@@njsongwriter haven't read labels in a while but both Skippy and Jif contain sugar and other oil. That's why you don't have to stir them. Going to check labels today. TJ's Organic Crunchy PB is good too!
I like Smucker's Natural: nothing but peanuts and salt. No hydrogenated anything and no sugar or other sweeteners. Very robust peanut flavor and texture. You'll have to mix the peanut oil into the butter when you open it, but that's no big deal; I microwave it for a minute to ease the stirring, and I use a fork.
Smucker's Natural is my favorite as well. I tried the organic version of Smucker's Natural and found it excellent but not quite as good as the non-organic version. I get my Natural peanut butter weeks before I need it and store it upside down until I open it. That way the peanut solids are not stuck on the bottom; I also warm it slightly in the microwave. I've considered making a paint can size sabot to hold the peanut butter jar and ask a hardware shop to mix it in the paint shaker. No idea if it would actually work.
Yeah they really gave Smucker's the short shaft here. Yes Goober is awful, hell even as a kid when I finally pestered my mom enough to buy it because it looked amazing, it was terrible. Smucker's natural is the best of the large national bands, but I live 2 miles from the place that makes the most amazing peanut butter ever - Krema. I don't know how widely they distribute but I visit their factory store a couple times per month to get my peanut (and other nut) butters right from the source.
Laura Scudder's and Adams are my favorites and they are made with organically grown peanuts (not contaminated with glyphosate "Round-Up Ready" and other pesticides). They also only contain fresh roasted peanuts and salt. Jiffy and Skippy, which you rated high for flavor, are not healthy food since they both contain added sugar and hydrogenated fat.
Yep.. I'm old enough to recognize BULLHOCKEY.. Mix her up equal parts mayo, mustard and catsup. Smear it on bread.. if they pay her enough, she'll sing its praises.
When I was a kid my mom always bought Skippy. When I married my wife always bought Jiff. At some point in time ‘I tried Skippy again. - no contest, Jiff is supreme!
i always buy crunchy skippy and just a month ago i tried jiff YUCK! was so disgusting. it lacks in flavor. and has another weird flavor to it other than nuts.
We've always gone for Jif as well. When my Partner moved in he bought Skippy crunchy at the store. Tried it, and there was this weird extra crap in it that had an aftertaste and was just awful. I made him go back and get Jif crunchy instead. Now that hits the spot!
I have been buying Crazy Richards Chunky Peanut Butter for at least 20 years. I stir it up once and then store it in the frig. It wont separate when cold.
We've always bought kraft at home. When my work switched to Jiff however, the patients raved about it and wanted to know what was the new brand so they knew what to buy when they got discharged lol. I wouldn't say it is the healthiest peanut butter, but it gets patients eating, and actually asking for PB and toast! Eating equals faster healing! There's a new commerical for you Jiff lol
This is interesting. I settled on Jif decades ago and have stuck with it, more or less, for the last 30-35 years. At least I know I’m not alone in my preference for it. I eat peanut butter daily; it’s my favorite food. I would’ve starved to death as a child were it not for peanut butter. It’s the only thing I liked to eat.
Jif is the best tasting brand. They were right about that. I buy the Jif natural which is not 100% pure peanuts and salt but it is a little better and it tastes great. Publix and other higher end grocery chains do sell straight pureed peanuts flavored with just a little salt. Sometimes the texture just doesn't work. I recommend Jif natural and you don't have the oil separation like you have with Smuckers.
I've made Pete Pan for 41yrs and my Father for 32 before me. We did numerous blind taste panels at work and most of what has been shown in this video was far less palatable then Pete Pan. Also there a few company's that can claim they use peanuts within a hundred miles radius of the plant. Peter Pan gives you the freshest peanuts available, most times their processed the same day they get delivered.
Everyone in my house agrees that Skippy Natural (yes you do have to either stir it or turn it upside down for an hour to drain the oil off) is the best of the brands we've tried. I never really liked Jif. I like peanut butter with jelly or jam of course, but also with cheese and pickles on bread or an English muffin for a savory snack!
In general Jif is my favorite but if I eat a spoonful of peanut butter (ik im weird) then I prefer Skippy because it’s more artificial and less intense.
Fun fact, in Europe peanut butter is known but not as ubiquitous as in the US. Also the combination of jelly and peanut butter isn't something that is done. I'm Dutch and in my language it's called "pindakaas" which litterally translates to "peanut cheese". Peanut butter in Europe (at least where I live) are not sweet at all, it's full on peanut flavor. I have a pot of peanut butter next to my keyboard right now (also the reason why I searched for this vid). The pot I have is from a brand called "Mister Choc" which is a Lidl brand (German chain similar to Aldi).
Jif is made in Lexington, KY. It's the largest peanut butter producing facility in the world. When you drive by their plant during production hours, the whole street smells like roasted peanuts. Heaven! :)
Been eating Crazy Richards for 15 years. Stir with a hand mixer that has one beater in it. Scrap around the bottom with a butter knife and stir for another minute with the hand mixer. Store in fridge. Never had to stir it twice. Takes all of 5 minutes to do.
Alton Brown made good at teaching on a video how to make it from scratch, since my state is a peanut producer, we have 2 pounds of raw peanuts for 2 bucks. While a jar, cost from $50.00 pesos ($2.50 usd) up to $130.00 mxp ($7.00 usd, daily minimal wage) The only reason I learn to make it, was the time my auntie from Phoenix gave us an Elvis Sandwich, it was amazing.
@Hectic Von kaos Spread the peanut butter on one side of one slice of bread. Top with sliced banana, then slices of cooked bacon. Cover with the other slice of bread. ... Heat a skillet over medium heat. Fry the sandwich on each side until golden brown and peanut butter is melted, about 4 minutes total.
The review on Crazy Richard is on point. Some jars all you have to do is stir a little other times you have to stir more and sometime there is still hard child but mostly at the bottom. But it’s not so bad that you wouldn’t buy. The peanut is the best in my opinion.
I was waiting for Laura Scudders to be at the top of the list only to be disappointed. I could be wrong though but on the east coast it may be Adams, same thing. I looked it up, same peanut butter different label.
I've been buying Peter Pan pure peanut butter, ingredients are peanuts and a dash of salt. Can't get any better than that. It's a little work to initially mix the jar thoroughly, but it holds for a long time, especially if kept in the fridge. No oil or sugar added, by the way.
I love peanut butter, I eat it everyday. I tried Aldi's Peanut Delight Creamy, it is fantastic, great Peanut flavor. I have tried most of the brands and they are bland. The Peanut Delight brand also contains molasses. When you open the jar and smell it, you immediately get a peanut fragrance!
I buy peanut butter for a food pantry to give away. Probably Aldi is selling Peanut Delight as a loss leader - it undercuts everyone else’s around here - but it’s almost always the cheapest I can get. I haven’t tried it myself but I’m glad it seems to be good as well.
@wmurnahan Thank you for posting this! I grew up on Jif peanut butter and don't buy anything else, but now that I have to watch my blood sugar I don't get to have peanut butter anymore. I will definitely have to check out Simply Jif!
@@suemoore9782 jif tastes good but has added trans fat (hydrogenated), not to mention added sugar and junk oil. So Smuckers Natural for me, or Kroger Natural.
I’ve been eating Peter Pan for 50 years and its smooth and creamy and doesn’t tear up the bread. When it had trouble years back, I tried everything on the shelf, but nothing was as good. I’m just glad it came back.
No added sugar Jif has excellent flavor and when paired with one of Smucker's sugar free jams is a great low sugar treat for those needing to watch their sugar intake
...I truly find the store brand "Kroger" perfectly seasoned and consistency and the last time I bought it is was $ 1.00 limit 10 jars on sale from $1.50 compared to $ 2.79 plus for the brand names.. I also like the .99 cent store $ 1.00 brand..Most brand names are simply TOO SWEET seems like everything food wise you buy has sugar or a sweetner ....I dont know why they cant reduce the sugar content.I will also save them a lot of money and then maybe diabetics can eat them as well.
@TDH I love the taste of Laura Scudders but you're not supposed to drain off the oil, you're supposed to mix it up. Whether natural peanut oil is good for you or not I'm not sure, would have to look it up.
At our local Winco we have a peanut grinding machine loaded with peanuts. You push the button, the peanuts get ground up, and chunky peanut butter comes out the bottom. Just peanuts and salt--the way peanut butter should be.
@@MrMisterJW Are you smoking crack, or are you seriously saying that this channel made by WHITE people, with a big WHITE audience, should pander to black people, just because some snowflake thinks that liking white brands over black brands is racist? Grow up.
@@jimp6542 commonly used black brands are brands like Peter Pan, Skippy, and honestly Great Value/Equivalent. Brands that tend to taste more like peanuts rather than a bunch of sugar with a hint of peanut. But my original comment was meant to focus on not just this video but a lot of their videos. They ranked places like Church's and Raising Cane's low on their fried chicken list, but some how bland as hell KFC was high on list.
Wegmans. That is a grocery store based out of Rochester New York big down here in the Washington DC OUTER BURBS Pardon me I hit the wrong button They have three house brands Organic crunchy & smooth style, homogenized cheap style in crunchy and smooth style 130 milligrams of salt I buy the in between hiuse brand called "just peanuts" 0 sodium content light oil on top and the peanut butter is not compacted but smooth or pre mixed . No mixing required. Probably doesn't sit in a whare house for 6 months that why its ready to use. Great stuff and cheap to 2 dollars a jar . Not a big jar but big enough for my single person use
I noticed that they didn't include Smucker's Natural peanut butter. Just nuts and a little salt. Great stuff. But you do have to stir the oil back in! But hopefully no one is so lazy that they can't do that.
Smuckers Natural smooth has been my favorite for decades. I don’t mind stirring. I just pour it into a mixing bowl and mix it thoroughly with my mixer then return it to the jar. An alternate way of mixing is the food processor. Either way you mix it you get the same smooth peanut butter with no additives.
Well I have bought Peter Pan and Skippy through the years and also Jiff. Teddy is good because it's all natural no hydrogenated oils just nuts and a little salt. Thought after you stir it you store in the refrigerator. You take it out and it becomes hard.I discovered a peanut butter that I get at Price Rite it's all just peanuts and a little salt. Some oil on top you stir it once and you don't have to put it in the refrigerator. I love it because it's natural
@@theresesouthworth227 I lived down the street from the Everett plant years ago. And it was the only peanut butter in my grandmother’s fridge when I was young. So there’s definitely some nostalgia involved, but it’s great peanut butter too.
I was a Skippy/crunchy person most of my life but moved to Brazil. I searched for years here for something that was mostly peanuts and no sugar without luck PLUS the stuff on the shelf here was (is) extremely expensive. One day, frustrated and desperate (I REALLY like PB) I went to the market and bought a vacuum sealed package with 5kg of slightly roasted peanuts. Heck - those 5kg cost the same as the tiny jars of PB on the grocery store shelf. I tried grinding it in my powerful blender but it was too dry. I bought an oil press to try to squeeze out peanut oil (no peanut oil on the market shelf here) to make grinding work better. Didn't work. I'm a big fan of roasted sesame oil so I tried about 3 tablespoons of oil, a pinch of salt to 4 cups of peanuts and VOILÀ!! Perfect PB. Now I regularly buy my 5kg packs of nuts, divie them up into approx. 4 cups bags which I freeze and use as needed. Seeing what JIF adds (molasses) I'm suddenly inspired to run over to the sugar mill and get some fresh blackstrap molasses to swap out the sesame oil.
Trader Joe's crunchy style, (blue label). Pure peanuts in their own peanut oil without a lot of stabilizers. Store the jar on it's head for a few days before opening and you don't need to stir in the separated peanut oil.
No mention of Laura Scudder's Peanut Butter? It's the BEST peanut butter on the planet! It has TWO ingredients: Peanuts and Salt! The oil separates on the shelf and needs to be stirred or mixed before serving which is easy: just mix it up with a table knife or other kitchen item. People who complain about stirring it up are just lazy and they'd rather have a jar of peanut butter with loads of sugar and other ingredients. If you want the real deal get Laura Scudder's in Smooth or Nutty style. It's the BEST! It is George Washington Carver's ORIGINAL recipe!
Actually , I like JIF...But I picked up the Walmart brand which has nothing added. No hydrogenated junk. I add my own honey. There ...I spoke for myself... :>)
Years ago I tried a variety of peanut butters. My personal favorite was the peanut butter that was ground and bottled while I waited. However, finding stores that offered that service was difficult. Of the commercial peanut butters, Jif Low-Sodium Natural Creamy Peanut Butter with its added sugar, molasses, salt, and palm oil was the best tasting and the easiest to find in the stores.
I agree that Jif is a great brand and I have some at home now and love it so much. I also have some Peter Pan peanut butter also and it is nice, but the taste of the crunchy is thick and stiffer, making it hard to spread on bread.
I think Walmart brand peanut butter is Skippy peanut butter. Years ago they had a recall covering contaminated jars. The recall covered Skippy and Walmart.
I buy Jif myself, however… Laura Scudder’s creamy is amazing too, and it’s my suggestion if you wanna go organic.. Just peanuts and salt, and of course you have to mix it yourself.. It even has speckles of red skin in it, which is awesome..
Costco's Kierland organic 2 pack. You have to stir it, but it's just the peanuts and salt. A lot of it! Added hydrogenated oils and sugars aren't my taste.
thought I would try it once and that was enough. Worst tasting stuff I have ever run across. Grew up with Planters and still like its rich flavor best of all. Now if only Costco would stock it.
There is a place in Virginia that makes a great peanut butter and some other peanut products. The name is Good Earth. There is no Sugar, smooth or chunky peanut butter jars that are highly recommended.
@@wmurnahan I don't buy anything in plastic, so if it's in plastic, it's definitely not worth buying. That tells me the company isn't concerned about the planet.
Not only the effect plastic has on the planet, but even food grade plastic has bad stuff in it, BPS, IMO. HDPE says BPA free, but no mention of BPS. Def. still creepy hormone like substance in it. Not good for animals either. And Smuckers is what I eat, no sugars or trans fat.
A good cheap all natural peanut butter is the Kroger brand. It has no sugar or artificial sweeteners. Just roasted peanuts and salt. I buy the creamy and it's delicious.
I grind mine in the FM Nutrition Center. Nothin’ but nut. I sometimes salt it after I spread it. My favorite. Jif is what I use in cookies as recommended by Cooks Illustrated. Always use their recipe which uses added ground peanuts. Everyone’s very favorite.
If you like peanuts, then stirring the peanut butter is not all that bad. We enjoy either Adam’s Peanut Butter or Laura Scudder’s which feature what you buy peanut butter for: peanuts. Some things which taste good, are no longer on the menu. My husband had cancer, so I told him to learn to like what is natural.
The only two I've tried are the last two - the supposed best ones - Skippy and Jif. And between those two, I prefer SKIPPY because Jif is way too oily. And Skippy tastes GREAT.
