Good interview. Every record has its time and place relative to the era the record took place in. That's why it helps for historians, reporters, etc., to do their research and put context around these records, like this Channel has done. Telling the whole story and informing viewers with full information, so that the relevancy of the events do not get lost...or never told at all.

I find it interesting that now that Caitlin broke what was Kelsey Plums record, we have Lynette Woodard being brought up really holding the record, and now Pearl Moore. I am in no way disputing the actually statistics of these women, but this reminds me of the Negro Baseball league. They finally allowed the best of the best to move over to MLB, but didn't acknowledge the previous records they had set. I guess Sheryl Swoopes doesn't know about Pearl Moore Also when Caitlin scored 33 points in the last regular season game, Iowa's coach, Lis Bluder acknowledged Lynette Woodard and Pearl Moore with their point totals. She rip'd the NCAA for not acknowleding women prior to 82' when they took over the AIAW. I thought it was very classy of the Iowa coach to do that!!!!

Bluder and her assistant coach Jan Jensen are classy through and through. They love the game and the history of women’s college basketball, and if you watch interviews with Caitlin, you’ll see that they pass it on to their players.

Caitlin Clark broke the NCAA record. However, there were still women's college players before the NCAA was created? It was the AIAW. I don't understand why they didn't take those records and just move them over to the NCAA. Honestly it was just basically a name change from AIAW to NCAA. Pearl Moore hold the record for most points score amongs women college basketball players. No hate for Caitlin, nothing but love for her but with such a spotlight being put on Women's basketball right now, I think it is great that Pearl Moore and Lynette Woodard's names are coming to the forefront as they should have already been.

It wasn't just a "name change" --it was one business organization competing with, and taking over, another. They didn't recognize previous statistics for their own benefit--right or wrong. So, if you define your terms, like "NCCA, D1, Women's Basketball" that's one thing. "AIAW" is another. Kind of a moot point now for Lynette Woodard...For Moore, that would seem similar to comparing men's play to women's--don't know too much about it but Moore's school is a D2 school today and I think the conferences she played in at the time were equivalent to D2 or D3 colleges. So, would you compare high school stats to college stats, or Varsity stats to JV stats, for an "all time scoring record. You could, but it would be meaningless.

Caitlin Clark and her Coach Lisa Bluder have brought Woodard and Moore to the news to honor these women. Caitlin has now broke both Plums points record with NCAA and Caitlin broke Woodards record with the AIAW. Those leagues are the only Division I large school leagues. Pearl Moore was the high scorer for small colleges which would be like Division II or III or NAIA schools of today. So the push should be to combine the records of Women's NCAA and AIAW together... and then the schools the size of Pearl Moore's together. Because of Caitlin Clark drawing attention and giving honor to these women it is looking like this will come true... The Caitlin Clark Effect is fill arenas all across the United States and has been all positive to get people watching Womens Basketball. Love it!

Great interview. Without the attention to CC's extraordinary journey over the last 3 years, we would not know about Kelsey, Lynette, and now, Pearl. We are all the richer for these names being brought to our social consciousness. Women's track & field is also elevating the validity and credibility of women's athletics. Something that I truly appreciate about CC's interviews, she typically refers to the women who established the foundation for what is being experienced today. Thank you, for this interview and your historical perspective.

Records from tiny schools don’t count like Division I. Period. They don’t in football or any other sport. Ichiro had a lot of hits in Japan - not counted in MLB. Lynette Woodard is one thing, but Pearl starting out in Junior College, then playing at a small school - not the same thing. Caitlin or Lynette would have torched that “competition.”
@Joe-ny2up

Exactly. Yes, 177 of Pearl's 4,061 points were JuCo and at the very least those absolutely shouldn't count. And, if Clark makes the Sweet 16 I expect she will inch by 3,884 points, and be the unquestionable scoring champ. Oh, I can hear it now...Pearl didn't have a 3 pt line. Enough of that. Even if they had one they'd likely have avoided it, or shot far worse. The 81/82 champion Lakers were 13 of 94 as an entire team from 3!!! Crazy. We love you Pearl, but it's apples and oranges. If it were legit, Lynnette Woodard would have deflected all the attention by this point. If/when Juju breaks Clark's record, I will applaud her without all these "ifs" and "buts".

Yes lady Pearl Moore who played basketball in college Anne Francis Marion college which is now known as Francis Marion University who played from 1975 through 1979 and during those four years she put up 4,061 points yes she played out of a small college but division 1 large colleges and beat him plus she's got two titles in her four-year career championship titles and yet Paramore on stands at 5.5 1/2 tall and she didn't have anybody I think over 5 ft 8 5'9 at Max didn't have anybody at 6 feet tall and yet her first three years she averaged 30 points per game her fourth year memory serves me right from this interview her coach said her fourth year she put up every game no less than 35 points her total rebounds was 1,279 rebounds I would have to look up the rest for a stats but I'd say pretty damn good if she ended up a total of 4,061 points in her 4 year career without the three-point line I do know that Pearl Moore said she had that three-point line she would put up at least another thousand points just in three points imagine that that's how truly good she really was in her college career I do remember watching her guess who played the same time as Larry Bird and magic Johnson did that same years along with Laurette Woodward

Can any one tell where to find Pearl Moores college career stats? All I find is the number 4061. Others talk about 177 junoir college points. The fact year by year stats can't be looked at, and this junoir college number isn't defined kind of discredits this small school / junoir college total.

Caitlin Clark fan and Iowa alum here (I also grew up in Iowa City, so a Hawkeye through and through 😆). So happy that Caitlin has raised awareness of Pearl Moore, Lynette Woodard and so many other great women’s basketball players! I think Caitlin’s record is legit after passing Woodard for D1 schools. Moore is the greatest college scorer ever, and her school is D2 now, so it’s a bit different, but I definitely think the NCAA needs to acknowledge the AIAW records. Hopefully they will do so sometime soon, as I think it’s just business bitterness that keeps them from doing it.

@ben-schulman
@ben-schulman 3 месяца назад
Yeah, the Woodard comparison is fair, but the Moore comparison is not meaningful. If you are a great player playing against substandard competition in D2 or D3, then you're greatness is only a manifestation of the substandard competition--a really great player can only be defined by great competition. (A scoring record against inadequate competition is not a record--it's just a lot of points made possible by weak competition). That's why CC is going pro and most idiots that thought she should at Iowa "for the money" don't understand what a real competitor truly is...

Caitlin is quiet, she doesn't' do any self promotion and isn't all over social media posting(as far as I know). And I actually felt sorry for Swoopes because as great as she was, she actually showed the world how uninformed and how little she even follows her own sport. That was just sad. In conclusion, depending on when, where and what level you played, your records don't cross over when a bigger entity comes in and takes over.

The fact is, Pearl Moore is in the Naismith Hall of Fame and that was not because of Caitlin Clark. Moore, and others, paved the way for Clark, therefore she should be thankful for Moore and others that came before her. Too many people are in their feelings thinking this is about knocking Clark down but it's not so IMO.
