I am building this kit now. If I can get mine to fly half as good as yours I'd be thrilled. Thanks for shooting and sharing.

Thank you. The kit is great. I'm sure your Piper will fly well.

I built scads of peanut scale models in high school, but either couldn't get them to fly or I was too fumble fingered to get them together adequately. I'm trying again now and your plane reminds me that they CAN be made to fly. Free flight gives just a little peace in a crazy world. Beautiful craftsmanship, too.

As I watched your flights, I thought to myself that this was the potential of those planes I built as a pre-teen. Performance was modest back in the day and I had no idea that a small scale model could fly that well. Really eye opening! Well done.

What a great little flyer. I used to own a 1939 J3, it was a joy to fly as well. But not rubber powered Cheers -

Thanks. I was quite surprised when I saw the moon fly by (at 1:12) while evaluating the sequences.

How many loops of rubber. Kit comes with one Loop of 1/8” robber of about 11” length. Looks like you have more power, no?
@rubberfly
@rubberfly 4 года назад
With the original 1/8" loop, the Piper went like a rocket. In the video I fly with less power, just one loop with self-cut 2.2mm rubber that only weighs 1.7 grams.
@rubberfly
@rubberfly 4 года назад
@Jack Steward The loop is 14.37 Inches long. About 1000 Turns in flights, max. is 1700.

I just built one of these kits for my first ever rubber model. After some repairs mine weighs an embarrassing 16 grams with nose/prop. I have only ran it up to 350 winds so far, and have got about 10 seconds of flight. I struggled tremendously with powerstalling into death drops, until i started angling the prop to the 4 oclock position (if you are facing it). I know nothing about these planes but am very amazed at what they can do when trimmed properly. Any information is greatly appreciated.
@rubberfly

@@twintuned First, the model should be fly in without engine power. If the wings and stabilizer are not warped, the next critical factor is the direction in which the propeller is being pulled. Usually it takes a bit down and right thrust. A good book to get started with is 'Rubber powered Model Airplanes' by Don Ross.
@twintuned
@twintuned 3 года назад
@rubberfly when you say down and right, is that facing the plane, or as if you were sitting in the cockpit? I just purchased that book for $5 on Ebay. I found the left wingtip was warped up, and was unsettling the flight at low speeds. It flies dead straight with no power, before it would stall out left.
