, or particular workings, filmed over multiple return visits.
Doug's videos often include interludes of impressively vocal bird song!
In Alfred Hitchcock (filmmaker) style, Doug occasionally makes brief cameo appearances in his own films.
Doug Copley
Doug gave annual shows to Peak Rail Sheffield Branch. When he died in 2008 his films were kindly made available to the Peak Railway Association by his family so that appreciative enthusiasts can continue to enjoy his work in his memory.
During his working life as a steelworks commissioning engineer he travelled extensively and the collection includes South America, South Africa, India, Turkey (steam), and Australia. The UK collection includes many secondary lines, and also industrial railways. A treasure trove.

DCLI #05-2 Sheffield to Peak Forest (2004-5) (76 mins)
"Sheffield to Peak Forest 2004-5" took 18 months to film and starts at Meadowhall on the Sheffield Rotherham boundary, with nostalgic glimpses of "Bill & Ben" the erstwhile cooling towers that stood alongside M1 Tinsley Viaduct long after the original power station closed. In the Meadowhall interlude you also see Pacers, 153s, and also Supertram after it was taken over by Stagecoach and was wearing the then Stagecoach 'toothpaste' livery. You also pick up a Freightliner Class 66 working the Dewsbury-Earles Sidings (Hope) cement tanker empties, a working seen many times in this film as you first head south along the Don Valley passing Brightside, Attercliffe, and Nunnery Main Line Junction, to reach Sheffield Midland Station.
After passing through platform 6, the Sheaf Valley is uphill to Dore Station Junction, where you leave the Midland Main Line and take the north-to-west spur of the triangular junction to reach the 3.5m Totley tunnel to Grindleford station. There you burst out into the Hope Valley. and pass through Hathersage, Bamford and Hope to reach Earles Sidings, the exchange sidings for the privately owned branch line to Hope Cement works. Now owned by Breedon, before that Lafarge, at the time of filming it was Blue Circle Cement. The now elusive 1990 Hunslet-Barclay B-B dh loco 'Blue John' is seen working at Earles Sidings.
Earles Sidings signal box has a flat roof following a roof fire many years ago. Continuing westward, the line climbs 'Normans Bank' to Edale - start of the Pennine Way - and then escapes through the 2 mile long Cowburn Tunnel at the west end of the Hope Valley. Shortly after Cowburn are the triangular junctions at Chinley where the Hope Valley Line met the Midland Line from London St Pancras, Matlock, Bakewell, Millers Dale and Peak Forest to Chinley, Stockport and Manchester Central.
Joining the Midland route, you take the east to south side of the triangle at Chinley East Junction, across the lofty viaducts above Chapel Milton, Chapel-en-le-Frith. before heading for the 1.7 mile long Dove Holes Tunnel, and Peak Forest. Continuation is on a seperate film.
One of Doug's 'Lineside Images' quality compilations, 75 mins with his own commentary, and Hitchcock-style walk-on guest appearances. Doggedly filmed over 18 months for best continuity.

what a nostalgic look back.. I spent many hours down at Peak Forest watching the stone traffic, and at one time owned a 'OO' model railway exhibition layout that featured stone trains of this era. ahh good memories....
