I wanted to share my thoughts on this piece of gear after using it for a few years on different kits.

I had a Pearl RH-800 remote hat in the 80s. It was amazing.

That drop clutch is the best I have ever tried. Love the quick release. I tried DW (2 way) Gibraltar, Tama, and another. I love the way you can tap it from the SIDE, and it doesn't take a hard hit either. The ones you hit from above don't always change and often I would also bounce off and hit the hats unintentionally. I wish it didn't stick up so far but only because of where my hats are. Most people this would not matter. The RH20250 itself: NO LAG IMHO either! I went from a DW (5000 series) with that big box on it. Those had lag! Maybe it was that mine had an 8' cable, or maybe because I bought them used, well played. So maybe the cable just needed to be replaced. Either way, the Pearl was so much better. As I've mentioned, the reason I wanted the shaft driven one I made wasn't due to any lag at all. However it takes more strength to move them than a regular stand just due to the inherent friction of the cable I guess. So due to my medical issues, I can't play it fast for any length of time. Like playing 1/8's for a whole song. That being said, I think for just normal occasional openings, I play the RH2050 better due to the slightly heavier feel. I can sense the pedal better. I believe most healthy and experienced drummers would not have the problem I do. I am considering putting up the RH how you have yours for a second set of hats. I love having two different sets. Usually a 13, and a 14. My next set is definitely going to be 15's though. Remote hats changed learning the drums for me completely. It was a total game changer that took me down a rabbit hole of different kit configurations, all designed to be easier to get around. Once I clear some space and have some time I am going to try a setup like yours with the offset bass drum. Thanks for doing this one.

I've had mine RH-2050 for bout 4 years till the cable broke...believe from cable twisting (cable broke in base section, piston) $142.95 (Pearl's replacement cable) later...still love it.

I've had my Yamaha remote hats for almost 20 years and still working like a champ. I do have the Griffin one too that's been issue free for over 4 years now, and It's been on many gigs not just set up on a studio kit. I would buy another Griffin any day before paying the premium just for the name on it.

Good to know about the Griffin model! What type of case do you transport it in?

Excellent review! I've been thinking about moving my hi-hat. My dang double kick pedal has always been an issue.

on way! I, too wanted to have my toms lower than the bass drum would allow. So I, I have put my bass drum off to the left and use a left-handed double bass drum pedal to play the kit right-handed. I have also racked my toms, and cymbals to reduce the ironmongery. I have recently been thinking of going remote with my hats, so thanks for the review video! you know what they say about great minds 😉

I have an older (circa 1994) DW 5000 series. I bought it used. It feels slightly sluggish, like there's friction inside the cable sheath, and even at the loosest spring tension, it feels a little heavy. Newer stands aren't as bad as mine, but even the best I've tried don't feel as light and smooth as a normal stand. I had a 1st gen DW drop clutch for my main hi-hat stand ages ago, but I stopped using it. There was a small gap between the two pieces, and it made it feel like when you have the top cymbal too loose in the clutch, with that sort of "click" when played with the foot. A small washer or rubber band (the kind used for braces) takes care of that issue, but I just didn't want to bother, I don't play double bass enough to make it worth dealing with. I have 3 hats in my set-up anyway, lol.

Did buy it newly, seemed more reactive when i set the spring looser. Still have to adjust it and get to know it more. It‘s not a reactive as a regular pedal for me, it still seems good, but doesn‘t feel completely the same as a regular hihat stand yet, but worth the tradeoff for more ergonomic playing. I’m not sure if I would call it lag. Will keep experimenting. Thank you for sharing your experiences. Have you ever tried the tama one? I‘m also curious about that one.

I'm having lag with between the clutch and the drop. Not the cable. I had to install a washer between the two. other than that, it one of my favorite pieces on my kit

I didn't realize the hats you play are the Rezos. Upside down? I have a set of them. Hardly ever see them. I guess I never noticed the scallops on yours.
@VegasAlien1
@VegasAlien1 Год назад
The Rezos are right side up. I am in the process of trying to trade them for a set of non-Rezo A Customs with a guy. The standard A Customs have more of a "shimmer" to them that I miss, but I have enjoyed the Rezos for a long time.

@@VegasAlien1 wasn't sure if the cutouts went on top or bottom. My psuedo-dementia again lol.
@VegasAlien1

That would chew up sticks on top in no time. They are the more dangerous solution to preventing cymbal lock. They are really sharp and can hurt.
@Spagz
@Spagz Год назад
@@VegasAlien1 yeah that makes sense. I have a set of Saluda fusion hats with the 2 holes in the bottom bell. Main cymbals have small dimples (slightly) similar to sound edge but not nearly as much. I am thinking of drilling them myself.

Can you replace the cable for a shorter length?
@VegasAlien1
@VegasAlien1 8 месяцев назад
I have only seen the option of an 8' cable. That's the only length replacement cable for this I can find, too.
@joshm1636
@joshm1636 7 месяцев назад
The Pearl model doesn't have different lengths but the Tama version comes with a 7.5' cable and a 3.9' cable is also available. The 3.9' is probably a good option for slightly adjusting the hats and pedal into a more ergonomic position for two kick drum kits. Many drummers with those setups seem to have their standard hihat stand way off to the side so the ergonomics are horrible. Unfortunately the Tama one doesn't have the drop clutch and comes with an (imho) terrible clamp. They're way more expensive too from what I've seen.
@krusher74

if one cable end is removable you could shorten it to what ever length required. I don't know if it is?

Any case or bag available for this pedal?
@VegasAlien1
@VegasAlien1 Месяц назад
Hey Frank. I haven't been able to find one specifically for it, but found a road case locally that is 31 x 20 x 8" that fits it well. I glued some carpet padding inside instead of the correct foam. I don't have to coil the too tightly inside, can leave the footboard assembled and can also carry my drum throne and stick bag in comfortably. There are likely other types of cases for other uses that would be lighter and fit it better.
