My wife of 20 years passed away January 5th, 2024. She said she was feeling a little tired and was going to nap in her recliner a bit. She had her cat Mandu in her lap and her dog Tyson at her feet. She was 52. This song has been looping through my head for the last nine days. It's the part where he says he has to be good so he can see her again that gets me. She was such a gentle soul that there's no doubt where her soul went so I guess I have work to be good.

this song has been making me cry for almost 3 decades

I'm now 75 years-old and this song has always been special to me. My late wife (girlfriend at the time) and I were out in my new car not long after I returned from the Vietnam War. She was just about to turn 17, and I was 21. I lost control of the car on black ice, sliding sideways, and rolled over onto the roof. I got a broken nose in the accident and my soon to be wife, was hurt but not too badly, thank God. With my broken and bloody nose, I crawled into the upside down vehicle with the wheels still spinning around and the radio playing 'Hey There Lonely Girl' by Eddie Holman. I turned the engine off, and pulled her from the car. I didn't lose her that night, but she passed away at age 63, and this song always takes me back to that night on the highway in February, 1971.

I lost my wife of 22 years on 24th April 2024 from cancer. She was my best friend, soulmate and a beautiful mother to our 11 years old son. She was 46. My dad loved classic/alt rock and always had the radio station that played it going in the garage when I was a kid. Heard this song a lot, found it bittersweet even as a tiny child before I could really grasp the gravity of what was being sung. One day after my dad's passing (just before I turned 10) I was in the car with my mom and this song began to play. She burst into tears. Suddenly I understood. The depth of loss and beauty within the Cavaliers lyrics and way Pearl Jam covered it so beautifully. RIP dad. ♥

Core memory: Remember this song playing when I was like 10 in the back seat of the car, looking out the window, summertime breeze and warmth from the sun coming in, then looking at my little sister next to me singing it while she looked out her window looked at my parents holding hands up front while my dads driving. I quietly just burst into tears hearing the emotion of this song and everyone in the car singing it just as passionately 🤧 music really holds memories

For the past week I've been hearing this song come on when I got in my van. On Thursday, August 29th, 2024, the third day in a row that I heard this song, I just had this weird feeling. I was listening to it, and I thought, "This is one of my sister's favorite Pearl Jam songs." Then the breeze blew, I looked at the sky and saw dark, stormy clouds, and I thought to myself,"Man, she loves this type of weather. I wonder how she is doing." I wrote my sister a message on Facebook right after that at 3:22pm. By 8pm, that same day, I found out my sister had been murdered. I can't explain the feeling, but with this song coming on the radio so much before she passed, I just had a feeling I was going to lose my sister this weekend. I just never thought I would lose her to this. I never thought that some pos would rob her of her life. My sister had her issues with substance abuse, but that didn't make her a bad person. In fact, Barbi had such an amazing personality. She loved so fiercely and took no shit. RIP my beautiful big sister. I will forever think of you when this song plays.

This was my lullaby, I know, it’s tragic. My entire family knows this by heart just because of my grandma. She would sing this everyday until she passed away last year. Some of my favorite memories growing up was about Pearl Jam; and I’ll pass it on to my children

This version was released about 3 months after my best friend was killed in a car crash, and looking back that was when I had my first mental breakdown and as strange as it sounds I think this song helped pull me out of it, because I think it conveyed what I was thinking and processing with her death. It’s also a very cathartic song to sing at karaoke at times. It’s been over 23 years and I still miss you Nat.

I lost my girlfriend in 2019 to a criminal. This is one song that describes the feelings that went through my head an entire year after that. I've known this song for a while but it's not until recently that i realized how much it suits my personal loss, and I will now remember her everytime i listen to this amazing tune.

Also, Please let's take a moment for ones who have had to hold loved ones close knowing it's the last time they get too. That too is a pain like no other. Biggest hugs to you all. I wish you all well through what you are going through.

The last show I saw with my cousin was Pear Jam. He passed away in 2014, and my uncle always said this song reminded him of the son he lost. My uncle ended up passing in 2018 and now when I hear this song, I think about both of them. I hope more than anything that they reunited. I miss them both so much.

This always brings tears to my eyes.

I started listening to rock about a year or two ago and started really getting into Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Radiohead and other great bands from the 90s. One night I was talking to my aunt about music when I learned my uncle who I'm named after was a huge Pearl Jam fan. I found this particular song a month ago or so. My uncle died when he was 21 in a car crash and when I listen to this song I feel fully in touch with my namesake.

I had to put my beloved dog down this week he was only 4 years old and this song is all I think of. I can't wait to see my baby again ❤

I am from Lufkin,Tx . J. Frank Wilson recorded this back in time. He is from my hometown, this song was a little sacred to us all. Sadly he passed a few years ago but left us something to remember him by. Love this version by pearl jam as well.❤

As much as I have always loved this song, it is the ultimate sad song. My parents used to play The Cavaliers from time to time when I was a kid and it always made me sad, not in a bad way but the way I think it was intended to be, conveying the heartbreaking loss in the lyrics. This version does it justice and somehow has a bit more feeling in it. I lost my mom this year and whenever I want to think of her, I can play this song and remember her playing the oldie version as a kid.

I love the listless way the band plays a simple doo-wop melody behind Eddie, like even the musicians are too broken-hearted by this story to play with any more enthusiasm. It always gives me this mental image of a band playing in a mostly-empty bar as this emotionally broken man recalls this story that actually happened to him because it's his only form of catharsis.

Love this cover of a classic! I remember when it first came out many Summer's ago. Me & my bestie drove my Dad crazy playing it on repeat. Still sounds great.

This song brings back SO many memories! When I was a little girl, I remember waking up on Saturday and Sunday mornings hearing my dad playing the guitar and singing. This would be one of the many songs I remember waking up too. My daddy had been in bands and stuff and I know I heard him playing this song on a record but I must have assumed it was from one of his old bands playing and didnt realize it was Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers (more on that in a minute). Then when my little sister got a little bit older he would play the guitar and she would sing the words. To this day when i hear this song I can still hear his voice and my little sisters baby voice singing it. Well when I got older and started driving I will never forget the 1st time I heard Pearl Jam's "last Kiss" come on the radio! I almost wreaked my car because I was so excited! I rushed home to tell my daddy that Pearl Jam had remade HIS song and it's on the radio!! I had honestly thought he wrote that song and he let Pearl Jam remake it hahahaha. He laughed so hard and said don't you remember hearing me play that old record when you were little? I explained that I thought that was from when he was in a band or something. That's when I learned that was Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers hehe. Anyway, that's one memory I will always cherish for the rest of my life and this song always brings me right back to when I was a little girl and still had my daddy. He passed away suddenly on Christmas morning 2015. So I can't listen to this song with out being over come with emotions. What I would give to go back for just a moment and wake up to him singing this song (or any song)!!!!

My son loss his girlfriend both 17yrs 28 yrs ago in a car accident, she died instantly from a broken neck she was driving on a quite rd ,, my son a fracture pelvis and multiple injuries and still has back pain ptsd. He still can't work a full time .
