Initially introduced in 1996, Pearl's SensiTone snare drum line-up has long been a mainstay for performance-driven professional drummers. Three metal shell types have remained constant through changing styles and tastes for their necessary, vital tones: Steel, Aluminum, and Brass.
Pearl celebrates their unmistakable sound with six new SensiTone Heritage Alloy snare drum models. Each one recalls legendary, chart-topping sonic punch with an undeniably modern sensibility.
SensiTone Heritage Alloy Steel models feature a 1mm beaded chrome shell with the right gig-ready touches, making them a utility standard for the power drummer.

Happy Birthday Pearl . I have one of your late 60's steel shell snare drums . The sound i get from her is dry sort of like the aluminium shell .

Pearl Sensitone + President Deluxe 20-12-14 is, when buying new, the ultimate working drummer's combo IMHO. Vintage look and sound is trendy, and have always been preferred in studios the world around. You lug one less cymbal stand with them and no moongel/tape BS. The stock heads are good enough on the President to not need a change. The drums are dependable, super-pro, the quality of the hardware on chrome is top notch - all without spending an arm and a leg, and the value of those 75th anniversay kits will raise in the next 5 years for sure...! Normally, I never buy new. But, this changes my mind!

Make a 13x5.5 steel in either Sensitone or Modern Utility line. Or the same 13" wood Midtown snare with a steel shell?

The 14x5 aluminum reminds me of my Ludwig Supraphonic!! Any of these snares would work great with a good Pearl kit, I'm considering a Session Studio Select as a possibility in the future and these snares all seem like they would fit the sound I'd be looking for to complement the Session kit, I think the 14x5 steel sounds the best for my preferences here..
