I’ve always said this I love I Connors personality, I do not think he’s boring at all but damn is he poorly written. Instead of providing any rebuttal he just does not listen and insults and it’s so hard to tell when it’s purposeful or just bad writing.
@@Deivid-bn6yw i think its actually good writing... i mean... i think he was just a kid... a kid that got training but basically still a kid... still had to learn a lot... i believe that's why he behaved like that... i finished this game yesterday for the first time and inmediately watched gaming wins video on it and understood many things more deeply
The problem is that people get frustrated with Connor's stubborn mentality because it's like a 5 year old's but that's the point. Connor grew physically very well but not so much mentally and emotionally due to being secluded for most of his life, to the point that he's so unaware of the complexity of the real world that he may as well be a 5 year old with a 6' killing machine body.
@@justsomeguyinouterspace8623so was Ezio in the first game. He, unlike Connor, got a whole trilogy for character development. It’s not fair to judge Connor on one game where he couldn’t get fleshed out enough
@@KM-qk1oz Just to clarify, I wasn't bashing Connor. He's actually my first and favorite and I think it would be pretty cool to see a Connor who matured after seeing the true nature of the world, especially after that one cutscene at the end where he sees the slave auction.
Newer games also have really well written scenes (AC Valhalla : Basim telling Evior about his son, AC Mirage : Basim realizing who Nehal is/ Basim and Roshan's argument) but they are clouded by a load of scenes that weren't motion captured, that really undermines them
@IDRlFTERI exactly, if there's any well written and performed dialogues in the recent AC games, it'll just be ruined by the awful animations. It just doesn't have any life to it.
I am not sure if y'all are just making jokes or don't know, but he is probably referencing a famous fable. I can't remember exactly but its about a fox who, try as he might, can't reach the juicy grapes hanging high up on a vine. So he just claims, without evidence, that the grapes are sour and not worth the effort and therefore leaves. When put into the context of their argument, it makes for a sensible retort. Haytham is claiming freedom is not peace but rather chaos, presumably because it is much harder to attain peace while maintaining people's freedom. Conner, therefore, retorts that equating freedom with chaos is like calling the grapes sour, i.e. claiming, without evidence, that a tough goal (freedom) is not worth pursuing because it is likely going to lead to a bad outcome (sour rather than juicy grapes = chaos rather than peace). Of course while the grapes may end up being sour, you can't know without trying. The brevity of the retort opens the statement to misunderstanding or alternate interpretations but does not insult the intellect of the audience. This is why I appreciate such writing far more than writing in current games which often spell everything out which, while making everything super easy to understand, weakens the impact of the dialogue imo.
The first clip genuinely shows how his assassin upbringing made Haytham the most 3 dimensional Templar. “Curiosity” is what led to Connor existing, a now living monument to the Assassin Blood within his veins, yet all Templars seek is “Order and Control,” it lets us know that unlike many in his creed he thinks very much for himself and enjoys to see things play out that are beyond his capability of altering. He wants freedom just as much as an Assassin deep down.
Exactly. Haytham and Shay are among the best Templars there ever have been. They've seen both sides in a more equal light. You could argue that Shay joined the Templars simply because he wanted to stop Achilles, but he clearly believed in the cause enough to stay a Templar up until his death.
Except neither really want the same freedom as how the assassins want it. During Haytham’s fight, Haytham explains a lot of how he despises Americas ideals of “liberty”, that people cannot have power or ever want power as that of a king. Ultimately the Templars seek a higher leader to lead people to become a civilization of order and peace. The Templars are more aligned with authoritarianism, rather than a democracy.
@@moongoalie2410 But is he wrong tho? People don't want to think for themselves. People don't want to become leaders themselves because it's too much of a responsability to bear. Most of them wanna be told what to do
And then they threw it all away, they created the best open world of any game, filled with the best environments, details, people and characters, and nothing was done to build on this afterwards. How Read Dead 2 didn't get any single player content (story DLC, Mexico, Undead Nightmare) has to go down as the biggest missed opportunity in gaming history. But hey, atleast we get a constant flow of microtransactions in GTAV online. 10/10 game, 0/10 management from Rockstar.
@lolgo4gold yeah true. I'm sure a huge part of that comes from some of the main people from Rockstar Games leaving shortly after RDR2 released. Things definitely started to fall apart after that with the new people running Rockstar now
It's not just "voice acting", it's the whole performance, these are made with the actors wearing mocap suits and performing like they're being recorded with a camera on a set
Haytham is one of the best protagonist/antagonist in all of media imo. Very well voiced, excellent motives and still extremely likeable even as a “villain”
AC3 is still a marginally better than all the current ones put out today, but playing it immediately after AC2 was extremely disappointing in my opinion
Also that scene where u find sindri in tyrs temple after brok dies “I gave you everything: my skills, my friendship, my home, my secrets, my treasures and you just kept taking and now what have I got? Not even my family. You want sorry this is what sorry looks like”
Yea that's a really good scene, thanks for reminding me but the thing is I only have an Xbox and a PC, and God of War Ragnarok is still Playstation exclusive
Or the fact that Haytham's argument was built on false principles of an authoritarian rule? Which Connor is vehemently(rightfully) against... Connor wouldn't have been convinced either way.
@@nirjhar4803Except Haytham was alluding to the fact that the American Revolution was a bourgeois revolution rather than a revolution of the people, that the leaders of it sought to expand their business enterprise and enrich themselves but “dressed it with pretty words” (and considering how history plays out, he may have had a point)
@@chronica6457 He may have learned some, but what I remember is that he didn't speak any english before he met Achilles. That is where his real confrontation and learning journey began, according to what the game show for. It wouldn't have made much sense of Connor have a articulated vocabulary seeing his history and practicality.
I’ve never stopped to appreciate just how freakin life like the models of people are in The Last of us. The eyes, the mouth, the muscular complexity… …it’s just, perfection.
Impressive as it is I still feel the original looks better. There are micro expressions that give different context and feel to moments that they completely changed for “part 1” and mostly not for the better I feel.
The end of spiderman ps4 is probably the best voice acting ive ever heard. God of war 2018 and ragnarok have the best all around voice acting and mocap, but the ending of spidey is definitely the best individual performance.
when arthur said "Im afraid", you can clearly see the fear from his eye and his body language, But it changed when Sister Caldéron Gave him purpose of his life and be a loving man, Arthur Went from fear To a loving man And you can see he seemed relived.
Definitely not up to the other games in the video but how the motion capture acting has done in that scene is cinematic and really good, so Shay's va on top of that made me want to include it
Haytham isnt just predicted USA's future, he predicted the future of the countries established over the last 3 centuries One of best example is Türkiye/Turkey's......there will local elections in march, they promise too much things but everyone know none of it will come true *even as at assassin's side, i would join Haytham's templar order
yeah, the whole point in Haytham's argument is that the Assassin's lost their original values, they valued peace over everything else originally, and then the whole "freedom" thing started when Templars wanted "order"
oh man that first scene, assassins creed 3 was my like early teen/high school game, the templar/assassin dynamic was the best in all of the games I genuinely felt bad after killing each templar and hearing their side. what a underrated game especially compared to the trash they're releasing now
when i was young i was just as naive as connor, freedom is peace is what i thought aswell, now that im a little older i keep finding myself more understanding his father than him
It’s embarrassing that Rogue had shittier writing than III. Both III and even Black Flag to a degree gave us well written Templars that gave us genuine pause while still highlighting the good of the Assassins, but in Rogue they just made the Assassins brainless and evil for no reason and made all the Templars just unequivocally good people for no reason.
I never saw it as the Templars being good guys, but Shay being tunneled by their “equality and order” stance to a point it made him THINK they werent bad The Assassins were never bad, Achilles was just an obsessed idiot, and when he sees the real danger he agrees that Shay was right, that these precursor objects arent meant to be stolen. But too much time had passed for Shay to be brought back, and Haythams carefully chosen words would reel him right back in The story isnt a masterpiece but I wouldnt call it bad either. The Templars are heroes to Shay cuz they speak with honeyed words, but how they achieve their goals are far from beneficial to all
@@zenith8417 I feel it's kinda hard to say that the assassins were never bad during the colonial era when they were planning on poisoning a city, and continuing to handle precursor objects, when though they knew what happened to other cities through the precursor map. I agree with you on the templars giving Shay the good treatment, but then there's the problem of whether we're crossing into good character writing or just bad writing in general. Because the assassins act more like the templars we're custom to and the templars more like the assassins.
Arthur admitting hes afriad while seeing the worry in his eyes just made me tear up on my first time playing cause sometimes i often feel the same way it takes a big man to admit that ❤
“I’m afraid” coming from Arthur always always makes me tear up. It’s the mask finally coming off of a guy that acts tough and he shows his vulnerability in that moment.
Connor witnessing the nation he fought for eventually destroy his own people must have been painful beyond measure. No doubt his conversations with Haytham lived rent-free in his head for the rest of his life.
It was Haytham Kenway who converted many Assassins to the side of the Templars, he is just so damn well written. One of the best video game characters 🔥
@@IDRlFTERI The season 01 of the Telltale Games "The Walking Dead" is a must ! you wont regret if you play it !! very endearing story and very well developed characters
That scene from RDR2 is probably my favourite videogame scene ever. No music, just pure superb acting, heaviness of the hard reality, perfect screenplay and great fuckin characters make it exceedingly memorable.
This is the hill I will die on - they're not voice-acting, they're *acting*. It's like going to see a band and saying "Oh, man, Andy Serkis did great voice acting as Gollum". C'mon, guys, let's try and change that perception: This is *acting*.
old ac games seems to have better story and the origins oddesy have better fight system(i hate old games due to so different from the 4 newer ac games n i started w origins 1st game ever in ac series so might be that?) But story has always been better even if its ok in the new games(for a big part atleast but not ac valhalla that i liked n hated at same time, origins is still my fav game n oddessy i love because the SPARTA KICK ha,ha,ha just kick those bad dudes off the rooftops n cliffs n have a laugh)
Its pretty interesting that the Templars in this time period where more of the good guys than the AssassAssassins. The colonial brotherhood is such a fuck up
These are all impressive. However, still my favourite video game voice acting is the cinematic intro of Diablo 2 Lord of Destruction. Imagine yourself in a situation that huge hordes of demons are around you so you are so afraid that you almost shit yourself, and even though, you pretend to be strong and in control of the situation. And do it only with your voice. That's some impressive voice acting.
I find AC3 rather tragic because I see the relationship between Haytham and Connor as the last hope of reconciliation between Templars and Assassins, but things unfortunately fell apart between them
It is a tragic, even the ending showed that Haytham is right and Connor is wrong and he lost his people who he was trying to protect for the people who he was helping, who he thought would be better than the British
It's so strange how people seem to have listened to this ACIII scene, which explains character motivations, and immediately side with Haytham because he's written to speak in an authoritative manner with a few clever words. Neither characters say much of substance. As Haytham says "may dress it up in pretty words, but that doesn't make it true".
The thing is both the Assassins and the Templars are right in their own ways. Order can bring peace but too much leads to the cost of freedom but too much freedom brings chaos thus both are needed to balance the scales. There will be no end to the conflict of the Assassins and Templars because without one the scale tips too far. The only thing that will end the conflict is the death of humanity. Thank you for reading my rambling if you did make it this far.
I would also like to add that unlike the outfits of the Templars (typically black) and Assassins (typically white) with both having red highlights. Things are not black and white and get very complex if you think deep enough into it.
Freedom inspires chaos, but it also inspires order too. Being free to do whatever does not immediately mean chaos. So long as you teach those to be kind, open, thoughtful and determined, you will have those who are ready to be free in the world, to establish order without heavily restrictive borders or fences or whatever. So long as you teach them well, they'll know better than to run amok, and instead to create a world with real order. Though considering the righteousness of the Templars and eventually Abstergo, they didn't quite get the memo Edit: I also found something hilarious. *Haytham:* "They convened in private and made a decision that would benefit THEM." Um... so like you and your Templars? Convening in private, making decisions that benefitted _your_ ideas and visions of a world of order? Read the fucking room
