This week, Albertus rounded up the crew and we headed to Ubin, intending to catch a good fish for lunch and a good fish for dinner. We got more than we bargained for. The Pearl Garoupa (Long Hu Ban), a hybrid species from Sabah, flown in to fish farms here, is a fast-growing cross between the Giant Garoupa (for fast growth) and the Tiger Garoupa (for taste and texture). Somehow, these fish have made their way into local waters and are starting to thrive. We helped to remove some of this invasive species, but there were just too many.
